its like see the dawn of a new fantastic world and fly over all that place and experiment a glorious and soft joy

    sorry by my english

  • what a class act. his personality never overshadowed the music as happens with so many singers. he is just untouchable!

  • old GENIAL singer!

  • I am lost to the world with which I used to waste so much time, It has heard nothing from me for so long that it may very well believe that I am dead! It is of no consequence to me Whether it thinks me dead; I cannot deny it, for I really am dead to the world. I am dead to the world's tumult, And I rest in a quiet realm! I live alone in my heaven, In my love and in my song!

  • I've heard all the renditions of this song here and without a doubt I think this is the most intensely emotional interpretation of it I've ever heard, on or off YouTube. DFD's restraint is just heart rending. He just nailed it. My personal recording is of Thomas Hampson and the the San Francisco Symph. with Tilson-Thomas and I love that one, too. I think Hampson has the "bigger," more resonant voice and clearly he is DFD's heir apparent. "Ich bin" is the greatest of all German lieder, bar none.

  • Gorgeous singing of mr FD. I feel this is the best lied of all. I do prefer this lied sung by a male voice and my favorite for this is Jose Van Dam.

  • Mein Professor spielt das Englisch Horn, tolles Video, vielen Dank für's Hochladen!

(My oboe professor plays the english horn! amazing video, thank you so much for uploading it!)

  • Wonderful performance. His Hans Sachs is without peer, as well.

  • Someone once asked me, 'who are the best actors?'. I immediately replied ' Dieter and Maria.'

    They didn't have a clue.

Thankfully, the secret it safe with us.

    Oops.

    Lexi

  • Ineffably beautiful - only a couple of years before he retired from a glorious career.

  • The beauty itself comes out of this interpretation...

  • Wow, great version of this, such soul.

  • Sono commosso, grande DFD, si percepisce proprio quanto sia dentro al bellissimo testo ed alla incredibile musica dei Ruckert Lieder di Mahler

  • la voce di DFD è una delle gioie del mondo!!!! grazie L.

  • I am an American police officer who thinks D. Fischer-Dieskau is the finest lyric baritone of all time!

  • @mwoodward221 there's a great recording of this piece with D.F-D and Leonard Bernstein playing piano, I highly recommend it!

  • @mwoodward221 you are my favorite american police officer :)

  • @raspi093 Mine too!!!

  • @mwoodward221 hahaha good for you..

I think his Lied Von Der Erde with Bernstein as one of the best music ever!

  • @mwoodward221

I totaly agree with you my friend and I'm a professional French Canadian opera singer.

He's in another category and he's alone in...

    Divine singer

    God bless you and yours

    Pierre

  • @mwoodward221 Yes, he is great. But did you hear Jose van Dam singing this song?

  • Even at 64 this man, one of the greatest artists of all time, could sing this immensely moving song more beautifully than it had ever been sung or , for that matter, ever will be.

    Joe Carbia Miami,Florida

  • Absolut.

  • 28-5-2010 His 85 birthday today, what a gift to the world!

  • Magistrale interpretazione del bellissimo pezzo di Mahler

  • wonderful!!!!! it just brakes my heart...

  • Che delusione per uno che, come me, ricordava la meravigliosa registrazione di questo lied con Karl Bohm!

La voce se n'è già andata...

  • @freddiefreeloader59 totally agree! thanks to FiDiTanzer528 who posted a really great performance of this Lied by FD, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, conductor Karl Böhm

  • @freddiefreeloader59 La voce se n'è andata, ma l'espressività c'è ancora tutta e annoda lo stomaco.

  • The wonderful, wonderful Fischer-Dieskau. May we thank him for bringing to us a full career of musical beauty and joy.
