Ok, we all know the battle was real, the facts hold this to be true. How accurate the facts are over time may be disputed, We who have the Hellenic blood are proude of our history, so are the Persians, and their records match the greek record, also they honour the 300 as they repect the warriors they were. this comes from a friend who was Iraqi resistance. So if none of your ancestors had anything to do with it......Shut your pie-hole!!!
I have been following these pride fanatics who came out since 2007 when 300 was released and your comment was the best in all these years. Thank you. Bravo.
I think the problem that a lot of people had with "300" was how it made the Persians look like they were effeminate, even homosexual, even as Spartan Pederasty has become a byword in history.
there were 1000 arcadians (thespieis), 300 spartans , 80
Myceneans. The Spartans didn't go to die but to hold off a bit because the main army from sparta couldn't go to battle there was no full moon yet. Then Leonidas was trapped and chose death than surrender overwhelmed by numbers. So proud to be greek!
obviously u havent done ur history mate. sparta was the only city in greece that were fighters. exept a few arcadians.....it was 300....have u been to the grave site in Thermopolae? i have, and its all written their mate....
I love this song and I like the Greeks. The Greeks & the Persian always viewed one-another with respect. The movie 300 tried to turn people against Persian as part of an immense propaganda to prepare the world for an attack on Iran.
It's not propaganda, it was simply based on a comic book based on a true story, and solely made to profit those who made it. Nobody was trying to do any of that modern propaganda stuff, they were just trying to exploit history by biasing it.
well yes bur see the spartans sent them back and they left and they remaned to fight the persians so dont say stuff because your right but only half right
TELEIO...den mou les...to kommati einai o Zorbas, alla pia version..?? Apo pou tin exeis, akougetai poiotika poly kaly kai kainouria (to beat sto telos)...;-)
I too enjoy the comments. I don't see this video or mine as anything more than entertainment. I love the music; I love the imagery. There is no political statement being made here. In any case the battle of Thermopylae was 2,500 years ago. Let it go.
oh my god I'm sorry for your stupidity. You'll die without learning your real history or you are pretending to be Macedonian. Actually you ve never really been alive. Goethe said 'the ones that have no knowledge of their history are not living, but they 're just jumping from day to day'
@aeonflux67: hey how 'bout trying again for comment about what danbasheri said (not who he is) minus the swearing and the name calling. Your last one will have to go. My mommie reads this page and you wouldn't talk like that in front of her, would you?
the good Greek people this movie was made by the American people and the persians will not let it break apart the friendshipe between us. but please realize that Persian wars did not happen like so, and if it was only a comic book than thousands of idiotic people who keep cliaming that it was based on reality should shut the hell up and learn some facts.
@simosman20: have a frape and chill dude, it's called a parody. It's a Greek word, look it up.
The movie 300 (which is what I commented on) is based on a comic book, which I read (ok I only looked at pictures) at the library. The director even admited it, and believe me those creative types don't like to share credit with anyone if they can help it.
@everyone else: lets have an ouzo/raki/grappa and say opa! And smash some plates for good luck. Or is that illegal nowdays?
@mousakas: allow me to translate for the English-speaking world: hahaha brother, you forgot the mousaka and the tzatziki. But it's a good one.
@macedonianchorba: I did not know that! BTW the book Zorba the Greek, is filed under Fiction in my public library. So hey feel free to take creative licence and make of it what you will.

I think a Greek salad has more in common with an ancient Spartan than you do.
I mean really, that's like saying you're related to Spiderman because you live in New York.
"We who have Hellenic blood" Ha ha...
No offence, but come on mate. Who are you kidding?

Not to menton that 300 was not the real number of soldiers. it was 1000. 300 from Sparta and 700 from other states/cities.
JimmyTheGreek2000 3 years ago
no!
at first they were 1000 but then in the fight the 700 from the other citied left!
and only the 300 spartians fight and died!

It's based on a comic book called "300" :P why should they bother making it factual? go watch discovery channel if you want that.
The story of the 300 is true...just not the way its depicted :P I thought it was a very entertaining film.

300 is based off the battle of thermopylae.
cept it wasnt only 300 warriors.
it was 300 spartans .. other soldiers helped.
it was somewhere around 5,200 soldiers.
but they still fought a significant amount of persians
