  • SWEETNESS TO A MAN'S SOUL JUST GREAT..........

  • Hey Rocko, What It Is? You are right, we have not seen each other for quite some

time. I retired from performing, and I don't miss it. You know, you can download

Holly Go Softly from Amazon for 99 cents. Everything we ever recorded is available on Amazon for download. It's good to hear from you. Hope you're healthy & wealthy!!!

    Later, Dave B.

  • @themagmen

    Dave,

Glad you saw my message. I'm doing OK...healthy, but still working on the wealthy part :-)

    Take care, my man!

    Rocko

  • @themagmen Dave, saw you guys play a few times....lived in Gettysburg and wow, my friends were big fans....still are....this and 'I Could Be So Happy' my favorites....though they are all good....again, thanks for great memories you guys provided....!!!!

  • I know the guy who played the organ for this group, nice guy.

  • I was a freshman at Indiana St. University in 1968. I had a friend from Harrisburg, PA on my floor and he had a Magnificent Men album. He played it for me and I was blown away by their sound. He eventually gave me the album and I still have it 43 years later. They don't make music like that anymore.

  • Hats off to Jerry Blavatt and Harvey Holiday for including this on their lp, "Holiday Presents Blavatt, Blavatt Presents Holiday" on Old Gold back in the mid 80s which is where I first heard this song. Everything this group does is great especially "By The Time I Get To Phoenix".

  • LIKE FINE WINE THEIR SONGS GET BETTER AS I GET OLDER

    ROCKING IN PHILA AT 66

  • saw these guys at the uptown in philly in 1966. they blew away everybody. Best blue eyed soul ever !!

  • Yes, they are from Harrisburg and York, PA - a formation of two bands from the cities that came together to form one band - Magnificent Men. Still hear this one played on WDAS Butterball Sunday Oldies Night.

  • They are not from camden,Harrisburg i believe.

  • @ricknelms, They are from the Harrisburg and York, PA area. I live here and was a teenager at the time.

  • Fantastic. Thanks for posting!!

  • This group is one of the best blue eyed soul groups to come out of Pa.

Growing up in South Philly My friends and I ran out and bought the "45"

(remember them) the first time we heard it.

  • @fredcalvello -Got a standing ovation at the Uptown Theater in Philly.

  • I lived in Gettysburg and used to see these great group at the Sunny Club in Camp Hill....a big shoutout to everyone in Central PA....yeah, baby!!!!

  • Great group/Great song. I always thought they were black, as they sound like the soulful black male singing groups of the 50s & 60s). Magnificent!!!

  • @speedoflite1 do you have the lyrics to this song? there is a section after I suffered from that I can't understand

  • @hazymoonbeam "All the things a man could suffer from, I've suffered from (yes I did).

All the things a man could get tougher from, I got tougher from (yes I did)."

    Check your mail/messages: Complete lyrics

  • @speedoflite1 Thank you sooooooooooo much!!!! You have made me and a friend very , very happy. He has been searching for the lyrics for many, many years.....

  • @hazymoonbeam ...happy to help u out. ;)

  • @hazymoonbeam The line you refer to is: All though things that are rough would come, I got tougher from.

I must have had stones in my voice on that line. Everybody always asks me what I sang on that line of the

song. Dave Bupp, lead singer for the Mag Men

  • @themagmen Hi, Dave, Hope you are doing well. Long time no see :-)

    Rocko the Jocko!!!!

  • "Oh my God...they're WHITE!"

  • @shnewsman This was allegedly Georgie Woods' reaction upon learning that fact.
