  • I hate ads... ¬_¬

  • comment at 2:30 F3 to an F4 tornado. Obviously not an experienced chaser. You can have a mile-wide wedge tornado and it just be an F2. The fujita scale is based on destruction caused, not wind speed, size or speed of rotation.

  • @mmanna82

True, but it is possible to estimate how strong a tornado might be by the intensity of rotation even though that is not what is used to give the actual rating.

  • @mmanna82 But i think the enhanced fujita scale measures tornadoes by their wind speed

  • @teatcherspetinmaking

Not directly. Damage is used to estimate wind speed

  • good song and great video!

  • as soon as he said "its coming this way", the rain comes pouring in

  • lol johnny shot my dog last night yesterday funny stuff

  • from F! to F4!!

  • @yamijosh22

  • The music made the Tornado loook beautiful and epic.

  • the civil defense alert brought me back to the states for a few seconds.

  • the music sucked the COOL out of this video

  • God hates Country music, this video is proof.

  • Awesome music! What song?

  • It amazes me people think they want to be in a tornado!! If you have even been in a building when one hits it, you would think again...

  • Pretty cool looking tornado! Ominous but still cool!!

  • I was getting really into the moment...then your music shattered it. ._.

  • That music made my brain die.

  • thats what sucks about living in the prairies in the middle of the USA!

  • tornado looked really small at the beginning of the video then BAM fucking huge colloum of destruction

  • What a MONSTER!!! I'm graduating from Atmospheric Sciences in 2 weeks, one of my teachers keep telling us his tornado chasing stories. I so wanna go tornado chase!! Only problem : I live in Quebec ...

  • this tornado tore up my houes. beside that grain elevator was a house and it was mine.

  • Lol Scary

  • hmm. I remember sitting in my cellar for this one. I was about to go to Pre-K. I met my best friend on this exact day. Amazing and terrifing memory.

  • the radio alert from 0:54 to 1:03 scares me to death

  • 4:54 kk'k!

    the car comes running kkk

  • yeah hes like oooohhhhhh shit!!!!!!!!

  • I was 6 miles south of Pampa on family ranch and was east of this tornado's location by about 10 miles. As it headed my way, I got a spectacular view up into the vault. No words to describe such an

Ominous yet grandeur scene. Rotation revealed at all levels of atmosphere that day. We sat there, shielding lightning strikes like a couple of idiots! Watching the show.

  • it was at 32 that it happened just look at the right and it will be a deer

  • @thedarkestangel100 where is the deer?

  • @ilovlunalovegood its near whitedeer texas there is no deer in the vid

  • dude didnt u see the deer it was pretty much going to get right into the storm

  • that had to be a EF5

  • You can't judge by size, and there were no F5 tornadoes in 2001. Judging from the fact that it didn't take the grain elevator it probably wasn't that strong.

  • Comment removed

  • thats a fat one nice music lol

  • that would scare the heelllllll out of me

  • man i soo wish i was them!

  • In 2007, the nocturnal monster EF-5 tornado that absolutely decimated Greensburg, Kansas was upwards of 2 1/2 miles wide it's said. This would tie it with the aforementioned Hallam, Nebraska tornado of 2004 as the USA's largest tornado ever.

What I and a lot of other hard-core tornado chasers and students of tornadoes have pondered many times is, since weather records have only been kept for @ 200 yrs. in the USA...was there ever an even LARGER tornado that took place prior to record keeping?

  • Actually, the Greensburg tornado was in the area of 1.5 miles wide.

  • Dragonridley, what are you basing your assessment that Greensburg was "only" a mile and a half wide? Anything that I've ever read has said at least two....and some have it at 2.2 miles wide.

I think someone ought to get ahold of Mike Umshied at the Dodge City NWS, and ask him. He's the one who put out the earliest warning on Greensburg....saving many lives. If Mike isn't around, ask Fritz Krause. Those guys will know the real deal on this horrific, but monumental event.

  • I'm not sure where I read it but I think it was in the range of 1.5 to 1.7 miles wide. Though I have heard estimates vary widely on other tornadoes. Taking that into account I have only ever heard of three tornadoes that had size estimates over 2 miles; there was the Hallam tornado, one of similar size in the Carolinas, and one in Central PA, though I've heard varying estimates for that one as well.

  • Actually, the largest tornado in the USA was the Hallam (Lincoln area) Nebraska tornado, which was 2 1/2 miles wide. Rated F-4, it was probably F-5 for a portion of it's life. But it stayed primarily in open fields where there was nothing to damage, hence ratings couldn't be done. The little town of Hallam, pop. less than 500, was only grazed by the edge of this monster. Still, it did F-4 damage there. This was in 2004. I believe it was May 22nd or May 24th. One of those two.

  • 0:55 wow that was like rite on cue :O so they DO accually use those annoying warning broadcast alarms XD

  • Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!! That guy at the end was HAULN ASS!! Incredible vid guys. Thanx

  • wow lol i like how theyre listening to sappy country music

  • Lol @ 1:49 The music ruined the seriousness in this video! :P

  • @MelinaIzAwesome True. But look at the location of tornado alley and where most damaging tornado's hit. I'm quite sure most if not all homes destroyed contained a collection of country cd's or more likely cassettes. I think its God's way of trying to clean up the music in this region. Just listen to the grammar in this clip....Its "fixin" to hit power lines.

  • The worlds largest tornado ever was 1 3/4 mile long.

  • Actually, the largest tornado recorded was 2.5 miles wide.

As to length, If you mean how long it was on the ground, the record is 219 miles.

  • wow, i nearly wish you have tornados like that in the netherlands

  • It is possible for it to happen, though I don't think to many would be wedges.

  • @godfatherduck you may think u want them untill they hit and then u will never see life the same!

  • How long was this tornado?! Seems pretty long-lived...

  • tornados can last 3 hours.... or only a few seconds...

  • you r crazty

  • Natures way of saying fuck you lol.

  • ROFL.

  • don't you love how they are listening to the radio, watching a tornado and the National Broadcasting System hasn't said a thing?

  • at 50 seconds it is going off in the background

  • wow, that's neat! i'd be very scared haha....

  • The force of nature at it's awesome best, respect to the storm chasers, takes a lot of courage to do that !!

  • lol i love the song in the background XD

anyways WOW LOOK at that sucker! truly a force of God!

  • God has nothing to do with it, its a NATURAL disaster.

  • Thanks again. Yeah, you definetly got that right, that cat has gotten close and personal, especially with that tornado in Ellis Co. Oklahoma. That was one of the videos I watched before I moved to Oklahoma to do some chasing myself. If you see any comments on these storm chase videos by "Torn80s", that is me also, I have two accounts and I couldnt use the same name for both. You give good answers to the others out there, especially with the ones who think the weak tornadoes are dust devils.

  • Thanks for the info. Jim Reed is a good chaser also, he has great vids himself. As for warren faidley, the article I read may have been a misprint where they put F5 instead of F4. I didn't remember the date of his first tornado, but it'll be easy for me now, because I saw my first 2 tornadoes on May 22, 2008. My first 2 storms I picked produced tornadoes. It was the Collyer Ks and Wakeeney Ks tornadoes. If Reed's first was the May 3, talk about a way to be introduced to storm chasing. Awesome

  • I didn't mean Jim Reed, I meant Reed Timmer.

This guy is the Steve Irwin of tornadoes.

  • nice toons

  • Awesome wedge, I've seen seven so far, just not in that magnitude. How long you been chasing? I get close, but you got like redicously close, and with it coming at you. And a wedge tornado at that!! Keep up the good work and don't get engulfed. I'm still amazed none of us chasers have been killed yet, but some are cutting it close. Killed by a tornado that is. I wish Eric Nguyen was still with us, his work was awesome too. Keep chasing!! Torn80cj

  • I think this guy's first tornado was May 3, 1999.

  • I don't know if the May 3-99 tornado was Erics first tornado or not, but If I remember correctly, I heard warren faidley say his first tornado was an F5, but I can't remember if his goes back before the May 3-99 f5 or if the may 3 was his first.

  • I have a book by Warren Faidley from what I can tell his first chase involved an F4 that hit Saragosa, Texas on May 22, 1987. Not sure about Eric's first tornado but I'm pretty sure May 3 was Reed's first.

  • nice...u guys realy got guts i like it

  • that guy in the SUV at the end was like ''fuck this shit, im outta here'' ROFL

    4:50

  • omg! that strom serien always scares the shit outta me!! lmfao!!

  • you guys should have gone closer to that bitch.

  • Kid, shut the fuck up

  • i'D SHIT AND SHIT... AND SHIT ON MY PANTS... GREAT WORK

  • These videos are awesome, but neither the video nor the tornadoes are rare, especially in this part of the country.

Not knocking the videos mind you, they are fascinating. Incredible in fact. Just saying that a tornado is far from a rare event in areas like this.

  • These guys aren't trying to exploit something that is rare. They are providing us with the best footage of storms. There really isn't anyone alive that does it better than these guys right now.

  • Maybe footage of this particular tornado is rare.

  • ha.Doppler dave:)(2:31):)

  • Thats...Nice to know lol.

  • blah

  • ha lol i was listening to Its all over (Three Days Grace) nad watching some videos on youtube during a storm but they had no tornado warning or anything out wind was blowing hard then it got all calm didnt know it but heard a loud noise outside instead of going somewhere safe i ran to the window and i could still hear the music freaked me out

  • i wanna chase tornadoes

  • they want to chase you to ^^

  • It hates your music! That's why it was chasing u!

  • @Vampwatch1462 HAHAHAHAHHAHA

  • the tornadoe went from smallest to smaller to small to big to fucking huge....lol

  • It's more like Cameraman Chasers.

  • I see why it's called a monster tornado....

  • ha.its like scary then the music comes on:)ha.

  • The tornadoes always seem to chase you. This, June 23 Manitoba, and a lot others.

  • Wow, I was scared just watching it XD That's really awesome!

  • that would be very creepy

  • MONSTER!!

  • [tanks line up to fire, but the shells go right through the tornado]

  • whats the song at the beginnng

  • Amazing footage Joel! Reed is definatly not with you. Don't think he would be listening to country!

  • Comment removed

  • This storm was an amazing one. I remember watching that first tornado develop just south of Dumas where I live. The largest one out of that storm was an F4.

  • woah! what a big tornado! F5?

  • No, this tornado was in 2001, there were no F5 tornadoes in 2001

  • I don't know for any of you, but this must be the BEST TORNADO video EVER!!!

  • That tornado was actually small compared to some we get here in Texas. Google largest recorded tornado in US and it should pull up the info.

  • I don't just get it,why people is saying that " we don't have tornadoes" etc. If the conditions are right, tornadoes form everywhere, not only in US. I am from Finland and it's a cold country, but still we have tornadoes, just not so many. Biggest recorded is F4.

  • Stop spamming you absolute moron!

  • isn't it amazing how the tornado in it self drifts with such freocity whilst a few miles away it's all nice and sunny..

That monster tornado must've been cool to see huh ? :D

  • i just think it would be cool as shit to be driving down the road and see that monster just moving along a few miles away

  • Great video...thanks!

  • I'm going to be driving on the I-70 from SD, Ca to Missouri in June... what do I do if we encounter a tornado and there is no shelter available? Please share you advice... Thank you.

  • dont panic and really loud FUCK! U! TORNADO! GO AWAY! and if that dont work hit it with ur car!!! should work remember show NO FEAR!!! HAHAHA!

  • HAHA XD!! that could work as a fear killer/ confidence booster, except the last part lol.

  • Whatever you do, DO NOT panic. It may get you killed.

  • Simple, floor it and GTFO of its way... There's a time and a place to break speed limits, and manouvering out its way at excess speed is unlikely to get you a ticket.

Remember, if it don't look like it's moving in any particular direction, that usually means it's coming straight to you.

  • does anyone else think it's kinda stupid to be listening to country music while a tornado is right on your ass? I would be listening to the sound of the wind.

  • I think its kind of nice, that monster of Nature and the soothing sound of Country, might make the situation a little less tense. The less tense the situation the better you can think about how NOT to die lol

  • i think it's stupid listening to country and western music any time
