Seems to me too much elevator on the climb out made it stall, then out of shot, so just suspicions here, it went inverted from which the pilot was unable to recover from at the low height - so pilot error was to blame me thinks !
What you say is correct, that is why I was running 2 x 6v packs connected through a battery backer, this takes care of a dead cell or dead pack issue so there was plenty of power available, also when I test my cells it is always under load conditions, only running standard servos not high power digital servos which demand more power. The light system is run off of a seperate 4.8v nicad pack so as not to drain any power from the Rx system. Thanks for your input but it wasn't low cell power. :-)
failsafe is often caused by a low battery. I have experienced this toooooo many times. What happens is when you check the battery it shows up at a high voltage, but that is because there are no servos or motors to be powered when you check the battery. many receivers cut out at a certain voltage, spektrum is at 4.6, just .2 volts less than a fully charged 4.8 battery. If you are going to use a complex control system, make sure you have waayyy more electrical power than you need. hope that helps
@acteuro03 wow ure so smart, i cant beleive the guy didnt think of that!..well maybe if he had ANY control of the aircraft you would've tried that..lol
Sad end to a beautiful looking plane. It looked rebuildable though - then again I'm demented enough to put six old hulks in the jigs and have a go at them! One previously very broken (30+ year old) airframe completed 4 successful test flights a couple of days ago and reuses 85% of the original wood. Won't name the (rare) plane, the owner would probably shoot me! The moral is... don't junk 'em, someone out there could possibly get 'em back in the air for you.
I was flying my RC plane this evening and had some type of radio failure. I cannot find any explanations. The reciever battery was fully charged, the transmitter battery was as well. Then all of a sudden, the plane would not respond and it went diving downward. As it picked up speed it climbed out and came back towards me, and somehow i had control of the airplane again, i immediatly landed. Before I put it back up, I want to know what happened. What can you tell me about this failsafe thing?
@grahamoutflying Hi the engines don't have the fail safe, it is set up through the receiver so that if there is loss of radio control then the failsafe kicks in, you can set failsafe to cut/stall the engine right through to full throttle, but it is generally set to tick over so the plane, if in flight will then come down sooner rather than later, as later could be miles away in a busy town! Not a good thought :-)
The motor could have caused the problem, something may have become un-shielded or maybe the the switch messed up and lost power to the receiver. I would retire that receiver or use it in a combat plane.
I am currently building a Cessna 182 81" span with all the lights as well. I am using a O.S. 120 4 stroke with pump, should have more than enough power, 20cc. It is a bit over kill but I like having power when I need it.
Sorry about your plane. was really nice. Good luck with your next one.
@conexn It went in the bin, unlike many who sell there's on ebay for a quick buck at someone elses loss, have changed to 2.4 for the replacement model and all has been working well
@MustangBazza Currently our world has gone MAD!!!!? I guess if one has so much money, and many servents throu generations, then one think that they are GOD!!! BUT STILL its really good to find Hunesty and Goodness between people.....
What you put with one hand you always get in return with the other..:-)
Good Luck with your Next build....I think i will go for a 2.4 for my next radio too :-)
Unlucky mate, beautifull plane. But it would have been nice if you had kept the camera on the plane for everyone to watch the impact, I bet the crash was MEGA!!
next time you get a failsafe , pull your throttle stick to idle, then back up...this is supposed to restore the system...I know because I had the same crap on a 2.4.....
finally, somone that watches the vid, and takes in all the relative information!, the amount of way out comments I get like, it must have been very windy to cause that???? I seriously didn't think 4 one moment that my friend could be blamed, I expected nothing from him towards the loss either. Ken is a solid upstanding guy that I feel priviledged to have as a good friend, I would trust him to fly one of my planes again tomorrow, (but not today!) hee hee, Glad you liked the drmatic vid,,,, Bazza
Yes, there was a seperate power source that powered the lights.and the model was running on 6v with a back up device with another 6v supply should the first run low or fail.
On take off and climb out the receiver went into failsafe due to interference and so the motor returned to tick over, and control surfaces are locked out, the air was already under the wings in the climb out, so when the motor went to tick over the nose continued up inducing a stall, without power or control at that moment, it was not possible to get the nose back down to force a landing or power away. Not pilot error, just s**t 35mHz interference. GO 2.4!!!

I hate when camera men do that and lose focus on what they're taking. the lease you expect after an accident like is to have on tape those lats moments of your plane before it hits the ground, someone should slap that guy haha
hey, thats not really fair, it was an expensive plane and he must have been in shock. besides, why would you want the crash on tape, so you can whatch it over and over again? if he was a pro camera man then yes, it would be very bad.

Great thing about model flying is that the pilot generally survives. Unless the owner doesn't have a well developed sense of humour.
