But he has an eidetic memory, and the word eidetic means 'to be able to recall or reproduce things previously seen with accuracy, clarity, and vividness.' So I guess he couldn't remember her name because it was told to him, whereas he probably could have remembered it if he had seen it down on a file with her picture or something.

Just because you have an eidetic memory doesn't mean you remember absolutely everything in the world. It means you can remember absolutely everything about certain things. I, for one, have an eidetic memory, but am terrible with names because I am not interested in learning them.

Usually remembering what you see/read and not what you hear(with the exeption of quick thinking or in panic) is also part of an Eidetic Memory.
