No issue with anyone honoring their ancestors. However, in light of the fact that 250,000 German Americans fought to preserve the Union, (and that papers in Richmond and other Southern centers portrayed them as " lop eared Dutch" and "foreign Yankee hirelings", I have to ask if this tribute, though well meaning, is misplaced.
Instead of a Marlene Deitrich-ish, "Where have All the Flowers Gone" why not an accurate portrayal of how Germans were viewed in the South?
On both sides Germans fought and died! My roots are in South Carolina thus I feel connected with the south. Therefore I express my sympathy here. Many songs could support the film sequence but I think that's a matter of taste.
God bless Germany, and thank you for your love of the South. The cause will never die. Might will never conquer right. Wherever there are honorable men, the South will rise again.
