  • I was there...I had recently moved to CA from South Africa. I remember that night Hale Bopp was visible all night. A spiritual experience for sure. I don't think any event has come close since. Those of us who were there and who experienced it are fortunate...we all shared something special that night.

  • C'est sa k'cest BON !

  • @wanderpants That would soooo freakin ill to party in Australia!! I will check out the party your talkin about!!

  • I'd love to see part five, when the music finally stopped. This collection is fantastic.

  • I wish I was a raver back in the "golden" days. Unfortunately I was too busy watching rugrats.

  • The greatest party I have ever been too. Even after WMC MIAMI 11. Still dancing on and love it the same. But what I'd do to go to another Done or Moontribe.... Those were the good ol days

  • HAHHAH Tanta roba!!

  • @crazycracker187 . Well, that feeling hasn't changed since 1996...

  • @BDDave

    ROFLMAO

  • @crazycracker187 Gosh... I was listening to the live streaming from EDC 2011 and some people were doing that too.

    @BDDave, true dat! LOL

  • By 1998 this scene was kind of dying a death IMO. The Spring/Summer of 1997 was definitely a pinacle, and probably the best. There was this party, the very first Juju Beats, a couple of massive Moontribes, Armageddon, and some dope underground warehouse events in LA. The second wave of rave that hit 1994-1998 were some of the best years of my life. We were lucky because let's be honest, this sh!t will never happen again, no matter how hard anyone tries.

  • Do you guys in America still party like this? Or has the scene died like it has in the UK?

  • @manicbassa dead

  • @manicbassa

Dead. There's an underground revival starting up again in LA right now with old school parties in warehouses, but this scene pretty much died by the end of the 90's. After the incidents with the deaths at the 1999 JuJu Beats, and Moontribe anniversary, it was pretty much over. Cops had started using the Crackhouse Law to try and bust promoters for distribution. I got hit up by a soccer mom looking for E at TIME one night in 1998, turned out it was LAPD. I kissed the scene bye!

  • shit my dad was at this....

    hella old school :}

  • thanks for posting these. so many memories is there someplace or site that we can watch the full feature instead of in cut youtube segments and increments?

  • CREARLY DRUG's BEHEViour, or how i write that word, hahahha,

LETS GO INTO SPACE!! if i need XTC OR WHAT FOR IT I TAKE IT ALLLLL:D

  • haha, the backpack and face mask phase, i went through it too ::facepalm:: still wouldnt trade my memories during the warehouse dayz for anything in the world!!

PS - Thumbs up to anyone who can correctly guess the number of JNCO jeans in this video!!!! :D

  • Did you go to Dune III as well? That was fuckn crazy in the middle of the El Nino Storm? Our faces were sandblasted in The AM.

  • @MIGUELLL602

Rave is already different...it has changed drasticly over the years...

  • Btw, does anyone know the name of the (awesome) song that starts at 4:30 ????

    It's so relaxing!

  • @o0L4nc3r0o

Not quite sure of the remix, but it is the Bladerunner theme. Hope that helps.

  • @L3D0L3

Ok thanks, i know the Bladerunner theme very well :)

I'll search for a remix of it ;)

  • Ok, there's one annoying guy there... the guy with the whistle >:(

Damn, I'm trying to enjoy the music :p

  • i only wish raves lasted this long!! time to find one!

  • why the fuck did i have to be born in 93... shit looks groovin

  • Lol! I love watching this! I am in the orange Adidas shirt at 0:24. WTF am I doing?!?! I was wandering around alone for hours. I took a black pyramid at around 3:00am that night, and I know that I was still tripping when we left late in the morning. I honestly don't even remember the daytime, except that I had a fu@king blast.

  • the things i would do to go to a rave like this...... raves nowadays only have people trying to show off and pick up chicks. FUCK IT TAO baby

  • EVERYONE'S PEAKING WOWOWOW

  • track id at 05:23 please........

  • Well, it's nice that I could bring back some good memories for you ;)

  • @BDDave Thats how i remember gatherings!!!

  • @BDDave hello guys, can somebody tell me which track is played at 5:28 and further...a wonderful tune but i don`t know its name!

  • @Bobby3902 The song is "Interspace" by Discodroids(Ferry Corsten). What I wanna know is the name of the song that starts at :20 and peaks at 3:37.

  • hi everyone... I used to love desert parties =) I'm the girl at 4:34 you see in a long sleeved blue shirt and peach ear muffs shaking my head dancing... I love this video!

  • There are still events like this happening in the the SoCal underground. The spirit has not been lost, you just have to search it out.

  • damn... this is what my mom ment about how crazy raves used to be? this isnt even bad lmfao

  • @MIGUELLL602 I can tell you now I WISH I had all those LED lights and toys and clothes then!

  • I really miss this time in my life raves where so sweet every one felt so connected is like the crowd was one person lol.

you could dance what ever way you wanted or just move head up and side to side.I only saw one fight in over 5 years of going to raves it was a parking lot those two idiots had nothing to do with the rave they where just outside .people where to happy to mad lol im 34 now i rave from 19 to age 25 lol

I remember getting to the rave around midnight and leaving nextday 7pm

  • this is what it must be like to have the movie dune all up in ur drink

  • wheres the shuffling?

  • People did not shuffle back then we just moved to the beat. We did break dance!

  • i wish I was around for this

  • I got some footage of a party called HALLUCINATE that was on a reservation out near Anza around the same time as this. It's at my parents house in a box somewhere, I need to find it. There was some crazy Indian guys with guns stopping people before you drove onto the site, making people open their trunks and shit. I think it was some sort of golf course, but there was no grass.

  • i think things have just evolved, not gotten worse.

there are still many people out there that pour their heart and souls into this just like then and don't care about the drugs at all.

there are still parties with amazing music and amazing vibe, texas' scene has recently come back again and we just had our biggest massive ever-the vibe was wonderful.

i know most of you aren't in texas, but i'm just saying.

  • dave, whenever i'm bored at work, i watch your videos and crack up. im 34 now but i remember the raver days like they were yesterday. one thing i hate about those damn desert raves- the next day, ie. black snot and a wheezing cough that didn't go away for a week, bleh.

  • @aprilzap You forgot about the 2 to3 hour drive back home at 7 am in the morning and the desert heat was intense if you stayed later. But it was our generations Woodstock. Hippies turned Ravers.

  • That was the best party ever - by far. The production value was amazing and the coordinated DUNE clip at midnight with the flares on the surrounding hilltops can't be repeated. They don't show it on any of these clips, but does anyone remember the giant alien from Toy Story that they put on stage in the AM? They had ropes attached to his arms and were making him dance. Robbie Hardkiss in the morning. I even saved a chick from tumbling down a cliff. Can you tell I'm pining for more?

  • looks fab but have you checked out (rave in forest in russia) its like this but more off it

  • Doran morning sets in the desert...Nothing Better. I can't find me anywhere...I'd say look for the guy with the black beanie but there are so many beanies...haha.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't on an Indian Reservation because I've been on an Indian Reservation twice to rave and this is not one. I still have the directions to this location in my file cabinet. Its very close to the Salton Sea.

I have a bunch of original pics from this event(not uploaded)

    See more history at: Facebook/LARaveHistory

  • Mecca was the exit. Its in Indio off Mecca.

  • @LARAVEHISTORY

I can't remember if this was a res or not either, but I do remember driving to this, and it seemed we were driving forever on these dirt fire roads, and didn't see too many other cars. Then we got up to the top of this huge hill overlooking this valley and I couldn't fu@king believe the HUGE line of brake lights I saw going on forever; so many cars! I just remember thinking this was going to be HUGE and its gonna get shut down. I was so wrong! I think we left at 11am.

  • Does anyone know the song that's going on in like half of the video? [For example like, 2:00]

  • @laughingperson5

Per DJ Doran, "It's called "The Show" by Discodroids (Peter Nijborn & Ferry Corsten) and it came out on Tremolo Records (cat#: TRE2004) in 1996. Silly fun party music... ya gotta love it."

  • wtf? :) this is in the U.S.?

  • Lol. grandpa partying at 4:51- 4:56.

    This is an awesome video.

Whoever remembered to document this moment is amazing. :]

  • shit looked like a down ass time. too bad it dont look like this anymore..lol

  • plurrrr

  • 4:54 4:55... guy in khakis.. rad

  • that party was off the hook! crazy memories!

  • OOOoooh my gosh! I was so here at this party. It was one of MANY that I attended back in the day ( I was 20 then). I remember hearing about the guy that fell off one of the dunes and it was so tragic and such a reality for me. about makin sure to enjoy the music and the dance floor in it's purest form.....sober! Bless him!!

  • I was there and I have footage, just need to digitize it...

  • thats soo cool! why today it hasn't happy parties like this??

  • A college student died that night in the desert. High on acid, he wondered off, fell and broke his neck.

  • @EarlyRaveMusic Because the scene has changed big time. Parties in LA close by 3-4pm

YOu can still find parties like this but there underground ;-) just where the scene should stay.

  • @EarlyRaveMusic people now are 'too cool' to be happy, im not though!!! :D

  • what's a rave?

  • Damn I always thought the elder ravers would be much more understanding of the whole rave/trance situation. It comes across as elitism to me. "We knew how to do it and anyone younger than us does not and is ruining it". Quite the generalization. Its obvious that ugly shit happens everywhere and im sure it went down in the old days just like nowadays. That said, I hope the spirit of music and dancing and yes even drugs saves us all, and fast.

  • I need this song:D anyone have the name of the whole track here :D

  • God bless you for posting it bring back the memories of what a damn a rave was...Does anyone remember the rave Called Circa it was thrown in downtown l.a.?

Anyone have pics or vid on it?

I hear everyone on that price shit now these days ...all dj's selling out.. no one just wants to grab some decks speakers fuck it and start grooving

  • THE BASS MUST FLOW

  • Glad you guys enjoyed the footage. I think I was the only person there with a camera so I took as much footage as possible. Wish I would have had 2 batteries for my cam, would have had more. Anyway, more old school videos on my page and posting more in the future...about 30 or so videos from my days raving in L.A.

  • Yes, thanks so much. It feels like a dream or from another life now, It's hard to believe I was even there dancing on the hills with lite flares

    P.L.U.R.

  • @OldSchoolRava I miss it so much! I wish that beautiful vibe was still around at parties.

  • I was there!!! Once you find the PLUR you don't lose it. Bring it on to your daily lives.

Dj Doran rockin' the Technics!!! no shitty pop-electro. Just techno

  • I have always felt I was born a decade too late. I'm REALLY glad there is still a rave scene, but most of the time I feel like it's only still around so people could make money off of it. P.L.U.R. is all good yo, but I'm saying F.U.C.K. when paying $60 to get into a rave nowadays. My relationship with the 90's pretty much sums up my life, I'm always a little too late for the party, but always there in time for the tail end of it.

  • @xAtticCatx

you're not the only one my friend :/

wish I could be hitting my 2 year back in 1999 rather than 2010

  • haha i hear ya, i gotta pay 50-100 for a nice 12 hours now :/ id love to go back a decade be this age and party it up with all these ppl woo!!!

  • whats the name of that track??????

  • nice free party still prefer squats tho

  • I said the say thinks to the hippies of the 60s.

  • @monterrosa13 Epic fail!!! sorry you missed out on the scene when it was good but you must be delusional if you think the scene is better now than it was in the early 90's. I have been to parties all over the world and nowhere is as ill as it was back in the beginning!! I am still traveling around to parties You act as if none of us old schooler even go out anymore..

We passed the torch and you "yungsters" dropped it!! trust me on that!!

  • @monterrosa13 Actually you "yungsters" have lost the whole meaning and intention behind what a rave was and ruined it completely. Now its all abt how F'd up you can get.. how hard you can act to try and hit on the half naked rollin chick that can't even stand up let alone dance, it's become quite disgusting actually. Tell me how many half naked chicks you see humping some bro in this video(0). Thats because we still had respect and responsibility. Used to be PLUR*R* u lost the R's and unity imo

  • @Adeptmind well theres still some "youngsters" that still believe in PLUR. actually theres a lot but you're right theres more and more people getting into raving just cause of the x and stuff. i was only 6 when this video came out so i cant say shit

  • @ravedaily I'm more of a believer of PLARR instead of PLURR.. unity is really, even among good people, just not realistic to achieve. However Acceptance is completely achievable. Most kids just want everyone to be nice and never disagree and think that is plurr. When really disagreements with respectful conversation is how we make the world a better place for everyone. You could even keep plurr but instead of unity, change it to understanding. My 2 cents

  • @Adeptmind unfortunately i wasnt around in the days when raving was actually about plur. but i know i would've liked it a lot better. all i see now is a bunch of little kids who think dubstep is good edm. people say that raves used to be a sort of spiritual experience. i wish more than anything i couldve been around back when that was the case.

  • @MandalorianSquid Same here. While I was in middle school when raves and Trance were making their way on the airwaves, I watch this video and think, wow...

  • LOL you are freaking out of your mind if you think parties today are better than the ones 15 years ago. A better light show doesnt translate to a better party, sorry...granted, there are some kick ass parties today (Shambhala) that capture some essence of the old school vibe, but you can never recapture the moment when this was truly underground (to give you a comparison, no matter how many Woodstock concerts you throw, youll never re-live the experience of the first one).

  • I almost forgot about the whistles! Funny how they didn't seem at all intrusive back then - i guess I'm just old now : (

Nouveau ravers have all these crazy LED toys now - I yearn for the days of simple glowstix!

  • hmmmm ! house music being played at an outdoor rave !

i don't get it, i always thought house belonged in clubs. They look like they are have fun, mornings are the best !

  • Back then a lot of styles were still being played at underground events. Those were the days :)

  • So sad what parties have become. :(

Kids these days have no clue.

  • Well we cant help it, I must have been 6 when this was happening.

Alot of us know what a rave is but we don't know that it was enjoyably and not just some jerk playing sandstorm by dune while playing with glow sticks.

The closest we have to rave are the last bits of Nu rave which has become Hipster trash and other really bad indie bands that play crunk core some times.

  • Introduce yourself to the hardstyle community, well in Australia anyway. We still have bush raves, Goa trance, Hardstyle if ur more into melody mixed with bass kicks.

  • i am glad we have youtube now cuz i do partially have a clue!! haha i do wish to party like this but yea its not our fault we were much too young at this time, so i do my part in supporting local rave scenes and i understand we will probably never get this back so i just have to live with it, but yes many of us have lost all of PLUR... :'(

  • very different atmosphere than now.....nice!!

  • i love how you could totally tell this was 1997.

  • 1997 rave hahahhahaha

  • The late 80's were NOT the golden era of electronic underground. Just because it was the 'beginning' doesn't mean it was the peak. The peak of rave quality was absolutely in the late 90's, probably topping off in 1999 when the genres began to expand.

  • if youre referring to techno and house, you gotta be joking if you think the late 90s was the peak. even producers who were making music back then will tell you the late 90s was crap (dont take my word for it, search for the history of house here on youtube). that was around the same time it began to become commercialized (unless you think Venga Boys and Spice Girls is your idea of peaking). genres were expanding way before 1999, it just didnt have the exposure until later on.

  • great stuff! Anyone knows the tune around 6 mins mark?

  • Discodroids-Interspace ;) enjoy

  • @aleantonacci Thanks! :D

  • Anyone know what the dj line was for Dune II?

  • @rodster333

From what I remember, Dune line-up's always were Christopher Lawrence, Sandra Collins, Doran, and maybe Thomas Michael (Not totally sure about him)?

  • looks like dave seaman djin

  • song at the end is pretty kewl. yay trance. cool footage looks fun

  • terrible music back then huh.

  • go fuck ur mother pussy...

  • as opposed to the cool shit you listen to now you mildly retarded cocksucker? go cut yourself while listening to your hollywood undead cd you dumb twat

  • @junwylde. Calm down old man, you might pop a hip.

just becouse the music these days doesn't have whistles and crappy kicks, doesn't mean its shit

  • lol im 27 shit for brains. if u knew anything about electronic music you would know the late 80s - early 90s was the golden era for the undergound scene. Youre right, the whistles and kicks have been replaced by shitty electro basslines that have been played to death. Quit dropping so many x tabs, its affecting your taste in decent music.

  • just because you have a different opinion doesn't mean everyone elses musical tastes is 'below' you. i dont need some typical old school raver bullshit talk, the new EDM is bringing in large crowds. techno will be coming up on a second golden age here soon.

  • Learn how to fucking read the entire convo before you hit the reply button you stupid twat. EDM isnt dead, dubstep is alive and kicking, same with nu school breaks and the minimal scene, but like i said before electro and generic techno is too repetitive, why do you think dnb is dead? Typical nu school dipshit who types before thinking. Keep waiting for that second golden age, the rest of us have moved on to bigger and better things.

  • Maybe i don't feel like wasting my time reading shit typed up on youtube about an asshole like you. dubstep is fucking garbage and is all you needed to say for me to know that you really don't know what real music is lmao. maybe if you can get your head out of your ass for a few minutes you can see that the entire fucking scene is pouring with new people. but stupid people are funny, i thank you for giving me a good laugh.

  • @ Junwyld, so our defending(poorly i might add) somthing you weren't old enough to go to

  • oh fuck, nevermind..i saw your favourites and realized youre a deadmau5 fan. That's a dead giveaway your parents were related and you have no idea what good electronic music is. Sorry for the harsh words before you downie.

  • im fairly new to the electronic music scene, been a hip hop head all my life, similarily both genres have been raped w/a big black dildo wrapped in a hundred dollar bill by corporations in the U.S. but both seem alive nd kickin in U.K...so i was wit u, but that deadmau5 talk, cmon, that mans music is incredible

  • even when we had big name dj's back then ,we still danced anywhere and everywhere not just watching the dj. the music thats all it was about .

  • How much was the ticket price for this event? It seems the same as todays raves except that corporations can now make lots of moolah off this shit now

  • @lakid87 and expensive party was 20 dollars back then

  • MIss Cannabisx .. I couldn't agree more with you.. :(

    So true..

Them prices are crazy to go to rave, since the senece seems so different

  • <33333.

It breaks my heart to see what the raves have become present day.

  • (Blows whistle) DAnce dammit :D !!!

Still grooving.. kicking the dust...oh yeah

  • this looks so ghey to me now. It was fun though wandering around out there.

  • Good time when we were able to dance on the speaker now we can even touch the damn things... >: (

Sorry to say but nothing does beat the old school way baby to rave it, JAded RAvers I know I is :Pm FUCk why can it be like old times no mmoe... :(

    Iwanna cry bring back!!!

    STarts danicng!!! :D

  • Looks like it was a wicked party.. 97 was about the time or maybe a little earlier when the scene died over here in Australia. Now raves are plain shit. Still smaller underground ones tho, mainly in the bush and old warehouses.

  • i wasent at this party but thats bout rite around wen i started and hell thay wer like that in my town as well fuck i miss the good old days

  • *cry*

  • still gives me goose bumps... i went to all the dunes and moontribes also. these were our times...a coming of age, everything was new. we all learned from these parties, and transfered it into life...plur forever.

  • so cool to see these old parties on youtube, I am so glad that I really danced my ass off during these years of my life, wow i sure miss those days (wow listen to me) I went to all the Dune/MT/newmoon/fresh prduce/family parties and met alot of cool people. I hope you guys are doing well! I'm 33 years young and still have some PLUR left in me :)

  • @AbePhromanHD I really miss the old F.a.m.i.l.y. and club soda parties

  • ç_ç I cannot find this track called "the show" . is there anyone who can send it to me with mediafire?

  • it was only released on vinyl....there are a couple sites where u can buy a shity recording of it taken from the vinyl but thats it

  • Hi guys... Doran here. I recently got an email from djbobdjagevents asking about the track in this video and, since a few other people seemed interested in it, I thought I'd reply here.

It's called "The Show" by Discodroids (Peter Nijborn & Ferry Corsten) and it came out on Tremolo Records (cat#: TRE2004) in 1996. Silly fun party music... ya gotta love it.

Anyway, the Dune parties were pretty amazing and this was a nice little trip down memory lane.

I hope everyone is doing well.

  • thank you so much for the track title! ive been trying to find out what it is for months now!

  • i knew that was you on the deck! i always liked your sets and even bought your cd monuments a long time ago. thank you!

  • I was at this party. That's Doran on the decks. I see Mike Fix and a few other old friends. And I think I just saw myself! I was certainly out on that floor at dawn!

Nothing ... *NOTHING* ... was better than these parties! By contrast, today's raves feel more like you're partying in a prison yard full of middle-school students, surrounded by watchful prison guards.

    The freedom was so beautiful.

Dangerous at times, but that was part of the beauty; that's part of freedom.

  • Nice last words there

  • Hey...not all of us were born waaaaaaay back in the day to experience the lift off of the rave scene. You should be happy generations are still trying to keep it going today.

  • listen redemption

we all partyed hard in the old days so you will never experience what it was actaully all about even though you just might have been a glint in youre daddys eye lmao

we partyed like you will never experience

so shut the fek up and enjoy our memories lol

  • I beg to differ.

  • @redemption136 party on young brother!! get a pair of decks and DIY like your predecessors. it only takes some passionate people to make some special happen. ps start by boycotting commercial missive's like together as one

  • very well said

  • Yes, these still happen. But except for the most famous crew, MT, they're teeny-tiny, and usually promoted by word-of-mouth only. I was at one about 3 months ago.

  • I spotted myself several times in this video! Damn I miss California and the desert :)

  • EVERYONE.....we need to find out what the name of this song is......who is spinning ? one of you guys that said u were at this party must know........

  • It's Doran spinning, but I don't know what the track is.
