I'd love to see the lame ass losers at 12:13, 12:24 and (in particular) the little bitch at 6:44, becoming hostages and handling it ooh (not) so well. In reality, the kidnappers would fairly quickly grow tired of constantly changing their diapers and as a consequence release them. Still, it would be interesting to see and undeniably quite a learning experience for them.
conservatism means keeping to past values and changing slowly. Religion has not been an aspect of goverment there as it has in the west. Most japanese are atheists
I am truly sorry for the American presence and war in Iraq. I was one of many millions in this country who protested that war. I also believe that our presence there and our rush to military action has done nothing to prove the Al Qaida wrong about who we are as a culture and as a people. And it saddens me more that innocent people of the nations around the world find themselves as victims of these conflicts. My heart goes out to the victims and to the Iraqi people living through these traumas.
Having said that, I am sorry to see that these hostages have had a difficult time returning to their lives after being subjected to their capture. I almost want to adopt them here! Politics, from my experience here in America, is always a victim of manipulation by those in power who want to keep control. I think that it is safe to say that this goes beyond Japanese and American politics. There are many nations in Africa alone whose governments are clearly run by people abusing their power.
As an American, I just want to say a word of thanks for the comments left here by the people of Iraq. It is true that our media here has bias, and many of us know it but still there are many who follow the old saying that you can believe anything that you want to believe. As much as it pains me to admit that I think many Americans are ignorant, I hope that the world can at least acknowledge that not all of us are. It is a hard fight here at home, and we do what we can to spread words of reason.
for some reason journeyman likes to put a very negative spin on their japan coverage. while the problems they highlight exist, they're not anywhere near as extreme as shown here. i live in japan and i love it.
I was very annoyed at 2:31 when the woman labeled Al-Qaida as "Iraqis", most of Al-Qaida members are not Iraqis and Iraqis are in absolutely no way supporting Al-Qaida, everyone in Iraq hates Al-Qaida for they have killed hundreds of Iraqis, Muslims and Christians.
God hates Al-Qaida and therefore will grant us Iraqis victory over them.
FUCK AL QAIDA! Piece of shit cowards only attack unarmed civilians. This is fucking sick how they were shouting out "Allahu Akbar " yet they don't know how God is angered with their cowardly, dishonorable malicious acts.
Although it wouldn't help much now. On behalf of all Iraqis, I'd like to say sorry to the hostages that were taken captives by those criminals, and to any Japanese person who could possibly be reading this. And I hope life is treating those hostages well now.
This sounds like the American government pulling the strings of the Japanese Government again. The US Government needs as many people as it can to fight their war for them. These hostages jeopardized the Japanese presense in Iraq and so my government put preasure on the Japanese government to silence, and marginalize them. Welcome to New World Order.
Those nice Japanese people havent experienced true terror until they came to Iraq lol. The terrorists said they would burn them alive, and I believe they absolutely would have.
thats true but what if you don't give into the demands and the hostages are killed, terrorists could keep capturing and killing people until they get what they want if demands aren't met. Personally i think the only way to solve the problem is to capture the terrorists but even that has flaws, like how to find/capture the terrorists and if you succeed will that spark a battle with the allies of the terrorists.
I am from Iraq and Japanese ppl is one of the ppl I love the most , and i really do feel sorry for the 3 of them ! so can u pleas not talk as if u know all the arabs !
just because one fucked up araber do somthing as this dosnt mean all of them are like this .
I feel a lot of sympathy for these people, no one deserves to be treated like that. I do think it was foolish to give in to demands, British hostages are taken quite frequently, and so far the government hasn't paid a penny, yet most of them come back alive. I think the government of Japan can be very dodgy in swaying the press, much like America's, and obviously the government wanted people to hate the hostages for some reason. Japan as a whole is not like that though, not usually,
The problem is, Japan is filled with scared people, scared of the change brought by a radical change of circumstance, and scared of anything that will break the conformity of the country.
Another fascinating documentary. The Japanese civilians had no business being in Iraq, especially back in 2004. Iraq was/is/will be an unsafe place for foreigners. While I do have sympathy for the former hostages, Koizumi made the right decision: You don't give in to terrorists. However, the defamation campaign against the former hostages wasn't necessary. Japan needs more public debates like this.
Wait I'm confused. So these people were humanitarian relief for people in Iraq and taken hostage by radicals, but why does everyone hate them? So Japan's heading into a really Conservative trench? Does that mean they're like US conservatives? Does that mean they'll try and put religion into politics? Can you please try and post more critical Japan videos,my anime freak friends are in love with Japan and I don't think they know any of these intriguing problems in Japan.
@imlaughing2death i think ur anime freak friends know more about this then you, i am an anime freak maybe more than ur friends i watch these videos, i know about the world war 2 , i know about unit 713. i know about the massacre in nanking and i still love japan. these things do not only happen in Japan, the whole world is fucked up.
@imlaughing2death It goes way back in Japanese history, that if a soldier in battle was captured by the enemy that they must kill themselves in order to regain their dignity in society. Because, to Japanese, it is very shameful to have that happen to them.
@imlaughing2death Also, I forgot to mention, although there are many aspect of Japan that Americans can find to be liberal, but after all there are still many aspect of Japanese society that are still conservative, since it is a country brought up on Confucian ethics, which can also explain a bit of why Japanese public had felt the range of emotions and thoughts the way they did.
Japan sent troops to Iraq in violation of it's post WWII Constitution because it states that the military can only be used for the defense of the Japanese nation.

Ironically, Japanese businessmen are routinely kidnapped (usually in Mexico and South America) and their ransom routinely paid.

Google japanese businessmen kidnapped. I lived in Japan for three years in the late 90's. I read newspapers. That's how I know.
