  • That was funny........ 99.9% of people are ignorant about the rotary motor. I have a rx7, it's more reliable than a v8 chevy and smoother.

  • the first OHC engine came out in 1879

    the first OHV engine came out 1949

    the first ROTARY engine came out in 1957

    a piston just applies the force of an explosion with better efficiency than a rotary, in a rotary the explosion happens and has to push a triangle to the side, it doesnt make any sense, the compressive force on a piston is more direct and as such gives greater power, not to mention its easier to cool than a rotary

  • @deadfaithful Yeah but with piston you have to convert up-down movement to a rotation movement with a crankshaft, which leads to a loss of power. In that sense, the rotary is much more efficient as the ''triangle pushed to the side'' is already in rotation. + the rotary has fewer moving parts. For the cooling it's obviously harder, but thats just a matter of a bigger rad and intercooler(if youre running a turbo setup)

  • @deadfaithful Quick question, if the piston engine is more efficient then why in the same time period does a 1.5L or 1.6L piston motor without a turbo only make around 102-127hp but a 1.3L rotary without a turbo make 140-160hp, in fact, i think that the piston motor had to be 1.8L and bigger to finally pass that horsepower mark on stock production cars???

    BTW i own an 88 10AE Rx7 as well as a 2000 WS6 so i like both but i dont know why one would say the rotory is less efficient. different, yes

  • @rotaryturbo88 cuz the rotary works more like a two stroke. It produces more power strokes per revolution of the crank than a piston engine. This gives the Rotary an awesome power to weight ratio compared to piston engines. A good way to compare the two engines is to double the rotary displacement. In your case a 1.3L rotary is comparable to a 2.6L piston.

    "torque is only useful if you can get it to the ground", There ya go. 200 is more then a civic and just shy of a 4L V6.

  • @whatUsaybob if by 7 liter v8 u mean the ls7, please try and find something bad about that engine, its a 400 pound motor that takes less space than a OHC v6 and puts out 500hp/480ftlbs

    as for the 4.6L i guess it just goes to show you that if you use the riceer OHC setup you can even make a v8 powerless,

    i mean come on, mustangs need superchargers to compete with N/A GM motors

    Torque (lb-ft) 475 (644 Nm) @ 4800 rpm

    Engine redline (rpm) 7000

    Those numbers are pretty low if you ask me. The LS7 will always make more lowend then topend, so its got a pretty narrow powerband. MPO, I wont use it to race, but it's great for the trophy truck I am going to build at some point. :)

  • @whatUsaybob yeah right narrow torque band, ive seen dyno sheets show it starting at 350tq/2000rpm going up to 500ish at 4400 and finishing at 7000 with 450

    the horsepower just climbs straight up across the sheet and almost levels off at 6000 and is the same at 7000, and an aircraft doesnt need torque to get the propeller spinning it needs horsepower to overcome the parasitic loss, a car however needs that grunt of torque and rotarys just cant supply

    You guys give a lot of credit to an engine that has been around for over 200 years. Look you go and use your V8, I will use my engine, i'm just sick of you pistonheads always saying this engine needs to be tossed. It's new, and mazda/nsu own it. No other development is being done outside of them.

    This design is 40 years old, piston engines have been around since the 1800's, no shit they work better.

  • honestly, the engine is fine... it's been running for 2 years since that rebuild. None of what you said was wrong with it. I rebuilt it, because the front side housing coolant passage cracked, and that's all. And, btw, it doesnt even have side seals or any seal for that matter installed in it on the video... it was a bare rotor in a bare housing before cleaning and rebuilding. I still don't understand why you're so pissed off about a joke video.

  • The relay for the fans died while a friend was driving it... he called me to tell me "coolant was spraying out from under the hood"... the temps were around 130 Celsius according to the power fc. The extreme overheat cracked it... I was lucky to get away with just that cracking, haha. Im not trying to blame my friend.. it wasn't his fault at all... stupid relay, haha
