The Green Party is Accepting Platform Amendments

Isn't the Green party in the USA pretty much powerless, hence the reason why America is in the shit, while other western nations, eg. Germany and Australia, with strong Green party representation, are kicking arse.

I feel sorry for all the smart Americans were have to put up with America's crappy unrepresentative democracy, where minority parties are completely excluded, where a vote for the Greens = a vote for the Republicans by depriving votes from the Democrats.

the best thing the green party could change is its name. the green party sounds to most people like some treehugger one issue party that only cares about the environment and has no opinion on any other issues. don't get me wrong i consider myself a green, but the truth is it will never have the momentum to gain a huge following if its name leaves an unwanted first impression in people's heads

Small business and personal profit allow humans to stay on the land, protect it, and use it wisely. Few would argue that a human profit motive is the real problem, the economy cannot depend on expanding indefinitely.

Profit can be made by serving a human need sustainably, but it is hard to find employment doing it.

I don't think we're against making a profit. We're against exploitation, and imperialism. Many people in the Green party have businesses for organic and other environmentally friendly things. I'm sure they are in it to make a profit. So I would say we are not against capitalism. We support FAIR trade.

@aicram62 i would argue that all profit comes from exploitation. I'd also argue that one of the major reasons for imperialism is capitalism.

I'm not comparing people with small businesses to walmart or wholefoods or anything. I'm just saying that there's a better way to do things. And any informed leftist would prefer fair trade over the current neoliberal trade agreements.

To me Green Party folks are decent left-liberals, but they fail to get to the root of the problems.

Workers produce much more value than they are compensated for. Thus, they are exploited. This is Marxist stuff.

Also recently on NPR a business, ( I think it was the one in Capitalism: A Love Story or something like that) where all the employees were part owners and helped decide on how to market the product and shared in the profits, was shown to be doing really well. First, Marx didn't come up with the concept of a vanguard party, Lenin did. Second, the system in the Soviet Union & co. wasn't socialism. Third, yeah I guess Marxism has been totally refuted. Capitalism isn't going into crisis anymore, markets have led to untold amounts of human freedom, and capitalists will be able to make profitable investments forever.

Obviously, a socialist alternative makes no sense at all in light of this current, wonderful system that we all enjoy.
