You know what...her voice is SO much better than it used to be! I love Under a Violet Moon but the vocals are pretty flat in places. This is brilliantly-sung!
I don't think I have ever disliked an arrangement by Ritchie with BN. His guitar work is exceptional. And like red wine, in my opinion, it gets better with age
I am a die hard Kinks fan and had serious misgivings when I saw this on the track list, but what they did with the song I think works brilliantly. The arrangement, the key change... more a re-imagining than a remake. And for me it carry's the same emotional punch as the original. Kudos to Blackmore's Night!!
@sugarpixie10988 your absolutley right there with that point. The music on this song is ok(though a little on the commercial side)but those lyrics are dreadful as is the title. Why did they have to write about the hollywoood stars on the hollywood boulevard?what kind of nonsense is that?completely unnessesary and very much out of keeping with the style of the album and what the band stand for.I think if it was all left to Candice then we would no longer have a rennaisance style of music at all
@jonybeam Technically they didn't write it, the Kinks did. That said, I think it was a poor choice for them to cover. It just doesn't fit them. I feel the same about their cover of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love", which is one of my least favorite of their songs.
@andysengines Ah ok thanks for confirming that yes i thought i'd heard someone else mention that.I agree with you i do not understand why they feel the need to include covers of these types of songs or indeed have anything to do with poppy commercial sounding music from time to time(all because of you and just call my name were two other shockers that should never have made it to album aslo) and which for me just spoils otherwise exceptionally good music and albums.Other than that no complaints.
@jonybeam I think you're missing the point of the song. You have to remember that this album is dedicated to their daughter. It is supposed to be giving her some wisdom in her life. The whole album is sort of like that. The songs on in seem to be giving advice to young women. I think people misinterpret the album as Blackmore's Night becoming more commercial when it is really about the appreciation of their daughter and helping her with lifelong struggles she will probably encounter

I am really surprised that very few of you know that this is a 'The Kinks' song from their 1972 album 'Everybody's in Show-Biz'..

Yes Candice, your life is like a movie, and you are so fragile as Garbo was, but you forgot Lon Chaney and Errol Flynn and John Barrymore.

Nice song but you made a real mess of reproducing the lyrics.

I'm sorry...I'm a big fan of BN, but I really wish they'd go back to writing there own songs.

Yeah, I don't really like this one as much as the others either. The music is fine, but the lyrics aren't my cup of tea. Still a great album though!

@DruidRobur That's a very fair point and if that is the case then i salute them.

I'm not too fond on this one. It fits the Kinks fine, but I just can't image Candice singing about Greta Garbo and Mickey Rooney.
