  • the friends topic is what bugs me the most. i have around 200 "friends" on facebook. i hang out in real life with maybe 5 of them. and when i delete people i dont know, i get messages saying "we're friends man, we dont have to hang out and talk to be friends, but we are." in what universe does that make sense? Friends are people you interact with and have real relationships with, not people who click like on your page.

  • Agreed

  • i think that people should come visit and see how im doing in person if they realy like me . and are concerned about me to make a real connection

  • I have a facebook only for vid chatting with only my friends and I only like 2 tims a week because I forget

  • I disagree, my fiancee was met on an MSN chat by accident, and we've met (obviously). So thanks to MSN chat, I physically have contact with her, and its opened up another large social network of real life people.

  • I agree 100% with this video!

  • Fuck my boss i dont give a shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I am in the 7th grade. Everybody in my class has a facebook except me. It's the main subject of daily talk at school. Everyone is addicted. As people say focus your life directly to Jesus Christ and don't worship your possessions or addictions. Facebook is the 2010+ God for these people! I have witnessed my two neighbors who are facebook addicts have their marriages runied. All they ever did was post on their facebook. Divorced! Divorced! Facebook is evil. Mark Zuckerberg is evil!!!!!

  • exactly why i dont use facebook and never will!

  • Is you're accent Irish? :O

  • i dont have any friends but i have 512 on facebook

  • I agree with my comment down below, (nice one Natalie! XD) I'm a high schooler as well and my communication skills in real life is getting worse because I'm too shy and stuff like that

  • Hmm definitely agree with all you've said. I'm a high schooler and all my classmates update their Facebook statuses almost once very hour, instead of using the pone or chat face to face, they chat through Facebook. Well the thing is If you keep using the keyboard to communicate with each other, your real life communication skills will definitely worsen

  • U are soooooooooo right...

Perhaps social media or the internet in general is FAR MORE addictive than smoking or using hard drugs....

But (whahahah) ON THE INTERNET u almost can't find any help, information or usefull methods to prevent a addiction to social networking or te digital world. I guess we MUST warn young adults of the dangers of social networking & express your opinion on the internet. Especially law enforcement is watching us if we behave ourselfs right. So go OFFLINE 4 a real life.

  • i disagree. facebook can be gr8t if u don't overuse it. besides, ur all on the internet, basically the same thing, wasting ur time. if u hate stupid comments, etc., why don't you stop posting them? But BTW thnx for posting this video, really helped.

  • i agree with "the important thing is body language"

  • Blame Mark Zugerberk :D lol

  • you think like me! I agree (i deactivated it). i have a story to tell: so, some girls and boys had invited of to come and play on school, when i came there: everybody sat on the grass with their mobile on Facebook! totally quite! they had invited Me to come for to play, and they just sat there updating Facebook and so on. and since Facebook came out, my friends gave become more end more "not talking face to face"!

  • No more facebook 4 me...Deactivated last month

  • AWESOME VIDEO!!!!

  • got rid of mine too! relatives didn't talk and important issues were ignored

got to be where i was caught up with my how i valued myself with how many "likes" i got or comments I feel Freeeeeee now (but u have to delete ALL pics and posts to really be gone)

  • I'm 10 and I have Facebook...^_^ so does everyone in my class

  • so true people abuse social networking sites i think it should only be use for business company's not the rest of the world

  • I think Google+ has taken some very good steps on the privacy front

  • I don't consider myself a junkie. I too prefer human to Human interaction and only use social networks when it's essential to communicate with someone and talking in person isn't s viable option. However I do use twitter for....wait for it... News. If you follow the right people, it can actually be a nice tool.

  • Lol hmm should i "friend" request you or just "colleague" request you... next day "wtf bill why did u just colleague request me! fuck you, your not coming to my cubical party" XD

  • Yeah, i have more than 500 friends nd i probably oly know 300 so i need to sit down some day nd if i dont know who the prson is as soon as i see their name or don't reli care what they're up to, they'll be deleted. I think other people sould do the same...

  • YES!

Screw facebook! I got rid of mine. No end of problems for me.

I still have Twitter which is better for me personally.

  • I hate Facebook, but is a most apparently, as soon as you start on college lol. Or is it just proving stupidity among college students?:P

  • Totally agree

  • I know 100% of my 49 friends and I see them all almost every day.

  • I agree it can be very dangerous but i think used right it can be a great way to express yourself

  • Thats the reason I only use Facebook for work.

  • is TEXTing the same?

  • @Imappleboy no

  • Never used it, never will.

  • My friend got suspended from school because of a status update he made :)

  • Social Networking is stupid.

  • i feel that this was a totally necessary video that absolutely needed to made thank you for putting the obvious (no sarcasm meant) into the faces of the people who are too absorbed in that, for lack of a better word, trash that they can't seem to let go of hopefully this opens some minds and starts a trend of some sort

  • nice vid man

  • well said hate facebook and twitter

  • I want to make an account and call it Nobody, so when I like something, it will read: "Nobody likes this"

  • I completely agree with you! Facebook born with a good soul, but with time it is changing in another thing that can be a bad, dangerous thing! Beware!

  • yeah i see wot u mean i cant stand it when people abuse social networking and u missed out never post that ure going on vacation beacuse as u said people that may not know you will know that ure house is empty so a possible break in. my parents were watching everything i did on facebook so i had to make a new account jus for my M8s. but i do disagree that u said putting pics of ure pets is stupid because i love my bulldogs more than my next breath but u are one of the few people that makes sense

  • sad but true...i never use any social network website..its so anoyying

  • Sad!

  • I think that McDonalds and facebook and all that stuff are a really good idea if you don't overuse it! Who doesn't like a Hamburger once in a while or check what his friends are doing?

  • I'm totally of your opinion!!!

  • I never use Facebook. I knew it is not safe.

  • facebook ruins relationships

  • I agree 100%, Dave. I don't waste anytime on them. "Friends", lol! What a joke. Get outside and meet people, or call your real friends on the phone. I don't give a shit what you had for dinner!

    Thumbs Up, Dave!

    

  • Well said Dave so true what U said!!!

  • Social Networking is very useful, but yes, it is dangerous when not used well.

  • A sobering video from someone who specialises in technology. I agree with a lot of what you say. I use facebook to keep in touch and organise to meet up with people. So it's more of an accessory to socialising, like a mobile phone, if you understand me.

  • what a narrow minded! what wrong with this world, dont you knoe you csn change you privacy setting? Too much critical thinking, overload buwahaha

  • @amirkeyrain you're correct, just change ur settings

  • yep, hes been bumped.. haha jk. seriously ive been clean for over a year now. feels good without right after graduation

  • Haha all my friends on facebook are real friends =D

  • I will never use facebook...Never!

  • FACETIME

  • People he's just keeping you aware...that's all!

    So act accordingly.

  • Here...here, well said!!!

  • Just because you have no friends to connect with dosent mean that you have to bag on Facebook

  • @A7XISDASHITBITCH Settle down. You seem to be a bit of a fan boy, No offence intended. He is just expressing his views. I agree that facebook is taking over socialising, not really a fault on the part of facebook, more on the part of the people who use it. I think facebook is great as an accessory to socialising, as long as it's used in moderation :)

  • I think you read my mind. Facebook is a danger and a waste of productive time.

  • You're wrong once again. Facebook isn't about replacing human interaction, it's about improving life and connecting you with your friends. Facebook and Twitter are changing the world for the better. You seem a bit jealous to be honest. Also the "arab spring" is happening because of social networks.

  • AMEN!

  • totally agree dave! good video content

  • I agree I have friends that spend 3 hours on facebook

  • Millions of people are leaving Facebook... most of them young people in the western world... is not as cool when your grand parents is there, is it?

  • I don't agree, I think FaceBook is a very handy thing. For example, when you need something (like a calculator). The only thing you have to do is just type in your status: "does anyone have a calculator for me" and a few minutes later you've got response. It's not only handy for that but also for other things ilk arranging parties or to make a group with your class to ask questions about the lectures. I'm really using Facebook a lot. But I do think that some people are abusing it...

  • I understand where you're coming from Dave, and I agree that some people take it to ridiculous extremes! I myself, however, tend to use facebook to sort-of co-ordinate my actual social life. For example I have some private groups with friends so we can organise things, and of all the features of Facebook I probably use the messages the most, in the same way anyone else would use SMS (I find it far easier, not to mention cheaper!). Also, it's good for long-distance reminiscing :P

  • Comment removed

  • I fully and completely agree!

  • I often thought:

Isn't it a bit ironic that FaceBook connects us to more people than ever, but also causes us to spend less time with those people.

  • Great vid! totally agree with your point of view.

  • Great video Dave! What are the stats on Computing Forever going like? I'm on there all the time!

  • I agree 100% I deleted my facebook the other week. It does nothing but keep friends from being real friends. Unless you see these people in real life often they are NOT your friends! And you are right, people use twitter and FB just to be anoying morons posting the stupidest shit no one wants to know. I don't care what you did this moroning I don't care what you "liked"! How about come over and hang out and TELL me about your day!

  • thumbs up if you embedded this in facebook

  • And with facebook, I only post photography pictures and now I use it to talk to my brother who has moved to Australia and I only accept people I've met in person, like I add people I've met at concerts and have spent more than 5 mins with. I don't post status updates, and when I do it's something I feel I use share with my friends. Facebook, is just a competition and is pointless as I said.

  • I understand how you're saying we're not being social. My primary use for twitter is so I can talk with my bestfriend, I live in Donegal & she lives in Dublin so it's very hard to see each other face to faceon a regular basis so we used twitter to talk & well we met over twitter but only after a few months of tweeting we met in Person. But twitter is the only free way we can talk went I can't get down to Dublin, so that my main reason for that, facebook is just a pointless site in my opinion.

  • what's the difference between talking on Facebook and talking in real life? you're still just two people, communicating, just because its over the internet doesn't change that. I'd like to see why you think communication degrades because it is on the internet...

  • wel he is right... good vid i think i learned a few things

  • I went through all of my friends on ze facebook about 8-10 months ago and purged over 100 people. Since then, I adopted the philosophy of only accepting them if a) I have actually had 3 or more meaningful conversations with them in person and/or b) I actually want to stay in contact with them. I have denied well over 250 people since then. I just went back after watching this and did not want to purge anyone from the list. Looks like my strategy is working so far!

  • @textilemill I've always had that policy. It is a lot nicer than the alternative.

  • I really do agree with everything you say, but I do still like facebook. You don't mention the fact that it's a good medium to get in touch with people, and to meet up with old friends. Just because there are that many valid bad points about facebook, doesn't mean there aren't good things about it.

  • wow, this came out just after I deleted all but 13 friends on facebook :/

  • Loved this vid Dave totally agree with you 100% I've been feeling the same you do about this. I'd love to see more vids like this. Very good job

  • yeah i hope sum 1 can help me but i too cant remember what i did b4 facebook

  • dislike

  • Great vid!

  • i deactivated my facebook about a week ago, and i feel like i have more to do. i feel free !

i was a hard facebook user, id wakeup grab my iphone go on facebook, during school faceboook, on the waay home facebook and you will figure out the rest. and yeah i had about 500 friends on facebook but my REAL friends will only be about 40 of them.

  • My Social Network stats:

Bebo - one year (age 13?)

    Myspace - 2 days

    Twitter - 2 minutes

Facebook - Never, and never will.

It all seems very boring and I couldn't be bothered with it. Facebook will probably be completely forgotten about in the next year or two. Something new always comes along.

  • Another awesome video Dave, your so right, I think social networking is an amazing thing, but there needs to be a balance so you don't lose touch with the real world and ..... * can't complete comment, a facebook notification just came through, my second cousin best friends mom twice removed wants to be friends, WTF?* lmao :)

  • You can't stop the change Dave :( All this stuff was like this even before Facebook like in the days of Myspace.

  • I don't even talk to real people on facebook, I talk to Artivicial Inteligence like computers on those websites :)

  • Hmm. My venetian binds revolve vertically

  • Comment removed

  • I recently broke-up with a girl, and so I hid my relationship status before I changed it so no-one actually saw the change.

I'm with another girl now, and we will get round to putting ourselves as "in a relationship with" each-other, but I won't un-hide my relationship status until after we've done so, so that the change won't be too conspicuous again...

  • dude awesome vid, actually opened my eyes from my ignorance

  • if it bothers you so much, don't use it or block them. It's not hard.

  • Busy surfing with geese! brb

  • your pretty much right

  • I hate Facebook. First they didn't respect my privacy and now I'm everywhere in Google Search results. I deleted my account, but now I want to have a account again, cause I'm graduating and I wanna stay in touch with my schoolmates (yeah yeah, that's not socialising I know :p) But for some reason, I can't make a new account because "the automated system will not approve my name" :-/

  • @iStarbox93 Your account is never deleted on Facebook. It is only deactivated. Trying to log in with that account will guide you through a process of restoration. That is why your name isnt approved.

  • @ipodnerd07 Well I just tried, but now it says "The username you entered does not belong to any account." :s

  • @iStarbox93 Yikes.....Maybe they now fully delete them, or there might gave been a checkbox to just disble your account that you missed. Only reason im saying they dont delete em is that when i deleted my old account and my mother deleted hers, it said we can alwasy come back, so i typed in my old account and it guided me thru the restoration process. but that was then, guess its changed now....facebook is gay like that :/

  • @iStarbox93 lol login with ur old username and password and u'll be suprised how sneaky facebook is. I hope this helps you. :)

  • @iStarbox93 If your "friends" can't stay in contact in the outside world, then they are not friends. Friends use email or chat or text or even ...wait for it... telephone. I don't give a shit about Facebook friends, they don't give a shit about me either, so fuck it.

  • Good speech. I actually agree.

  • The philosophy and idea behind social network is perfect, and I like it. But in practice.... well....

  • You are Irish so that's probably why you don't have Facebook, you would just upload video of you drunk kissing a lepracorn

  • And also stop bloody zooming the camera in and out. It looks bloody ridiculous. You obviously have no friends

  • With you all the time

  • Is there something wrong with this guy? It's great for communicating with friends and family that live in different states, or are not wi

  • I completely agree with you Dave.

  • The only reason I made a Facebook account is because of people asking and asking, "are you on Facebook" so now I've added my FRIENDS, not 900 other bastards I've never spoken to before. I only ever use it convey a message or two if the person needs to know (like a link or place and time) or it's just a joke or something of that nature, I never use it to wish happy birthday, as it takes away the value, however if I'm not going to see that person soon then obviously I'll say it but make comment o

  • I have solved this issue Dave. I have a social facebook and a work facebook.

  • I couldn't agree more. originally it was a great idea and i saw it as a friends re-united type site for old school colleagues, but like you said, i am not interested in what pizzza they are having and soon realised my so called friends of long ago had nothing in common anymore other than we knew each other's names

  • I'm always gonna know Dave as the guy who predicted the over throw or iPhone a year Before it happened. Even wen know one thought it was possible

  • Silence! Not another word from you! Facebook is my life!

  • It is a danger because of two things:

1 - That the users behind the accounts of the social networks don't really know what they're getting themselves into when they start it, they just want attention and to be with others (it's the same principal with being famous or the popular kid at school).

2 - What you said, that they give out so much personal information of themselves, but don't care to censor it to the rest of the strangers in the network.

Wonderful for those with common sense.

  • but without social networks like you said fb or twitter your vids wouldn't be a hit like they are and youtube is the same. I see you in your room making ur vids everyday I mean I like your vids but your contradicting yourself as well.

  • 7 people just realised they were social retards

  • Whats the first thing I did after watching this vid?

    Posted it (on FB)

    Tweeted it (on Twitter), and

    Bloged it (on Tumbler)

  • well done sir.

  • how is it dangerous if you control everything that you post about yourself?

    thats what i dont understand.

If your worried about things getting posted, maybe you shouldnt be doing those things in the first place..

  • @SamsTheatre That's the point, people don't seem to understand that.

Refer to that operating systems and technology is getting simpler and simpler

why? Because the users don't want to read or learn how to use it, they just want to use it and have it work.

People don't control themselves on the internet because they don't understand the consequences of what they're doing. Facebook and Twitter have made it so simple that it doesn't matter to them, and it never will.

  • @61stsecond word. life.

  • STFU & do the roar!

  • @LACK78 i think you are the coolest guy on youtube :)

Thanks god i was not the only one to hate facebook

I totally agree that facebook is dangerous, i mean content that you upload into your profile once it's there, facebook have full access to it at anytime and it can not be really deleted, i'm sure facebook is used to study society and collect information to control YOU

it's a public spying free network that's how i see it.

  • @amarime You couldn't said it better. It is indeed a way to keep track of people and knowing what places you visit, what do you do, where do you work, etc.. It's all mind control.

  • as much as i agree with dave's opinions, i cant help but think 'im not one of those facebook addicts' then again, the first thing a crazy person says is IM NOT CRAZY

  • CrossTechTips Likes This

  • this is a serious video that all social networkers should see, they seem to blind themselves of these dangers when they are very very obvious, the places option on facebook for the mobile device is such an invasion of personal security & privacy but the people that do it do not understand

  • I agree and I'm one of those idiots that posts statues all the time. Its horrible. I need to wing off of facebook. Lately I have been but not as much as I want to. Whatever happened to phone calls? :-) Good video.

  • For the relationship status thing. You can actually delete that thing that pops up on people newsfeed. On your profile you just hover over that and click the X.

  • its not facebook that does all the things mentioned in this video, its people who do them. people do and say dumb things. they always have and they always will irregardless of facebooks existence

  • After watching this video, I deleted over 40 of my Facebook "friends". It's not like I'd be seeing those people any time soon.

  • skype

  • YOU'VE SAID IT ALL DAVE, I CAN'T AGREE MORE WITH YOU!

  • We should be facebook friends.......

  • I agree with you !! and thanks for posting this as I sent to a few family members who actually think that facebook IS connecting with family etc.

GREATTTTT VIDEOOOO !! NOW THIS SHOULD BE POSTED ON FACEBOOK PAGES,,,, I KNOW I WILL :) THANKS !!

p.s. you are picking on something that needed it very badly !! thinking of removing my facebook page and telling my family and few friends ,,, CALL ME

  • i've never posted a status ever

  • can I add you on facebook?

  • You just say the right thing Dave

  • Lol he's irish... The beer joke

  • Comment removed

  • hey dave, do you know about female players? we all know about male "players" but females can be too. I learned this recently when i met a girl that i thought was awesome but found out that i wasn't the only one that thought that. Not even close. I checked her profile and she has 800 friends.... How do you even know that many people? What's worse is that when she posts pictures of herself, they get tons of likes, all by random black dudes

  • Oh, and I also recently ran a series of daily posts detailing reasons why Facebook is stupid. The reaction by all the Facebook junkies was hilarious.

  • Excellent, Excellent, Excellent. After watching this I dumped about 15 friends on Facebook I realized I barely knew. I use Facebook in a rather interesting way. I use it as more of a game, to analyze people. For example, when Bin Laden died, I wrote "Slow news day." to see what type of reaction it would get. Most of my posts are tests, designed to see what people will say. I also pick on terrible grammar. Today somebody said, "Just ate super." I commented "Ate super what?"

  • let me think about it....

  • why you hating

  • @Halconandino Well said :)

  • I agree with you complitely and apriciate that you don't spam twitter. But do you always have to tweet twice that you have made a new video.

  • LOL... Insert Phoenician Blinds Transition Here...

  • I 100% agree !!!!

  • well said. I 100% agree.

  • I only use twitter to tweet tech stuff and read other people's tech tweets.

  • The only reason I use Facebook is to enhance real socializing. For example I can organize events such as a dinner at a restaurant, for example, and know who will be able to make it to make an appropriate reservation, or finding common interests with a friend you just met and maybe suggest hanging out doing something you both enjoy, and save yourself the embarrassment of asking out someone who is already taken, etc.

  • will skype be a legit replacement?

  • I love when people think they're really popular and they use Facebook instead of talking... I've always hated Facebook and refuse to use it regularly therefore only people who I know really know me.

  • THANK YOU. About time someone smart comes out and says something about it. Nobody better than Lack to tell it like it is. People, if you want to have a talk with your friends, have them come see you or go see them !!

  • I think it shrinks the way you communicate with people in real life.

  • I think you're right Dave I don't have a twitter or Facebook account but I was thinking about making one so I could keep up with Peter Jackson and hobbit news. Anyways it really is such a dumb idea but such a genius idea at the same time. I wouldn't mind trading bank accounts with mark zuckerberg though....

  • Anyone feel that people are usually quite contrived on Facebook?
