FUNimation didn't do anything to the openings and endings: that's a general Japanese show thing, thanks to how the music industry works over there (complicated subject), so that's how they always are.

And the Immortal Soldiers are saying it hurts because there's a human soul forced into an unliving body against it's will: they're basically shoving a persons personality into a living weapon painfully to animate it.

@09Voltron Its like Nina, she was turned into a chimera unproperly. Her soul wasn't bound fully. This is just a guess, but the multiple soul test thingy wasn't complete, so they are hurting. All the homunculus and Al's soul are bound properly, so they aren't hurting. That may be why they keep on saying that.
