would have loved to see mike mangini playing with them for longer, you can sure tell this is him on this song, i think he only played on 2 songs on this album, love his style
Shame they weren't Hip for a lot longer. This whole album had a sad tone to it. With tracks like Hip Today, Cynical, No Respect & Leave me alone it was as if they were writing about their own dimise. Not sure if other people feel this. I saw them on this tour and they were amazing but Nuno was having technical problems and seemed a bit distant. Such a shame they didn't get the credit they deserved.
@rmtdrums um Waiting for the punchline? it was very evident they weren't happy about the shitty grunge music killing the airwaves. I respected them for taking a break and not trying to sound like something other then extreme to survive like many others did. and now there back and the new stuff rocks!
For the longest time I was turned off from this band by More than Words cause I thought that they were only going to be doing soft shit without even giving the band a chance at all. Then I listened to their first album and had my mind explode. And their second album is nothing but pure shred, Nuno's guitar playing lives up to the bands name, they really are a heavy band.
I am a huge Nuno fan, not an Extreme fan but I rather admire the work Nuno did with Extreme. I didn't notice before he is not using his regular guitar in this video (N4), this one is more similar to the actual N6 with the HSS configuration instead of the double Humbucker. This is surely their greatest song in my opinion
one of the most underrated bands ever.Nuno is just a fuckin ace and Gary as vocalist (probably not as charismatic) was 5 times better than David Lee Roth.
@curtisgtrdaddy what about learning your english right ?! Underrated is actually a compliment, like the expression Underdog, means that people give them LESS (under) credit than they're worth (rate). You could be angry if it was said they are OverRated (More credit than they're worth).
English is my 2nd language so could someone please tell me what "hip today" stands for? I am guessing is something like "live the present, have fun today for you never know what tomorrow will bring", am I right?? thanks.
Darkdread 12. - Hip Today is a reference to the cultural and stylistic now. What's seen as popular or fashionable at the moment. So really what the song is about is a kind of tongue and cheek take on folk who preoccupy themselves with the 'latest' thing. You'll hear the lines before the chorus "You'll be gone tomorrow" Which just means, here today gone tomorrow. All image no substance.
When Waiting for the Punchline was released as Extreme fan I felt myself a little disappointed. After so many year I consider this as another masterpiece but of another band. The band plenty of joy spreading happiness in each song of other Albums was died for a more innermost and sofisticated one, with a sound and lyrics a bit darker.
Imagine if........ A Hip Today, King Of the Ladies, LP! Preoccupied , by if I knew back then what I know right now, you know I'll be the king of the ladies
yes ..mangini on drums..nice guy too..met him in nyc!! incredible drummer..but he only played on a few tracks on the album, but toured with them after paul geary left !!check mangini's drum solo from that tour.. insane!!!
@maturanesa I guess you've never heard of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, and a number of other great guitarist. Those guys names put that guy to shame. Just their names!
@jay5150ist That's the problem with people with "people like me"? Cuz you totally know each and every one of us and can make that judgement automatically. yes. I just expressed my opinion, I don't even care if you have one, just don't leave useless comments and tag me in them. "Wake up" this fucking kid.
nuno came out 1st i think..i love this line-up...mike mangini aka THE ULTIMATE WARRIOR on drums!hahaha.love em!cant wait for the new album here in the philippines!!
A great guitar solo, A nice eclectic fusion of jazz, blues chords and shredding. Nuno is a great player with tremendous adaptation and coagulative style
amazing rock band!!!! shame they didnt achieve the success they earned... this formation with mike mangini on the drums has given new horizons to their music!! boring chorus though... Hail NUNO!!!! the world is in need of guitar heroes!!!
I remember then saying that on this album they wanted to sound raw, thats why sometimes the vocals dont have that depth like they had on previous albums
i know! if you do an image search on him on google one of the first pics that comes up is of him with some dude and hes got bleach (i think) blond hair, and he looks all washed out and sick or something. he should grow his hair back!
Too bad Nuno's such a prick now? Whaddya mean NOW? Anyways the MF can sure play (Amongst the perceived "shredders", Nuno's rhythm playing was FAR SUPERIOR). Also, I didn't see if anyone had mentioned that by this point, Paul had quit, and this is Mike Mangini (later of Steve Vai fame) on drums. Mike's speed and technique are RIDICULOUS! Peace!

...and gone they went...they werent exactly my favorite band but they sure played nice, especially of course the great Nuno, everything he does on the guitar is astonishing!
Ace song. Not my favey album of theirs songwise, but the sound and the performances feckin rock! Garys voice sounds PHAT on that track. They do still paly together now and again. I think they'll do another album sometime in the future. I really hope so anyway. Nuno's other band is cool n that but I think Extreme need to do another album. Even if it's jsut for closure for the fans.
I saw this video as it was being made on December 15, 2004 (at least the performance scenes, basically 90% of the video), but I never got to see the video itself till now! Very cool the way it looks, especially when coupled with my memory of it. The diorama-like box was really shiny metallic inside, interesting camera effect they got from it. Lucky me that the 3rd gay date I ever had stood me up (we were supposed to meet in a restaurant nearby), otherwise I never would have been there!

Gary Sharone definetly gells better with Extreme than he did with Van Halen. Gary has a funky singing style.

This song rocks! One of my favorites of all the time. One more album Extreme, come on, just one more.

They're like a more technically gifted version of RHCP.

that guitar tone proves that Nuno is an exceptionally talented player...to play a solo like that with minimal overdrive, reverb etc. Pure tone!

Lucky me that the 3rd gay date I ever had stood me up (we were supposed to meet in a restaurant nearby), otherwise I never would have been there!

this album is from the past millenium. 1995, I guess. You were never there, man.

Whoops, I meant 1994. I was there, just made a typo. Nothing to get all bothered about, man. =]
