@AuroraGreenleaf, yes, this is a popular rephrasing of the the way the clown Touchstone describes his rustic fiancée in the comedy As You Like It: "A poor virgin, sir, an ill-favor'd thing, sir, but mine own; a poor humor of mine, sir, to take that that no man else will" (Act 5, scene 4).
Is that a Shakespeare quote? 'A poor thing, but mine own'. It must be, but I don't know which play it is from... Anyone know?
