Dog cat hatred is a myth. I have owned a dog and cat and they got along fine. My grandmother owned lots of cats and dogs in the country and they all got along fine.

@matrox I agree; my family has had multiple cats and dogs over the years, and never once have we had a problem. (well, except our older cat we have now - but she doesn't like any other animal, even other cats. She's just a cranky ole granny kitty lol)
