Raul annoys me. Why the heck doesn't he believe her? DEAD people are falling from the ceiling for pete's sake, and he's all 'oh, its your imagination, your dreaming this...." eeejit!!!!! If he thinks she is that stupid and delusional, why the heck does he like her?????

They were known for making up stories about the Phantom. They believed he had a 'death's head' and could manipulate fire and a whole bunch of other things
@lunahare2200 Yah I know that, I have read the book and have seen the play and movie many times, I just don't get why he doesn't have a little faith in her. I LoVE the Phantom of the Opera!!! And Christine is a true Angel of Music!!! Kind of pisses me off though how one minute she's swooning over mister dark, sexy and complicated Phantom then falling for sweet, kind and light Raoull or whatever his name is. Can't really blame her thought i mean both men are drop dead gorgeous!!! -3 Minus the scar on half of the Phantom's face of course, but personally I always had a thing for facial scars ;) it really isn't that bad though. I love Raul's voice but the phantom's is just a bit better. I love this piece. Christine sounds beautiful at 1:57-2:13. Is she saying sing or soar though?
Please dear Angel of Music...Can you give me a voice like Christine has...Because it's really wonderful, every time i hear her i almost start crying...you made a real angel of her... But i wanna be an angel to. Can you help me?
@ZeldaGiygasLord603 Mostly the first, I think. It's pretty obvious that there's a killer around, but he's trying to convince her that it wasn't some ghost, and try to make her feel better by saying he won't hurt her.
Her father died when she was 7 and Raul and she had been friends before that. It is implied that they had no contact until they met again. At 7 years, you have the capacity to remember thing more fully; not saying that ALL teens remember their long lost friends, but it can happen. It is possible to have retained a mutual affection for the other, but for it to develop as a romance so quickly is unlikely as sexual desires didn't develop so young in those days. In short; Raul wanna tap that.
Check my cover out if you would please guys! Let me know what you think :) hope I did it justice! Sorry its a bit out of sink.. still... I hope its a good listen! :D

@Artemisss1 well he sort of did because ( like i said ) the phantom knew christine before that little twinkle toes did. and christine is so cute beside the phantom that its RIDICULOUS! Roul is a douche. PHANTOM4EVER!
@flippofem no actually this makes perfect sense. he was the only one who actually didn't belive in the whole ''Phantom'' thing. he says ''There is no PHANTOM of the Opera'' and then ''My God, who is this MAN''
@lambertloveification this is a quote from the book where Phantom's face looked like a skull. no nose, parchment yellow skin, red eyes and too skinny.
@rozepoze2000: Well, Raul's right, you know: There IS no "phantom" of the Opera; Eric is just a human being. What he's saying is that there's no such thing as ghosts or phantoms. He wants to figure out who it is, and wants her to stop panicking and giving associating him with powers he doesn't have. He's just a man--a very dangerous man, but just a man--and Raul wants her to realize that. Hope that clears it up a bit, because the first time I heard that line I thought the same thing. XD
@rozepoze2000 He means maybe there's some other man manipulating Christine, a real human--in the book he assumes the Phantom is some ghost story--who is telling her is the Phantom for God knows what reason. 'My God, who is telling her these things? who's trying to get at her like that?"
You know what I just realized? Raul was following Christine the whole time and walked behind her the whole way, even up the single file staircase... so how does he end up in front of her on the roof and why?
Umm... Erik (phantom) just killed a man. He's not just deformed (which, by the way, is MUCH scarier in the book) he's obessisve, dangerous, and freaking psychotic. Yes, he has a sad story, no, it's not his fault, and yes, he deserves to be pitied. But realistically, would YOU marry a psychotic murderer who has a dark obsession with you?? I'm not saying Raoul's perfect in any way, but he is a MUCH better choice than Erik. At least he's not a murderer.
@RedRosesLast4eva i didnt say you did. i replied because I wanted too. Atleast Raoul doesnt stalk her, force her into a relationship, or KILLS people who happen to be in his way.
@sugarlipz96 Actually, you are grasping at straws here. He didn't force her to do anything until she brutally exposed him when he was declaring his love. Raoul doesn't even know her. This is the equivalent of seeing a hot chick and saying "I want to tap that." in the 19th century. Also, Raoul was actually NOT outcast and NOT forced to live alone his entire life, so saying he won't kill anyone is like saying Eric won't be financially protecting the opera. In other words: irrelevant.
@Iced1992 U dont understand what I'm saying. They have known each other for a long time. He didnt just see her and decide he was in love with her. He was in love with her b4
@Iced1992 You clearly aren't paying attention to the movie. There is a whole scene in which Raul recalls ALL THEIR ADVENTURES as children together right in front of Christine in her dressing room. Or perhaps directly after she does her solo "Think of Me" that he sings "Can it be? Can it be Christine?" as in... "Is that the girl who used to be my best friend". They, until Christine's fathers death, practically grew up together. I don't see how they could be "Acquaintances" with that evidence.
@broadwaynerd99 Naw they were just kids playing at the beach,BUT Christine and Raul Never forgot each other.
So they saw something special in each other as kids. Read the book it's there there was a relationship between the parents, enough so the kides were allowed to socialize together.
dont wanna be a hater but christine has no backbone,
i mean i thought i was judgemental but saying his face is distorted that was just plain hurtful, shes beautiful and sings amazingly but i like the phantom more than any of them
@effeweewetoob Personally, I could put aside the face, but it's the 'creepy stalker' factor that makes me dislike the Phantom; there's something wrong with a guy who pretends to be his love interest's dead father, even before you factor in the murders...
@MarcusSLazarus Agreed. But I feel like people were so mean to him and mistreated him, which is what drove him (at least in part) to such creepy and awful behavior. Even as a child, he was severely ostracized and abused.
@effeweewetoob Past abuse only excuses behaviour to a point, and killing people just because they HAPPENED to see him when he could easily just vanish and make them think they were mad is definitely pushing it
And also he is completly scilent when she is saying that the phantom is scary, and pointing out his flaws........ its only when he realises that the phantom is better than him that he starts being all " the phantom is not real ".
@moonblaze1000 Thought she was nice in the 1990 version until the stupid girl saw Erik's face and FAINTED! I mean that's just RUDE! Sure she tried to make up for it later but that was still a terrible thing to do!
OMFG I hate Raoul! He thought Christine was a crazy woman. He always thought that she was dreaming, and he never believed her until he almost died! like, FTW.
I think part of the phantoms attraction to her is that she is a loner. Granted, hearing voices for years and being unable to healthily grieve for your father will do that to you. Raoul is so painfully normal in this scene " lets go to dinner, baby" and she responds with a whole batch of crazy. He actually humors her pretty well, I feel that if the phantom hadnt been trying to kidnap and terrorize Christine ( or have sex with her) raoul wouldnt have minded him coming over for brunch now and again
but his voice filled my spirit with a strange sweet sound in the night there was music in my mind, and through music my soul began to soar and I heard as I've never heard before... yet in his eyes all the sadness of the world, those pleading eyes that both threaten and adore... she belongs to Erick
i wonder if, whilst Andrew Lloyd Webber was writing this musical, if he had any idea how big it would be.. As well as Cat's and everything else he's ever done. I wonder if when he was writing his first ever musical he had ANY idea how huge and successful he would be.
I don't really like Raoul. I think this part of the movie really shows his and Christine 's relationship for what it is.
She tells him that she's met the Phantom before, and she goes out of her way to get him to safety, only for him to dismiss everything she says as just her dreaming XD. There's something wrong with that to me,a it really shows that he doesn't value her quite as much as he let on... he doesn't respect her mentally :o
He did just meet her again after an eleven year hiatus and she's not saying, "hey, a guy came out my mirror and dragged me down the lake." I love Christine but she does sound a tad crazy. He probably assumed that if there really were a threat, she would want to leave immediately. It could be that I'm pissed at the movie for removing the phantom's mystery and immediately making him a man...but I don't think Raoul devalues Christine, he's just not so smart under all that fluffy hair
haha 0:54 "There is no phantom of the opera" and then Christine starts singing "Raoul, I've been there" and at 1:07 his face just goes "....oh. duhhh" that always gives me a little chuckle.
"There is no Phantom of the Opera." Raoul you idiot! She goes missing for an entire day, notes keep appearing, Carlotta's throat spritz is switched on her, Buquet is murdered, and Christine keeps insisting that she's seen him. WHY DON'T YOU BELIEVE HER?! And you say you love her...indeed. Christine, move somewhere else by yourself and change your name. Both Raoul's an idiot and Erik is psycotic. Get out while you can...
I would have loved it if when the Phantom was trying to kill Raoul at the end he said, "There is no Phantom of the Opera, indeed, bitch," in is Gerard accent.
I love POTO. This is a beautiful song and all, but Raoul's retarted comments kill it. PHANTOM IS RIGHT THERE RETARD! There have been so many things happening right in front of you, your fiance is scared as heck, and you refuse to believe the Phantom exists?
Raul is soooo freaking stupid. Did he not just see a man get hung? Or hear the booming voice in the theatre? Or read any of the letters? "There is no phatom of the opera.". Where has he been the past few days?! Wow..
Raoul is a raging idiot. "There is no phantom of the opera." Did you not just see him hang someone from the rafters, YOU USELESS PRAT. I cannot stand Raoul. I mean, Christine exaggerated some things, but that can be attributed to being frightened out of her mind. Raoul just staunchly refuses to believe the evidence that was put on a platter and served up to him.
@bananas1and2 Roul annoys me too. he's all knight-in-the-shining-armour kind of guy. but when he says ''There is no Phantom of the Opera'' he means there is no ghost and Phantom is in fact a man.
This is why I do not like Raoul. He keeps telling Christine that there is no Phantom, even though she went missing for a day and she tells him that she was kidnapped, and the strange letters, AND the killings! Raoul himself even heard a man's voice in Christine's room before she was taken! What?! Did he think she was practicing ventriloquism or something?! *Sigh*
If I were Christine, I say go for the Phantom.
So, sorry if you like Raoul, but I just don't like him.
@Indyfilms123 Look I think Raoul is a fop really. but he and Christine make a good couple. I mean Christine needs someone to protect her from the Darkness. Erik IS the darkness (that sounded cheezy xD) Erik needs someone who apriciates (sp?) his talent and his music *dreamy sigh*
@Indyfilms123 just letting you know, the Phantom in the original novel is not like the phantom in this rendition. He is a scary spectacle to look at. But for this rendition. i agree
@Indyfilms123 He is saying that the PHANTOM doesn't exist, that the one behind the mask is just a man, not some allpowerful, all knowing "phantom" or dark angel, which is what she believes. Remember Christine has been brainwashed since childhood by him. She see's him as something larger than life. Remember the "angel of music" she said comes to her? The phantom had her convinced he was her "angel".
@dimondfly101 no actually she did well when she run off with Raoul. she would never be able to love Erik. she wanted a ''normal'' life. you know, Money,a classicaly handsome husband, social status. You get the point. Erik needed someone to love him for who he was and Christie would never be able to give him that.
I think that Christine is confused about the Phantom since he killed a man just for mocking him; it's not just the face. I also don't think that she fell for him just for her face. She felt a connection since he had been teaching her how to sing and was linked to her father.
@lafleurquicache Buquet had it coming!! he was mocking the Phantom and he had seen Erik changing Carlotta's throat liquid thingy. you can't expect a man that was treated horribly all his life to have the same thinking as we do and value the life of a stage hand over his. He was just looking after himself. If buquet had told the Police where Erik was hiding they would arrest him or worse.
I'm not much into pairings for this movie, but ERIK IS MY LOVER.
Raoul is a pansy (in my eyes) and Christine's kind of a brat (again, in my eyes) and she's just as "weird" as Erik. She's the one who fell in love with his voice and that was the only reasons she seemed like she loved him. I understand he didn't show his face but still she fell in love with the idea of him.
@hippocrit1234 let's put Christine and Raoul in a bag and throw them into a river. then we can fight till death about wich one of us will take Erik =) Deal?
Honestly, Christine made some really bad choices here. First of all, the Phantom gave her something really special and she hates him because....his face isn't perfect. Right. Because that's such a problem. Also, she says she loves Raoul after what...two days of him being in town? After a few 20 years of him being gone? What, no letters or singing telegrams?
Otherwise, the best part about this play is the music. Never can get the songs outta my head. =)
@sorakey44 She doesn't hate him because he's deformed. He's been lying to her for the whole time she's known him. Also, he just killed a man pretty much for fun. She's loved Raoul since she was a child, and the span has only been about 10 years in the actual opera. She doesn't hate the phantom at all... she loves the idea of who she thought he was and can't except who he's shown himself to be, ie. a murderer, stalker, possibly crazy. I get her hesitation.
@plansforus I know where you're coming from. Yeah, maybe he's waiting for the nice men in their clean white coats to take him away hoho hehe haha, but I honestly think they should've messed up his face more if she was going to freak out that much. Maybe have an open gash or something. She seemed to just focus on it.
I didn't get the vibe that she'd loved him in childhood. Maybe really close friends and all, but not love. Meh, just my take.
Raoul is fineeeeeeeeeeee. -opera voice-

Fullmetal964 5 months ago 3
@broadwaynerd99 Naw they were just kids playing at the beach,BUT Christine and Raul Never forgot each other.
So they saw something special in each other as kids. Read the book it's there there was a relationship between the parents, enough so the kides were allowed to socialize together.

dont wanna be a hater but christine has no backbone,
i mean i thought i was judgemental but saying his face is distorted that was just plain hurtful, shes beautiful and sings amazingly but i like the phantom more than any of them
... but then again its just a movie :)

Poor Phantom. I mean, his face is disfigured. Not that big a deal.
effeweewetoob 9 months ago 5
@effeweewetoob Personally, I could put aside the face, but it's the 'creepy stalker' factor that makes me dislike the Phantom; there's something wrong with a guy who pretends to be his love interest's dead father, even before you factor in the murders...
MarcusSLazarus 8 months ago
@MarcusSLazarus Agreed. But I feel like people were so mean to him and mistreated him, which is what drove him (at least in part) to such creepy and awful behavior. Even as a child, he was severely ostracized and abused.
effeweewetoob 8 months ago
@effeweewetoob Past abuse only excuses behaviour to a point, and killing people just because they HAPPENED to see him when he could easily just vanish and make them think they were mad is definitely pushing it

And also he is completly scilent when she is saying that the phantom is scary, and pointing out his flaws........ its only when he realises that the phantom is better than him that he starts being all " the phantom is not real ".

Raoul is good looking but I prefer the Phantom, sorry Raoul
Eleanorminblack 9 months ago 5
I think part of the phantoms attraction to her is that she is a loner. Granted, hearing voices for years and being unable to healthily grieve for your father will do that to you. Raoul is so painfully normal in this scene " lets go to dinner, baby" and she responds with a whole batch of crazy. He actually humors her pretty well, I feel that if the phantom hadnt been trying to kidnap and terrorize Christine ( or have sex with her) raoul wouldnt have minded him coming over for brunch now and again

:/ meh~
I don't really like Raoul. I think this part of the movie really shows his and Christine 's relationship for what it is.
She tells him that she's met the Phantom before, and she goes out of her way to get him to safety, only for him to dismiss everything she says as just her dreaming XD. There's something wrong with that to me,a it really shows that he doesn't value her quite as much as he let on... he doesn't respect her mentally :o
puffygirl300 10 months ago
He did just meet her again after an eleven year hiatus and she's not saying, "hey, a guy came out my mirror and dragged me down the lake." I love Christine but she does sound a tad crazy. He probably assumed that if there really were a threat, she would want to leave immediately. It could be that I'm pissed at the movie for removing the phantom's mystery and immediately making him a man...but I don't think Raoul devalues Christine, he's just not so smart under all that fluffy hair

Raoul is a raging idiot. "There is no phantom of the opera." Did you not just see him hang someone from the rafters, YOU USELESS PRAT. I cannot stand Raoul. I mean, Christine exaggerated some things, but that can be attributed to being frightened out of her mind. Raoul just staunchly refuses to believe the evidence that was put on a platter and served up to him.
bananas1and2 1 year ago 14

Indyfilms123 1 year ago 97
@Indyfilms123 Look I think Raoul is a fop really. but he and Christine make a good couple. I mean Christine needs someone to protect her from the Darkness. Erik IS the darkness (that sounded cheezy xD) Erik needs someone who apriciates (sp?) his talent and his music *dreamy sigh*
SweetDeath777 1 year ago 4
@Indyfilms123 just letting you know, the Phantom in the original novel is not like the phantom in this rendition. He is a scary spectacle to look at. But for this rendition. i agree
AWmarchingsax 9 months ago
@AWmarchingsax I've never gotten the chance to read the book, what did he look like?
farmerboy245 7 months ago
@Indyfilms123 He is saying that the PHANTOM doesn't exist, that the one behind the mask is just a man, not some allpowerful, all knowing "phantom" or dark angel, which is what she believes. Remember Christine has been brainwashed since childhood by him. She see's him as something larger than life. Remember the "angel of music" she said comes to her? The phantom had her convinced he was her "angel".

@Indyfilms123 THANK YOU MY GOD FANILY SOMEONE ELSE BELIEVES SHE SHOULD GO WITH THE PHANTOM HE IS MORE SEXY XDD
dimondfly101 7 months ago
@dimondfly101 no actually she did well when she run off with Raoul. she would never be able to love Erik. she wanted a ''normal'' life. you know, Money,a classicaly handsome husband, social status. You get the point. Erik needed someone to love him for who he was and Christie would never be able to give him that.

I think that Christine is confused about the Phantom since he killed a man just for mocking him; it's not just the face. I also don't think that she fell for him just for her face. She felt a connection since he had been teaching her how to sing and was linked to her father.
lafleurquicache 1 year ago
@lafleurquicache Buquet had it coming!! he was mocking the Phantom and he had seen Erik changing Carlotta's throat liquid thingy. you can't expect a man that was treated horribly all his life to have the same thinking as we do and value the life of a stage hand over his. He was just looking after himself. If buquet had told the Police where Erik was hiding they would arrest him or worse.
SweetDeath777 1 year ago
i dont know why she says his face is so hidious....well in this movie he does not look scary but the book makes such a creepier description
lovelynightbird 1 year ago
I'm not much into pairings for this movie, but ERIK IS MY LOVER.
Raoul is a pansy (in my eyes) and Christine's kind of a brat (again, in my eyes) and she's just as "weird" as Erik. She's the one who fell in love with his voice and that was the only reasons she seemed like she loved him. I understand he didn't show his face but still she fell in love with the idea of him.
She just bugs me XD

Honestly, Christine made some really bad choices here. First of all, the Phantom gave her something really special and she hates him because....his face isn't perfect. Right. Because that's such a problem. Also, she says she loves Raoul after what...two days of him being in town? After a few 20 years of him being gone? What, no letters or singing telegrams?
Otherwise, the best part about this play is the music. Never can get the songs outta my head. =)
sorakey44 1 year ago
