Not to tell you how to play or anything, but on the second half of the first riff you covered, it's easier just to play an open note on the D string as opposed to playing the D on the fifth fret with the A string (which is kind of a stretch). Just saying...

thats exactly right its an open d string. im currently learning this song the correct way i use my thumb to block low strings and index to block high strings its just all with practice and the low 7 and low 8 are with my thumb as well

This is nice for beginners and it's pretty easy, but it's not how it's originally played. Frusciante pick all the strings and mutes all the strings he doesn't want to hear, instead of picking on string at a time. Well, he does it most of the time, not allways. But this is the exact case of can't stop. That's why the Can't stop from By The Way and the way this guy played it, doesn't sound the exact same.

Back when I took lessons my teacher said that the only way for your fingers to get stronger was to just practice and that they'll get stronger over time...He also said that if anyone tells you that a good excercise to make your fingers stronger is to squeeze a tennis ball don't listen b/c it doesn't help at all and b/c all you're getting good at is squeezing a tennis ball.
