Isn't the Green party in the USA pretty much powerless, hence the reason why America is in the shit, while other western nations, eg. Germany and Australia, with strong Green party representation, are kicking arse.
I feel sorry for all the smart Americans were have to put up with America's crappy unrepresentative democracy, where minority parties are completely excluded, where a vote for the Greens = a vote for the Republicans by depriving votes from the Democrats.
the best thing the green party could change is its name. the green party sounds to most people like some treehugger one issue party that only cares about the environment and has no opinion on any other issues. don't get me wrong i consider myself a green, but the truth is it will never have the momentum to gain a huge following if its name leaves an unwanted first impression in people's heads
Fvck you! Because of the green party's interference, republicans have now the upper hand. I agree with your ideals. However, ideals don't trump reality. Our reality is that this country is full of right wing nut jobs who only care for themselves and vote. Your party's interference cost us several seats. And now we're going to have two years of nothing getting through the house and more than likely another rove puppet in the White House. Nice going d!psh!ts.
Most Democrats who lost didn't even have Green Party candidates running against them. They lost because Obama and his staff made fun of progressives, and didn't fight hard enough for progressive meat and potatoes issues, which lead to low turnout.
@jbillonthemake And it's you fucking MEAT-EATERS and ANTI-ENVIRONMENTALISTS who stand in the way of me getting VEGETARIAN-ONLY FAST FOOD places built near me.
Only a SHITHEAD who knows NOTHING ABOUT REALITY OR CAUSE AND EFFECT blames a POWERLESS group of individuals who STRUGGLE to fight against anti-environmentalism and religious extremism for the actions of the vast majority of SHITHEAD VOTERS who don't have the brains to push a simple button for Ralph Nader in the voting booth.
@jbillonthemake Nice going, rightwinger. If you don't appease me, a proud atheist vegan who supports outlawing meat, coal, and human reproduction, then you have absolutely NOBODY TO BLAME BUT YOURSELVES if somebody gets a bomb and blows up your coal mines and coal-fired power plants and factory farms.
Not against profit itself, profits for fictitious persons.
Mythical benefit of mythical monsters, that's our beef.
We all must share in how the huge piles of capital run the Earth.
Small business and personal profit allow humans to stay on the land, protect it, and use it wisely. Few would argue that a human profit motive is the real problem, the economy cannot depend on expanding indefinitely.
Profit can be made by serving a human need sustainably, but it is hard to find employment doing it.
I don't think we're against making a profit. We're against exploitation, and imperialism. Many people in the Green party have businesses for organic and other environmentally friendly things. I'm sure they are in it to make a profit. So I would say we are not against capitalism. We support FAIR trade.
@aicram62 i would argue that all profit comes from exploitation. I'd also argue that one of the major reasons for imperialism is capitalism.
I'm not comparing people with small businesses to walmart or wholefoods or anything. I'm just saying that there's a better way to do things. And any informed leftist would prefer fair trade over the current neoliberal trade agreements.
To me Green Party folks are decent left-liberals, but they fail to get to the root of the problems.
@LeftPolitiko why would all profit be exploitation.?
If I'm selling shoes, and you're selling leather Why can't we both make a profit, unless you're including the cow that has had it's hide exploited,.. well then.. I'd have to think on that. I'm not personally vegan so I do use the earth and it's inhabitants, but I think it can be done without exploit.
The Natives did it for hundreds of thousands of years.ation.
@aicram62 I'm not saying that exchanging goods is inherently exploitative. Capitalist profit comes from the difference between the wages payed to workers and the total value they produce. Workers produce much more value than they are compensated for. Thus, they are exploited. This is Marxist stuff.
@LeftPolitiko right, so wouldn't the solution be to receive the value of what you produce as opposed to outlawing, capitalism? I mean there are groups in "third world" countries, producing coffee and sending it here to us on a Fair Trade label.
@LeftPolitiko B rest of post. To expand that model would seem "fair". Also recently on NPR a business, ( I think it was the one in Capitalism: A Love Story or something like that) where all the employees were part owners and helped decide on how to market the product and shared in the profits, was shown to be doing really well. I wrote the ORG name somewhere...
Anyway I'm a Novice, I don't speak for the GP, but I don't think we're communists. We might be socialists capitalists or something.
@LeftPolitiko it's not the profit itself, as much as making profits for fictitious persons who screw up the entire world to give more money to those who can't spend what they've got without screwing up other peoples' lives.
Running the whole shebang for mythical benefit of mythical monsters, that's my beef.
We simply need to imagine we have more imagination than that accumulated by our fore-bearers.

@LeftPolitiko Most of their supporters have a good head on their shoulders, then. Your Marxist historical narrative was sufficiently laid to rest in the twentieth century for any mature, practical person to still embrace. Socialism makes no sense, from a number of angles. The vanguard party doesn't work, as we have seen with Stalin and others, and that's the only way to "force" socialism, an unnatural system that doesn't work, onto people.
@psionomega@psionomega Wow. Spoken like a true "progressive." I criticize capitalism and you call me a Stalinist. I'll bet Glenn Beck would never do something like that, right?
First, Marx didn't come up with the concept of a vanguard party, Lenin did. Second, the system in the Soviet Union & co. wasn't socialism. Third, yeah I guess Marxism has been totally refuted. Capitalism isn't going into crisis anymore, markets have led to untold amounts of human freedom, and capitalists will be able to make profitable investments forever.
Obviously, a socialist alternative makes no sense at all in light of this current, wonderful system that we all enjoy.
@LeftPolitiko The government overspends on corporate welfare, 100s of billions to a few companies. Its skimming. All presidents are like JohnGotti. The boss. Its all about personal finances. The people in power skim. Its all about loot. Getting yours while you can because look at Jefferson and Lincoln. They both died broke in debt. You have to get your while you can. Some of the ex presidents and former first ladies use to sell off white house artifacts and furniture. All for money.

@variablast End the Drug War. Go to GP[dot]org
Youtube is not the place to get involved with the Green Party people. I suggest you go to the official website for that.

@psionomega There is no scientific proof for anything you say. You make ridiculous insane generalizations.
There never WAS any true communism in Eastern Europe or Asia in the 20th century.
Prove that "communism" "caused" people to be imprisoned for marijuana or drug or porn consumption in Vietnam, for instance.
By contrast, manmade climate change has been proven fact.
