David is a classy man...and I could not agree more, Rick Wright did a lot of good things for that band...I miss him a lot. Listen to 'Summer of 68' and tell me you don't hear the beginning s of the Wall sound somewhere in there
you could tell talking about pink floyd hurts him very deeply so much time wasted and so much lost just because Roger Water wanted all the fame...what a shame that could still be around to day if they where still together, Rip Rich wright Rip Daivd golmour Rip pink floyd...
This clip just confirms what I always felt/hoped. That David Gilmour is not only a treasure and wonderul musician but a nice kind man. You see that in the way he felt about Richard. RIP
Those Eavis douchebags can rot in Hell for not honoring the last wishes of Rick Wright. Fuck Glastonbury. They robbed the world of a final Pink Floyd reunion for FUCKING JAY Z. The festival can have its Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and so on. Rumors is next Britney Spears will play in place of a final Genesis reunion with Phil Collins, Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel (Phil won't play anyhow due to retirement due to injuries). Pink Floyd should have played Madison Square Garden as a GOODBYE!
I understand why David doesn't want to do any more shows with roger and mason, and it's because ric wright was the fundamental part of floyds sound, think about it, shine on you crazy diamond would have been nothing without rics synthesizer in the beginning
14 Dislikes? Seriously, how do people accidentally find this video and then dislike it? It is about a music legend honoring a music legend. What the hell is wrong with people?
(2) Rick's piano/keyboard skills and everything else he had done for Pink Floyd and what he had created as his own solo material will be treasured forever...
Thanks for eveything, Richard. We all miss you so much...
Although the guitar is my main instrument, I will always appreciate Rick's incredible input to the music of one of my most favourite bands EVER. I remember hearing about Rick's tragic passing three years ago and it was one of the saddest days of my life. He was a truly gifted and remarkable musician and will NEVER be forgotten...
it is a terrible fact of life, death of coarse, to imagine traveling around, working, playing, together as long as these gents did, living life to the fullest, is something only a select few get to experience..its a sad time indeed to see these members of Pink Floyd age and die..we can be thankful for all the great music they produced..I will always remember and respect all the members of Pink Floyd by far the greatest band ever. R.I.P Mr Wright. and remember Roger waters song...What God Wants
said with true passion david! i didnt know i could shed tears at the age of 14! R.I.P richard wright! lost in his world of beauty and grace, may he rest. FULL STOP!
david is stellar . the first name in popular music. remembering richard is always going to be tearful. i wish david could reach out to daniel kirwan. david plays albatross exquisitely, so there is a connection. maybe david could find something in danny that wants to be found . anyways , that is my wish. david is pure love
That makes me so sad watching that, when Dave chokes up at the end. I've grown up listening to Floyd. And I know how much Rick's work contributed to their music. His keyboard sounds are so memorable. And I think his vocals were underused. I just loved the sound of his voice. RIP Rick. You are missed.
one of my favourite Floyd tracks is A saucer full of secrets live in pompeii , when Rick comes in with the organ after the chaos...Still sends shivers down my neck...wonderful, beautiful piece of music.
Rick was the one that gave Floyd the magic and beauty in their sound. Without him, all that imaginative experimentation that the band excelled at, would have turned out cold and unpleasant.
What a kind thing to do...I guess richard was the George Harrison of pink floyd..the 3rd genius.i just litend to "wet dream" and now i know a little more about where the floyd sound came from.
The way his voice broke when he said "Richard Wright" at the end brought me to tears...you could really feel his pain and loss. and as Twotellys12 said before me, the man is a real gentleman and and so very laid back. Be assured the day we lose David Gilmour, the world will be a lonelier place to live in.
@BionikTuning Total agreement - there are very few people I would site as 'heroes' in my life but Dave Gilmour is most definitely one of them. Long may he live and play.
can we just honor the intention of what Gilmour was saying here and listen to some fucking Richard Wright in the next couple clicks>? Posts of who's better in the band mean about 1/8 inch from my finger to my thumb..
To little to late,,,,,,they sacked Rick from Pink Floyd at one stage,,,in the 1980's,,,anyway they havent written new music for years,,now an oldies act..............
More like Waters sacked him. The group reunited with Wright, but without Waters, and produced a couple more albums and tours. I was lucky enough to see them twice during this period, although I would have preferred to see the entire original lineup. Pink Floyd is not an "oldies act", they are a classic band that has achieved more success and contributed more to Rock history than most acts could ever dream of.

Wright was so important to Floyd`s overall sound but is often seen in a cooler light to Gilmour and Waters.Nice to hear Gilmour say such words of praise for his friend and band member.
i was crying with david gilmour just then. omg how richard wright, will be missed by many! pink floyd wouldnt have been floyd ,without richard.! MR WRIGHT was the one who,put the greatest guitarist in history, with the greatest bass player and WRITER, in history, TOGETHER ! mr wright blended everything all together! thankyou mr richard wright. one of the best! miss you!
@billbadford the reason i voted down was not against you. i love your comment, but roger is a class act along with gilmour. roger just had to get past his demons! david gilmour is definitely a class act, but roger waters just needed to catch up! smiling! i hope you agree.
david gilmour is definitely a class act, but roger waters just needed to catch up! and yes he did! just listen to his speech, when david did comfortably numb with waters, on rogers "wall" tour! proof enough for me! this is not about either of them, its about richard here. he will definitely be missed! god i love his music!
He is holding his crying... Man, I am very very happy to see this. This defines the real friendship between partners, seriously, I always respected Dave, now I have him like a real hero. Thank you Dave, to make me so near to God when listening your songs!
Gilmour is a real gentleman, not only is he the greatest guitarist of all time, hes so humble and laid back, which is very rare when it comes to global superstars. rip rick
@a1mint i have everything jimmy did, but i must tell you so you know, george harrison was the best guitar player ever but zappa is ever so close to george!!!!! les paul was ok i guess and steve vai is still learning, and how about all the kids today at the age of 13 and 15 that can do any thing that all the guitar player i just wrote about can do on one hand? but to be serious there is no such thing as the greatest guitar player, i guess it's who you like. gotta love billy gibbons
"Hendrix was ranked number 3 on VH1's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Rock N' Roll, behind the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. He has been voted by Rolling Stone, Guitar World, and a number of other magazines and polls as the best electric guitarist of all time. In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked him number 6 on their list of the 100 greatest artists of all time."
I think we can agree Hendrix is way up there anyway, as are the others on the list.
You could tell how much david missed richard...it took a lot for him not to cry which is why ill bet he got off stage so quickly. I will miss him & syd as well
David gilmore-a true gentlman, and his voice breaks as hes clearly upset about the loss of his true friend and band member the best keyboarder ever 'rick wright'!!!
Comunque, come ho detto, lui merita questo premio esattamente quanto me… Grazie."
Mr. David Gilmour has to be one of the most classiest Gentlemen I have ever known of. This touching tribute to his friend Rick Wright is both touching and heartbreaking..David, Richard and Pink Floyd .with all their amazing talents were a gift to us all...Rick is certainly missed...I am sure whn David and Nick took the stage last week at The O2 with Roger Waters...Rick was smiling down..cheering them on. " Wish You Were Here" R.I.P. Rick Wright...Keep blessing us David with your awesome music..
Man, in the last seconds, David was on absolute edge of falling into pieces. He quickly evacuated himself off the stage, cause if he stayed on it just about a second longer, we would see him, i don't know, speechless to say the least. Best sympathies to Gala and Guy Pratt. Do not ever forget Rick. If you somehow do, just put Dark Side on, and he'll be there, in eternity. R.I.P.
The great gig in the sky has to be one of the best chord progressions ever writtten by a british musician. People find it hard to listen to floyd's early stuff which is understandable and easy to forgive, but ive never seen the point going on a journey to wake up at the end or open a book and skip to the last chapter.... Pink Floyd are without a doubt a journey worth going on from start to end
Was he choking up at the end? It was really big of him to spend his whole speech telling about his appreciation for Wright. You can tell he really was Wright's friend. He's obviously nice and very generous.
In the early days Rick Wright was doing things with that organ that nobody was doing. I saw them in Seattle 1970 in a theater about 1500 seats. We sat down, the lights went out, a door opening on stage, you've heard it a gazillion times on their albums, assuming you bought something besides The Wall or DSOTM. Somebody walked thru it, up the left around behind us, down the right, back on the stage. Door opens again, slams shut and the lads explode with Astronomy Domine. Rick ran the joystick.
Class.

@twotellys12 Whoa, although I'm a *major* Pink Floyd fan, might I remind you that Jimi Hendrix was the greatest guitarist of all time...
a1mint 4 months ago
@a1mint i have everything jimmy did, but i must tell you so you know, george harrison was the best guitar player ever but zappa is ever so close to george!!!!! les paul was ok i guess and steve vai is still learning, and how about all the kids today at the age of 13 and 15 that can do any thing that all the guitar player i just wrote about can do on one hand? but to be serious there is no such thing as the greatest guitar player, i guess it's who you like. gotta love billy gibbons

@SuperFirewire1
Yes, it's subjective.

Comunque, come ho detto, lui merita questo premio esattamente quanto me… Grazie."

A bit cruel to get the song breath before and after a speech about someone who died... But it is fitting, in my opinion.

TheKevsmith19 8 months ago 3
