So, after months I'm back here. I can't speak gaelic (or something), I used a translation I found on the internet. What Mihanaflower said. If I remember in a good way, Eluveitie reconstructed the old language.
Gaulish is extinct and it was spoken by the Gauls, people who used to live in what is now e.g. France and Switzerland (for example French comics` chartacters Asterix & Obelix are actually Gauls) and Gaelic is spoken NOW and there is Scottish Gaelic spoken in Scotland and Irish Gaelic spoken in Ireland. It sounds really different and is still alive for example they even have TV and radio in that language.
@MultiDelt I know the history, I just didn't know the difference. So what we Serbs call Gell, it is actually Gallic. Ok, thanks. And Gaulish isn't extinct, there are few reconstructions. I know for one small town in France that is spoken only by Gaulish :-P
@PMCEHeaven Gauls were French, Germanic people and therefore spoke a different language. Even the Scots and Irish spoke a different language. The Irish speak Gaelic or Erse, the Scots speak Gallic. Gaulish is much like Latin, due to the fact the Romans pinched some of the Gaulish words and altered them slightly.
Nice song, but the mentality's as old as the language. The guy's an ass for using you for sex, and you're entitled to be angry and heartbroken and all the rest, but why shame? You have done nothing shameful. At least you got some sex out of it, learn your lessons and move on, unashamed and untainted. You are woman, and the sexual realm is under your dominance.
I figured out the metaphor for the song at 2:38 up to 3:00. o.0
The "wolf" is a boy who played with her heart and had sex with her, then left as she was falling in love, 'cause he never loved her, just used her. And she was overcome with shame afterwards...
...and I thought this was a pretty song when I /didn't/ know the words.
"selgin blatos tou uinitutos" translates into "i hunt for the flower of youth" ?
I am in no way Gaulish speaker, in Greek "silego blastus tis neotitos" translates as "i collect the stalks of youth" , interesting Indoeuropean stuff eh
@Kangooroo08 It is their language. They are from Switzerland they really know the language. The translation is provided by the band itself. The person who made this video took the English translation from the net.
@Kangooroo08 It's considered extinct because not enough people speak it anymore. How they learned the language was from pieces of pottery, scrolls and what have you that they worked with a historian to figure it out...At least, I think that was it. I remember reading how they learned the language, just not all of it.
@Kangooroo08 Sorry to say that both are wrong, but it's not extinct, it's dead. It means people can speak it, but it is no more usual in the average day (unless you have an time machine or teach the French theyr language again)
@MrMerdas123 It's Gaulish. It's a dead language that was spoken in Germany and France. It's a form of a Celtic language. They were a clan of Gaelic nomads.
@darthbonsly There was always a train of thought that the wolf was a man. The word wolf was used to describe someone who was manipulative and cunning.
BTW, I'm learning this as the my first music on the Flute! Next to it i'm gonna try Slanias Song. I'm doing it, even because this music is easy (at least the flute part). It is repetitive, slow, and i can impress my metalhead friends =D
can you learn this language somewhere?
