You need a certain amount of Energy to do the electricity trick, as it drains yours aswell. If he would've grabbed you and you managed to get it, then savestated in the process, it could've ended badly. Make sure to do the conventional way of saving sometimes, just incase, or backup savestates. Congrats on your victory.

I think expecting to beat this boss on the first go is a little bit too much. I mean if you restarted with all your health and super missles knowing what he's going to do the next time you fight him, he's obviously going to be a lot easier than trying to fight him with <99 energy and avoiding all/most of the attacks and having to shoot for more ammo. In other words, bosses should be strong enough that you die the first time but learn how to beat them - so that the next time you fight you beat it
This is really a valuable thing for Metroid bosses - it's a lot easier to start the fight over with full resources and develop your plan over multiple fights like that. The exception is the occasional case where a boss has multiple phases and the first phase is harder than a later phase, but I don't think any Super Metroid bosses are really like that.

The most painful mistake to watch here was that you were frequently at the same side where he would appear and spout the gray blobs. If even one of the blobs touches you, he tries to grab you and heals while he's dragging you around. Stay on the opposite side, shoot the blobs with the beam and then switch to super missiles when his belly is exposed.
the very last two seconds are important, shows you actually killed him! Nice work, and yeah, I'd hate him too if you couldn't do the Grappling Beam into electricity trick.

In the original you could fry him via the side beams. When he grabbed you and becomes overly affectionate, keep shooting your beam out. I would get the top left one. Watching him fry was well worth it.
This game scares me a lot, but thanks to you, you made a scary game very funny to watch. Samus must be like, ugh, dead again and again...when will my suffering end?
It's a shame, really raocow, because you were SO close to the solution. All you had to do to make this work at the first half of the video was to not mash the d-pad like crazy when he grabs you.
At least it's good to know you're not an easy target for rape.
