I've put them in my apple sause before :P Food coloring can not kill animals if it gets in their mouth. My dogs have eating two of my food coloring bottles before and they're not dead. A lot of people who consider this abuse simply believe it's wrong to dye an animal's hair, not because they don't have a choice in the matter, but rather because the dye could be harmful to them. People of the opposing view argue that there are non-toxic, "totally safe" dyes out there, but in all actuality nothing affects everyone/everything the same (think allergies, hypersensitivity, etc.) The fact that dogs are colorblind is irrelevant.

Unfortunately nothing has been created or discovered for us to be able to understand what is really going through a dog's mind, wether they even have opinions or not. We once dyed a full sized gray horse bright green for a St Patrick's Day parade. He was the 'horse of a different color". We used regular food coloring, and it was perfectly safe. He looked awesome. Later when he rolled in the snow (in Colorado), he left a green spot on the snow. :o)
Dying animals is for the owners, and just for fun. The animals benefit because they get lots of extra positive attention, pets, hugs, treats, etc though. It's totally safe.

They use natural food colouring.
WE EAT food colouring in all candies and sweets.
Dogs don't even have to eat it, it's just on their fur!
&& Dogs are colour blind, they can't see the actual colour, they'll just see random colours.

I am a dog groomer and coloring your pets hair is a big thing right now. It doesn't hurt the dog and frankly...they don't care what they look like as long as they are loved. If you don't like the way it looks, then you don't have it done.

The only thing that could posibly go wrong is if some jerk abused the animal because they thought it looked wierd, but then again a person with that kind of mentality should probably be tought a lesson anyway. If the owner is willing to protect the animal then why is this even considered a problem?

A lot of people who consider this abuse simply believe it's wrong to dye an animal's hair, not because they don't have a choice in the matter, but rather because the dye could be harmful to them. People of the opposing view argue that there are non-toxic, "totally safe" dyes out there, but in all actuality nothing affects everyone/everything the same (think allergies, hypersensitivity, etc.) The fact that dogs are colorblind is irrelevant.

Usually, I don't know about your animals, but when I take my dog for a walk, talk to her in a baby voice, feed her man-made food, her tail wags. Thing is, that isn't' my opinion. And it's just like you said, we don't know if it's proven if "tail-wagging" is proof of a dog's happiness. But so far the majority think so. I don't judge animal "abuse" based on whether the animal might like it or not but on the health of the animal. Of course if they show visible discomfort because of it, then obviously people shouldn't dye their pets. However they don't show visible discomfort so it isn't even cruel.

All I know is that I've seen dyed animals, and even have dyed animals of my own that are perfectly healthy and seem content despite their fur color. But you're entitled to think whatever you wish. I just wanted point out that the criteria you're basing "abuse" on is hypocritical. I'm not trying to convince you to like it when people dye their animals, just that it does absolutely no harm to an animal physically or emotionally.

We once dyed a full sized gray horse bright green for a St Patrick's Day parade. He was the 'horse of a different color". We used regular food coloring, and it was perfectly safe. He looked awesome. Later when he rolled in the snow (in Colorado), he left a green spot on the snow. :o)
Dying animals is for the owners, and just for fun. The animals benefit because they get lots of extra positive attention, pets, hugs, treats, etc though. It's totally safe.

Jesus..a dog in a rainbow color coat. have no words fore this i got 5 dogs myzelf and the only paint they got is brown from playing in the mudd.
I bet these dogs are kept clean like there childeren,and dont get to behave like a dog..i think its wrong.in some cases a coat is needed in the winter but coloring its furr.come on.this is done by people who treat there dogs like toys or childeren..i feel sorry fore those dogs..and i dont care if its been done safely...

i think we hurt ourselves more than what some people here think.
Some places dye the dog's fur with kool-aid, and I guess other places just use more natural colorants, such as stains. humans are the only ones killing our own hair with chemicals.
