  • wow, that's amazing!

  • That horse is beautiful. He moves like I imagine a war horse to move :P

  • 1:33 worlds smallest barrel race lol

  • My God that was amazing.

  • The Spaniards are such amazing horsemen......!

  • @BridgetKroger

as said before. the rider is portuguese, the horse is portuguese. means: from portugal. not from spain.

    big big difference. ;)

  • Now thats what i call AGILITY

  • He couldn't have done it any better than that!

  • Now that is a connection!

  • Thank you for posting! This is a fine specimen of the breed. :) I'm so glad more and more people are becoming acquainted with Lusitanos and what exactly they are capable of doing.

  • @violiner2000 As long as they don't do it in the arena I'm ok with it. And it also looks like the rider doesn't use those huge spurs.

  • Very nice to see.A big horse yet sow agile..

  • @jessthark

the horse is actually just 158 cm i think. The best WE horse are not big.

  • @lykkebianca im comparing to a quarterhorse i ride western, sow to see tehse lusitano's move this way is amazing specialy cause they are heavier build and most time's bigger

  • my gray horse and I should be half as good......

  • Ok...First SPANISH I saw riding a horse that was actually not abusive! I give em props

  • @katieskritterskorner

Not spanish either ;) portuguese - from Portugal. Another country. A big difference. Horse is not spanish either - Lusitano is a portuguese breed.

  • @lykkebianca huh, well apologize then. See people can learn something new everyday. Forgive my iggnorance lol. He is still a good rider though I wasnt being sarcastic

  • @lykkebianca haha poor katieskritterskorner you can't win lol

  • @kristinbaylis

well thats ok- she got it eventually.the horse and rider is portuguese ;). I know U americans think europe is just one big unity, but there is actually a very big difference of culture between countries - even countries close as Spain and Portugal. The riding culture and the horse type og those 2 countries was seperated more than 300 years ago (actually much earlier) because of what work they where supposed to do.

But fair enough-im not sharp at your history either..;)

  • @katieskritterskorner Spanish equestrians were once considered the finest in the world. Being a vaquero was the ultimate for a horseman. Look at this riders balance and posture. He is truly one with his horse.

  • @Meredith25600 I am aware of that and I never said he wasnt an awesome rider and it that it wasnt a good ride. I just don't respect how aggressive some nationalties are with there animals. I live in Texas I have seen ALOT of mistreated horses being ridden rought by not only white people and I am sure it happens everywhere but I do not like how abunch of mexicans train there horses or ride them...some people are just iggnorant

  • @katieskritterskorner Do you know that only in the area of Houston 7000 (!!!) horses are being rescued every year? How the hell is that possible? Here we get questions by the government when several horses are being rescued at the same time. And it's all over the newspapers.

  • Very impressive

  • First mexican I saw riding a horse that was actually not abusive! I give em props

  • @katieskritterskorner

he is not mexiacan. he is from portugal.

  • wow great riding!

i wouldn't even remember which way i next have to go :D

  • Those flying lead changes are to die for <3 GREAT video!!!

  • @mmac97 If you watch closely you will notice that some times he change late in the rear.

  • WOOWWWW!!!!

  • Cool as hell! great horsemanship!

  • Awesome eqitation and soooooooooo much fun...love it. Wish it was me. So good with his body and subtle movements...his horse sooooo tuned in to him too.

  • Amazing! and Beautifull horse!

  • The horse looks like he is dancing a ballet! Spectacular!

  • This is really amazing, it seems so easy and the rider and horse really work together. The horse thinks:'What should I do know boss?' He really helps by thinking and trying to do the right thing. I love it.

  • Awesome!!!

  • Freakin' WOW!

Could maybe, maybe get my horse to do that at a walk.

  • Well done!!

Come train my horse! She will NOT use her hindquarters!

  • i am in LOVE with this horse!

  • WOW that's amazing! So cool! I had my first WE lession at my riding school last wednesday, we did it all in walk, and I thought that was pretty hard! This is... OMG! Someday I wanna be as good as him 8'D <3

  • Wow that looks like fun!

  • amazing!!!

  • My friend rode Oxidado and says he rides like a dream. Pedro gave her dressage tips too :)

  • amazing

  • fantastico!!!

  • Wow!! Great horsemanship!!

  • Unbelievable. So amazing I won't let my horses watch or they'll have self-esteem issues! Beautifully done.

  • @IronwoodLeather Hahaha!! This comment made my day :)

I'm not going to let my horse watch this either! Don't want to shatter the inflated ego trip he's always on :)

  • that horse is amazing!!!!

  • That is what I a working towards hah ok so I need a little help here please

  • OMG where can I learn this! That was brilliant!

  • It's like games mixed with barrel racing

  • Yes, IALHA has Working Equitation! Check out more on Facebook, IALHA

    Also at the IALHA Nationals!

  • the best horse-riding i've ever seen! amazing! i could watch this 5000 times and would still be stunned!!!

  • I have a quarter mare who's brother is my soulmate and has been with me for 13 years and I origianally wanted to breed her to an Andalusian and looked at the Lusitano as well and immediately fell in love with their versatility and looks and now I think I want to breed her to a Lusitano. I got the Horse of Kings magazine and that pointed me towards Lusitano. This video is AMAZING. I love their body, movements, everything. WOW.

  • Just Beautiful!!!!

  • Wow. This is the first exhibition work I have ever seen that looks like a real working cow horse. The quarter horses in US have been wrecked by the show breeders. Couldn't work a cow to save their life. So happy I have a Spanish Mustang/Andalusian cross - he can do anything!

  • SO COOL!!!

  • WOW is all I can say!!

  • I want one :)

  • AWESOME!! This looks like SOOO much fun!!!

  • wow amazing wish they had something like this in the states or something similar

  • Most intelligent horse on the world, the Lusitano!

  • @ViAzula I don´t think you can call one horsebreed more intelligent than an other, every horse have an individual charakter and so individual intelligents, like we human have. In my opinion a horse with a strong charakter and will is more intelligent than an horse who does everything what is called from him/her. Of course you can train your horse better when its not challenged your idias of riding, but I like it when they do it, makes more fun at riding.

  • I have an Arab who would have been fantastic at this sort of thing ... we are both a tad old now, LOL GREAT CLIP. thank you for posting

  • IALHA had it for the first time at 2010 Nationals in Fort Worth.

  • That is the coolest thing ive ever seen!!

  • This is amazing! Amzing for the horse too, he looks so dam well concentrated, what a great gymnastic, the rider is bloody fanstastic too!

  • I could probably have done that when I was 9. Now, I am WAY out of practice. Fantastic performance!

  • Why do I feel that this horse would be absolutely KICK ASS at dressage? (:

  • @EquitationChampion because what you're looking at is dressage. Look at the balance of the horse and rider. Look at the muscling of the horse. It's dressage - just not in a sand arena.

  • I am jealous of his clean flying changes...

  • wow... I'm stunned... this is just totally amazing and... still I don't know what to say... WOW

  • AMAZING! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW

  • this makes me want to get up from the computer and go ride my horse!

  • Wow!!! Something to aspire to!

  • Wow now thats a horse.

  • what a fabulous horse!

  • Wow, looks to much fun! Makes our rubbish "trec" look rather boring...!!

  • I love the Lusitano. The breed came to existence to be used in the battle field. The classical dressage sport is just pretty talk for training war horses.

  • @passingbynight The Lusitanos were/are used in bull fightings too

  • @crazzyjesus Yes, most if not all of the famous riders like Joao Ribeiro Telles are Lusitano horse breeders. But you know that so I'll quit pointing out the obvious :-)

  • Damn that was great!

  • Incredible! This rider and horse are a fantastic team! I will look into this in Canada.. looks similar to Jeopardy Trail but much more difficult with more maneuvers! Excellent! :)

  • Ya, this i call RIDING! Classical dressage at its best practical use... And all the so-called "dressage" riders can go somewhere - they are just horse-destroying puppets! This is a true art! ;-)

  • i can watch this over and over again! The horses self carriage is very good and the rider did a great job too! :)

  • I think that my mules would be outstanding in this sport:-)

  • that was cool

  • Lol It was like barrels, poles, jumping and a keyhole combined-only better. Awesome

  • wow its like all the gymkhana events all in one. we gotta do thishere in cali!

  • dressage will be pointless now since the horse has been trained to do this!!

  • @rodeogirl141 Uhh, no it wont.

  • In all fairness, impressive: both the horse and rider are supreme! I am a rider myself and humble enough to say, that I wish I would be capable of developing such a unique "Centaurous" bond with a horse, congratulations, many hours, training, and talent wow!!!!!the Lusitanos!!!

  • Wow!

  • the horse is better than the ridder the horse allways makes the ridder much better evey day they rid :):):) the ridder was still good !!!!!!!

  • very nice !

  • Nice speed test!

  • WOW! What a horse! looks like a fun ride..

  • Fabulous!

  • Now that is some impressive riding. How ever do you manage to remember the course?!?!

  • WOW. Amazing horse, amazing rider :0)

  • wow, this is a lot fancyer than the working equitation where i go! :P nobody bothers with looking smart there :D

  • that's soo cool!! ive never seen something like this before!!

  • Woooow!!!!!!

  • What is the name of the first song?

  • Zumba on horseback!

  • What kind of bits do they typically use in this riding, and for different levels of it? Not here to say they are being abusive if they use curbs, I'd say it's even more incredible then.

  • @Kedgirl at the "basic" level they use a normal snaffle. And in the "higher" levels, like this the use a Crub.

In this way is this "kind of riding" very similar to western.

  • So, did he win? He was so fast!

  • Awesome display of horsemanship - just great to watch!

  • WOW! Amazing horse and rider. Looks like FUN!

  • I've been there and ridden the horses and I can assure you they are not dangerous and we do hack out. They have the best nature of any stallions I have ever delt with.

  • OOO that looks like fun, wish they had that kind of show here!!

  • That was amazing, takes a horse and rider real trust to get past some of those objects! :)

  • What an amazing display of horesmanship!

  • Magnífico cavalo

  • where can i get one of those??? my andalucian mare doesnt act like that ....

  • wow awesome horse and awesome rider! very cool :)

just wondering does this comp require riders to ride with one hand?

he was very good anyway :) cool video

  • @georgiabates Andalusians and Lusitanos are ridden in curb bits when they finish their training, with the left hand, (when rider is right handed) so that they can do the Garocha (long pole rider picked up and stabbed at bull with), the other hand is to lie quietly on the right thigh when not being used for something.

  • @bonnie448 cool thanks for that :) As you can imagine this kind of riding isn't seen in Australia haha

  • @georgiabates Yes it is. Ive done it but not at anywhere near that level.

  • @Peppermint0598 really? cool well i've never seen or heard of it in Aus. where abouts have you done it? :)

  • @georgiabates At a small random comp in Waikerie SA. However, they didnt hold it again this year. :(

  • @Peppermint0598 ah ok, well im in Vic so haven't seen it around here, there has recently been some discussion about it on VicHorse Forum though so maybe it is becoming more popular which would be cool

  • lovely.

  • This is ridiculously amazing! Fantastic!

Wish they had this in the States, it looks like a blast to do.

  • maybe you have it already. try contact the IALHA and ask. if not it is easy: just make a clinic and have a trainer come. But i actually think you have it.

  • @TheDixieDolphin We have something very similar. It's called the Extreme Cowboy Race, but it is for women and men on every breed of horse, with different divisions.

  • @CaliforniaBlonde000

this sport is also for both men and women and all breeds - but this video is from portugal where mostly men ride on their national horse - the lusitano. and as stallions. in other countries it is ridden on all breeds - also cold bloods and ponys. WE is also divided into 3 ( or 4) divisons that each equipage has to do. a dressage test, a meneability test and a speed test. and then an optional cow test.

  • @lykkebianca Sounds very cool. This sport seems to have more of a working base than the Extreme Cowboy Race. I love it! Maybe I should visit Portugal! :)

  • No. The IALHA DOES have it. Search for youtube videos from the 2010 National Show. We had all three phases of it.

  • @TheDixieDolphin They just brought it into the States. Check out wwwdotworkingequitationusadotcom So far it is only on the East coast though. I am one (of a few I would imagine) that is trying to bring it over to the West Coast. :) Also, Extreme Cowboy race isn't quite like this. This requires more agility whereas the Extreme Cowboy race you can do more at flat speeds. It doesn't require the agility needed from the horse nor the finesse.

  • one word...

    Amazing

  • Well ridden. Very impressive and awesome pair :)

  • What a cool event. It's like agility for horses!

  • That looks like so much fun. LOTS of training goes into that. What a great team, that horse and rider are!

Nags2bitches, I ride western too, but it doesn't have to be dreadfully slow (unless you do pleasure). I compete in team penning, barrels, poles, gymkhana and obstacle courses. I trail ride for fun. My horse can slow it down when I want her to, but we never go that slow. Western can be lots of fun.

  • ommggg this looks like sooo much fun but verrry hard

    well great vid

i subbed subb back plz :)

  • I can't get past how the horse responds so well when the rider is barely touching him with his leg aids. I want my horses to do that. lol

    Amazing job.

  • that's amazing, what a great pair!

  • Never seen something like this before! I m real fascinated!

  • well - if you are from Germany you should know thisport. There is some very good competitions in germany - top level and international. And i think you might have a team also. There is a big international competition in germany real soon. Sponsored by Bentaiga.

  • Yes, I am from Germany but very new in classic dressage. Till now im riding western. Thanks a lot for your nice answer :o)

  • Comment removed

  • Hi, does anyone know what the music is on the video?

    Thanks

  • Amazing horse and rider, well done.

  • nags2bitches, we do have this in the UK- we have our own WE team, and in fact in 2007 we hosted the EU WE champs at Hartpury and it was FANTASTIC. But it had not a jot of publicity. A disgrace.

  • Well if it comes my way I'd love to do it & so would my mare . We do western at the moment, which is ok but so dreadfully slow .

  • Nope he isnt huge, I believe about 15.3hh- just incredibly muscled.

  • That horse is huge ! . XD

  • Looks like either and Andalusian or Lusitano. They're commonly 15.3h, not big like American sport horses, smaller & naturally rounded to accomodate that athleticism like human gymnasts are smaller, comparatively.

  • Now that's real horsemanship!

  • Oh myyy gooosh ! :D

The rider makes it seems so easy !

    I know it are´nt x)

  • fiiiuuuu!!!!!!saben los dos....

  • My oh my! LOVELY!!! Just don't let the catty dress-age ones from COTH find this LOL!!

  • you have it in UK. Just google the word + UK

  • wow, how I wish we had this here in UK instead of boring pointless dressage tests.

  • Boring, pointless dressage tests?? Haha.

  • Really? Dressage is pointless and boring? So does that mean every horse sport is pointless and boring, cause dressage is at the base of every single riding sport.

  • dressage will never be pointless!

it's the basics of all horse sports

what is you learning how to handle youre horse so he would finally listen to you at the right moment without forcing him to?

i think you are someone who is pulling its horse and forcing it to do things he just don't want to do .. try to ride it at the right way .. you will understand my point off vieuw and that of others who know what i'm talking about ;)

  • No I think you are missing my point; dressage as in training your horse to perform well is good, but dressage as an end in itself is bad IMO Dressage for its own sake, where the horse learns stuff that it never gets to use because it only does dressage, thats bad. What is the point in having a well trained horse if you never go out and ride it but spend all your time in a sand school ?

  • What's the point of riding your horses around barrels, jumping over flower boxes, or roping cattle for show? None whatsoever?

Why do people do it? Because it's fun and challenging. Is there really any logical reason to spend thousands on an animal that we don't actually need anymore? No.

    So your point is?

  • Because, we do it for real. We ride our horses over trails, round up cattle /sheep and encounter the same obstacles out and about as we do in the show ring. The show ring is a reconstruction of what we meet out and about and we are supposedly marked on how we react to it.

  • So how is dressage any different? One might show and train horses in dressage as part of the military tradition. Officers used to compete in the Olympics in full uniform.

Although riding the horse into battle is out-dated, so is riding trails, rounding up sheep/cattle, and everything else people do with horses. We have other less expensive options to use instead of 'wasting' money on keeping ineffient animals that get sick, go lame, and die on us.

So no, you're not 'doing it for real'.

  • Anyone who dissess any discipline in the horse world and doesn't know the real meaning of why each discipline exists shouldn't ride horses. If you don't have respect for other disciplines, then why should anyone have respect for what you do? You could stand to learn a lot from other disciplines instead of blatantly bashing them. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

  • Well quite right dear, maybe you should practise what you preach ? Dressage is the TRAINING of a horse in order for it to perform a task. It means what it says, from the french dresser, to train, teach or prepare. In other words, it is what you do to train your horse for a task. Western riders do dressage, show jumpers do dressage, gymkhana ponies do dressage . To make it an end in itself is IMO a waste of time , especially for the horse who doesnt get to put all that practise into real work

  • While the horse has been replaced by mechanical contrivances in many areas of the globe, ... it has not done so universally. There are still real cowboys that use real horses to do real work, even in the mechanically obsessed United States, especially in the western regions. They use the horse because it has abilities in certain terrain that a mechanical vehicle can either not maneuver, or is too costly to operate. Try and tell one of those cowboys that the horse is no longer useful.

  • Im sorry you didnt have animals when you were a kid, or if you did they probably hated you and your parents didnt love you either. Whats the point of having a lab ( you know the real name is labrador retriever) when no one actually uses them in an urban city to hunt and feed their families with? Trying to argue modern use of equine is a moot point. Tests like this are some of the most admirable challenges of equestrian skills, and at the very least preservation of a culture and times past.

  • No, you don't get my point at all.

The majority of people keep pets for companionship, so comparing equestrian sports against each other in regardless to their revelence is stupid.

And everything you're saying is what I have wrote in my last posts. It's called reading comprehension. Do us all a favor and get some.

The school system failed you apparently.

  • I don't know what kind of trainers you have around your area but that is not the standard life style for a dressage horse.

  • Where did you get that information? Yes, stallions have to be handled with skill, but those who are really dangerous are either not sold, gelded, or put down, to keep the bloodlines 'safe'. Plenty of them I've ridden are brave and not as inclined to spook, which makes any horse dangerous. And we do hack them.

  • I think you are the one who doesn't get the point. Dressage is the ultimate in communcation between rider and horse. The point is to refine your skills and create an athletic partnership where both the rider and the horse use their bodies to their full potential. The strength and discipline required is phenomenal. Dressage is also the foundation of riding. Do you use leg aids? Sidepasses? Then you are using the basics of dressage, whether you like it or not.

  • For sucsessfull jumping you NEED the flatwork, dressage doesn't just mean doing fancy movements.

In dressage you have to be able to extend or collect the canter or trot, if you needed to do that in jumping to adjust your stride, how could you do that if dressage is so pointless.

  • Who said dressage is pointless ? Dressage is the training of the horse, all I say is that it isn't an end in itself. How would you like it if you spent your entire life in school and were never allowed to go out and get a job ? Thats what its like for a Grand Prix horse .

  • Well that is a complete lie to be honest. SOME Grand prix horses do also do a fair bit of jumping, they won't do the same set of movements every single day ; Like Carl Hester for example ; he said that he jumps his horses occasionally to give them something else to do, and not to mention the fact that they HACK their horses out -.-
