  • today in madrid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YEAH!!!

  • If ever there was a song that haunts

  • Oh, look, MTV... when they use to play real music... -_-

  • what is name album with track??

  • If you watch this while looking out your open window into the musty cityscape between 4 am and 7 am it has magical effects. So does the other Xymox songs if you have a cd player or a cassette player. Try it you'll like it.

  • @ZombieLightYagami i like it·!:)

  • brilliant!!!

  • Love his voice so MUCH !

  • mtv used to play actual music videos? interesting......

  • it's amazing how internet grants access to all those vintage music videos...i love it

  • Best Dutch band ever...and on 4AD...sjees...in that time it was a compliment to play on this label...love it....PS Robert Smith is somebody else...with there own good music but never played at 4AD...says enough (i think)xxx Autodafeh242, Amsterdam

  • the vocalist is so hot

  • He smiles like Mona Lisa :)

    Love CoX!

    p.s.:greetings from Russia!:)

  • reminds me of a rainy commute

  • I remember going to the music store and buying anything with a 4AD label...we knew it was going to be "our" music!

  • The Cure overrated?.........where have U been 4 last 30years?seriously mate(:

  • this is good but not better then the cure..

  • I miss Anka...

  • LOL...we ALL looked like Robert Smith back then!!!

  • This shows how MTV used to be cool.

  • I'm kinda obsessed with this video... ♥

  • @paralyzed0 cool, i am not the only one ;)

  • Nossa epoca 80´s e 90´s Show que eu curtia a noite de Sao Paulo...Retrô,Madame Satan,Armagedon,Dejavu...nossa muitas baladas lokas...good Times!!!!!!

  • I want to start a goth band... our main musical influence will be Clan Of Xymox with The Cure as a not so distant second.

I am the guitarist. Who wants to join me?

  • @TheDiscoLemon Im trying to start a goth rock band too with various influences from the 80's and some 90's deathrock and maybe even incorporate a lil industrial, but most people where I live aren't familiar with this kind of music,so it's been hard.I live in LA where do you live? I write lyrics and do vocals

  • I love the *eyeroll* at 3:41! :D <3

  • a very beautiful guy

  • In Alternation magazine Ronny Moorings claims he made 'Twist of Shadows' "entirely independently, without the rest of the musicians who were then on vacation". ?????? This is ridiculous. In fact, it's probably libelous. I wonder if the other band members have seen this interview?? Truly incredible.

  • SPK followers ... truly amazed for someone post this video ty :)

  • I LOVE YOOOU MY DEAR RONNY!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

  • ronnywelosttouchlotstotell/darkpoet-chumscrubber@comcast.net

  • Ye, but unlike the CURE< the CLAN of Xymox knew when to call it quits!

Love the MUSCOW VITE MUSQUITO! Back when the GOTH MEANT something! (don't know what, exactly, over my head- but it sure sounded nice!!)(

  • I saw them back in 1988 in Warsaw, Marchewka festival. My first big concert, Everything was first and so powerfully real. The first day was New Model Army.

  • In my opinion, it's the best COX's track from their archives!

  • Love the fro!

  • Everyone keeps comparing this to The Cure. Here's my two cents: Ronny Moorings is so much sexier than Robert Smith, and his voice is much more sensual.

  • It's just my opinion sweetie

  • @Anneemaija Then it's ok:)

  • Better than The Cure

  • @Anneemaija I wouldn't say that.

  • @Fushia1992 I would. The Cure are overrated ... their songs don't make me feel anything. Clan of Xymox take me on a journey, every time.

  • @modechick101 your personal opinion/experience its not important.... as every other personal opinion/experience... who cares besides you what takes you into a journey... the cure over rated? playing since 1976 till now 30 plus years... not a lot of bands get away with that.... is not over rated.. it an on going artistic project... if u don't happen to feel anything with it... no one cares... keep it to yourself

  • @JuanAndreful obviously you cared enough to reply. if my opinion, just like anyone else's doesn't matter why do you care? IGNORE it. you seriously want me to keep my opinion to myself just because you can't handle an opinion that's different from yours? buddy this is the internet... lots of people have lots more to say than my little blurb on a YouTube video. get thicker skin.

  • @Anneemaija I agree. IMHO, their music is much more cerebral and complex.

  • @Anneemaija

I agree. The Cure is a bit overrated. I tried to get into them, but most of their songs bore the hell out of me.

  • @Anneemaija as good as the Cure these first two LPs were.

  • @Anneemaija Way...way better!! ;) =]

  • Dutch trains... whatever... good song... gone...

  • this is still one of my all time favorite songs

  • amo muito esse som... ha quase 20 anos... =)

  • LONG LIVE THE CLAN!!

  • YOU

  • i really like clan of xymox. im only 23 so i wonder how popular these guys were in the US. were goths a common sight during the eighties and nineties in say cities like san francisco or los angeles?

  • @dacraba20 hahahahahahahahaha

  • @NarcissusVoid whats so funny you weirdo

  • Thank you WCVT-FM in Towson, maryland USA. the early 80's rock!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes!

  • MTV2 probably thought this was the new solo record from Robert Smith.

  • Fffffrrrrraaaaaccccckkkkk!!!!!

That's 5 F's, 5 R's, 5 A's, 5 C's, 5 K's, and 5 of these! Happy little proles waiting for the next train? No! We are waiting for the goddamn carousel you daft capitalist! Bastard new music video directors shall not learn a thing of true class from classic 4AD. High art from the television babies' days. Cheers for uploading this Fushia1992. Ah, yeah, 1992 was the 2nd best year of my life also.

  • I love listen to it while I'm on the road...Feel in a another world, face the dying sun and the trees fading away...

  • This song is getting me through the death of my mother. I wish I could thank them from making it.

  • Great tune. The best one they've done.

  • Great band, great song. Plus, the Dutch guy is really cute! Too bad they chose to take that turn in their career.

  • Ahh so soothing.

  • I love this song. A very dark atmosphere.

  • que tiempos... siempre el mismo pelo XD

  • sorry pero se parece un chingo a la de joy division, love will tear us apart....

  • stunning tune from lonely is an eyesore

  • taped from Peel in my carefree teenage years. Thanks.

  • if the regular MTV channel would can all of their reality shows and frequently play videos like this one, then we wouldnt have so much shit music today.

  • I still have the 'original' 4AD cassestte and video tape for 'Lonely is an Eyesore'.

  • dark fucken' wave!!!!

  • woah woah WOAH! Since when does MTV play actual music anymore?

  • @carpenoctem66 since never! I remember "120 minutes" when they showed the best bands (at least the ones I liked) life is sad for music, which is life, which means life is sad. How can we make life happy again?

  • @PositiveLastAction Sadly we CAN'T make it better again unless we get rid of practically EVERY modern "artist". There are a few exceptions of course, but they are still awful in comparison to bands such as this!

  • Fpr Rose.... i think i saw these guys in the city, but i can't remember where...

  • Darkwave rules

  • I miss Xymox!

  • The original line up COX is one of my all time favorite bands...This song is ingenious.

  • this song is so well put together produced synths guitars drums bass vocals man under dogs from Nam and back

  • Great track, I ever loved it!

I am rather desperately trying another COX's song titled "Move The Glass", which appeared only in one of their old live in 1985. Does anyone know if there is a version on CD? (including live, of course)

  • a Ronny se le ve lindo *-*

  • I heard this song on a local college station and was immediately mesmerized.

  • Great song!

  • In this video Ronnie Moorings looks like Robert Smith (The Cure) ...^^

And his performance similar like Mr. Smith...

    ..but that's not worth mentioning...^^

    Xymox and Cure: GREAT BANDS

  • He looks more like Saul Hernandez from Mexican band "Caifanes". Do a google search on him during the late 80's era and you'll see what Im talking about. Even the music sounds a bit similar to Clan of Xymox.. though Xymox came out first ;)

  • @MrsAdely My 2 Faves of all time..!! Good music tastes MrsAdely!

  • GREAT SONG - GREAT VIDEO!!

One of the first Xymox Songs.

But it`s not the Original "Muscovieto musquito" (from the first album "Subsequent pleasures")

  • Comment removed

  • genial clan of xymox sobre todo esta cancion me encanta ojala vuelvan pronto a chile ... i love ronny moorings ¡¡¡

  • On mtv2! would have never guessed

  • I've heard people say Zee-Mox or Zy-mox

  • New Wave lives forever!

  • Seing them live tomorrow!!! I'm psyched!

  • Dutch by any chance? ;)

  • Yeah :P and I guess you're seing them in the LVC isn't it? ;)

  • One of the most greatest COX's songs.

I loved this track and the video since the first listening.

The youngest Ronny was a dark star and this 4AD's movie style is taken from the compilation cd+video "Lonely is an Eyesore".

    A must!

  • SUPERB!!!!!!

  • zy-mocks

  • how do you pronounce the name of the band?

  • MMMM

  • Hace mucho no escuchaba esta cancion...

    Muy Buena !

  • love it.

  • I agree, 4AD record label was fantastic at this time. I can't believe this is about 22 years old!!! My fave song when I was a teen. It felt so European and almost pretentiously melancholy, but I loved it.

  • Your right. 4AD at first had alot of dark sounding bands like this, Cocteau Twins and Wolfgang Press. But, on the American side it was The Pixies and Throwing Muses. Lonely Is An Eyesore is one of those great comps that 4AD use to put out. Some of 4AD's bands in the 90s were great and my personal favorites, too. They seem to have went through a dry spell in early 2000, but I think there is some good bands coming out again. St. Vincent and Blonde Redhead are great. I do miss those compilations.

  • Incredible band. I miss music like this :/

  • omg!!! i love this song.... one of the songs of my life =)

es tb una de mis bandas favoritas.....

    arf... qué recuerdos!!!

  • I didn't see anyone else mention this in the posts but I always thought this song had quite a Joy Division feel to it, although I never considered the similarity to Echo and the Bmen as a previous poster pointed out... still, a great tune with an infectious acoustic riff

  • weird, I don't manage to see the similitudes with joy div at all. With Echo a little (the rythmic guitar), but I definitely also see some strong sound similitudes with the First and Last and Always album of Sisters. Anyway it definitely has the good old Clan of Xymox sound more than anything else :).

  • I went to a concert of to Toulouse (France) in 1992 it was brilliant in this period they were on the label 4 AD with cocteau twins, this mortal coil

    Thank you for this video

    Saludos :)

  • Exacto! Lo mismo pense yo!

  • Ronny's a cutie =)

  • umm... okay im kinda a noob to youtube and commenting on it, but ive been following xymox and clan of since about 1991, and i still dont know what the hell Muscoviet means. if someone does please respond or pm me please

  • 'Muscovite'. A person from Moscow.

  • sei la

procuro um video deles mas num axo

    queria que alguem me ajudasse

  • que chimmmmmba parcero!

  • OMG! I was a young guy when they first album came out and I bought it....

  • Cool post! Xymox never disappoints; Clan or otherwise.

  • This vid makes me remember: "House of love", "Sisters of Mercy", "The Chameleons"

"Blackadder"... Where the h*** did that last association come from.

  • where is the other version ?

  • On your Subsequent Pleasures album. :)

  • I think it's better :)

  • this song reminds me of a darker echo and the bunnymen with the vocals mostly...this is when I began my "nut's" thing for the cocteau twins...but this was very good.. the whole eyesore thing was great..

  • Impresionante.

  • LOL why do I love this song? Rewind to fall of 1990: "Sandford god dammit, don't put crap like this on anymore when I'm tripping, it will stick with me for twenty years." Must be the acoustic guitar rhythm.

    Thank you for posting!

  • goose bumps...

  • OMG, I still have the vyinil of Lonely is an Eyesore.

  • love this music,very wonderful

  • Great song and video...a bit of a departure from their style at the time, but brilliant!!

  • Dayuuuummmmm.

  • Oh shit! Good music on mtv? What the Hell?

  • it was probably on Subterranean at two in the morning, they also play siouxsie and the cure

    its a bit odd

  • Yes, MTV use to have a program in the early 90's called 120 min. and they played "alternative" or non-mainstream music.

  • 120 minutes started in the late 80's. 1987 i believe

  • yeah, i think you're right, around 1987

    good show it was

  • with your host "dive kendull"

  • That was a great show. That is when the M in MTV stood for music, not money. I remember seeing stuff like Smashing Pumpkins (Gish era), Nirvana, Cocteau Twins, Lush, The Pixies, Belly, Throwing Muses, Sugarcubes, Sonic Youth, etc. There were just really good bands on that show and back then. I really miss that show.

  • Yeah all those bands were great especially the Pixies and Lush. In highschool, my friends insisted I was a dead ringer for Miki from Lush, I didn't see it but whatever.

  • Man, Lush was one of the best from the 4AD label. There were so many great bands even in the 90s from 4AD like His Name Is Alive, Belly, The Breeders, Lisa Germano, The Pale Saints, The Red House Painters, Scheer, Mojave 3 ("Love Songs On The Radio" is a fave of mine), Kristen Hersh, Heidi Berry, Underground Lovers, etc. I love those compilation CDs they use to put out and I think the 90s was that label at its best. Are you Asian? I think Miki is so hot.

  • Romantycy muzyki rockowej w czystej postaci !

  • very fucking good song. I love all 4AD music

  • Love this song.

  • Bzzzzzzzzzzzz splat! Got the little bugger.

  • A friend of mine lent me the VHS of Lonely Is An Eyesore. I should have stolen it.

    Movement in sound.

  • such a rush this song is, i exloooodde!!!!!!!! lovitt!

  • Good stuff. Had this at one time and lost it like a jackass. Damn.

  • flamboyant music!!!!

  • Man,this video really brings back memories..............

  • How come MTV(2) doesn't actually play videos(any good ones) anymore, do they need an MTV3 for those of us who want to watch vids like this on sat? MTV f**ckin sucks....

  • damn right

  • How anachronistic.

  • Fantastic song,fantastic band!

  • Why don't they ever come to canada :(

  • Listen me TheRosePhantom,Why you are ungry with me?Not is my fault, cause if you like COX,

never to make a immitation of they,is a mistake,my apologies

  • Hell yeah....

  • ya no se ase musica asi

  • Xymox is legend...
