ol, Scipiosis, if you did this quest, it will tell you (no offense) just that - if you've played in that quest image of Arthas and have lost 80% hp not recommend you play WoW. Even with some skils and such large damages practically everyone (even beginners), he could easily smash Illidan. I suggest you practice the next time.

Teron Bloodshade was the first dk of the FIRST breed but Arthas was with no doubt the strongest ( reason= Hes AWSOME). The lich king was the fusion of the first lich king ( nerzhul) and arthas. The new lich king shaped the second breed. Have a nice day :)

In the opening mission to the undead campaign he is called the first deathknight. He started off as a paladin, then Ner'zhul turned him into a death knight, then Arthas shattered the frozen throne, "merged" with Ner'zhul (if you read the Arthas book, he really killed him and took his power) and became the Lich King.

No he merged with the Lich King... Was NEVER a DK... He created them as part of his elite army, which backfired on him... You should listen and read the story line during the DK starter quests... It explains all...

arthas used to be a paladin of Lordaeron. but was being spoken to by someone i forgot who and went to northrend to the frozen throne and obtained the Frostbourne which the Lich King was infused in and now became infused with arthas. thus creating the Death Knight.

I'm pretty sure the lore from blizzard says that he was a paladin, became tainted by things ner'zhul told him, got frostmourne and became ner'zhul's slave (as a death knight) and annihilated lordaeron, and when illidan moved on icecrown with the burning legion, arthas was called back, kicked illidans ass, and ascended the citadel and ptu on the helm of command or whatever the hell its called, and became the lich king.
That's pretty much what blizzard themselves wrote.

@ republcannatio - The devs have said a lot of shit that is just BS, like they got me really fucking excited back before i quite WoW last time (i keep crawling back) because he "hinted" that we would be able to sort of, "join up" with the lich king in the next expansion, then Cataclysm was announced, and i was sooooooo disappointed, so i stick with what has been officially printed as canon as the facts.....but i just don't trust those bastards at blizzard :)

First of all: Arthas NEVER died, he picked up Frostmourne and was turned by the voices of the sword, the Lich Kings voice.
Secondly: No he was NOT the first Death Knight of all time Teron Gorefiend was in the tests of Ner'Zuhl's Shadow Council to make the perfect warrior.

@lhgfb In WC3 in mission where you have to kill Antonidas and claim the book of Medivh, Arthas says: "I'm Arthas, FIRST OF THE LICH KING'S death knights". So he was right :) Teron Gorefiend was created long before the lich king.

Did I ever say I said he wasn't the first Death Knight of the Lich King? No. But then again. Ner'Zuhl and the Lich King was the same person back there and they never spoke with each other so Arthas was most likely unaware that the Lich King was actually an Orc Shaman.

In the most un-know-it-all-y voice as possible - Arthas WAS a death knight. Read the lore. Ner'zhul wasn't a lich, he was an orc shaman trapped in the frozen throne by Kil'jaeden. He started off as a paladin, then Ner'zhul turned him into a death knight, then Arthas shattered the frozen throne, "merged" with Ner'zhul (if you read the Arthas book, he really killed him and took his power) and became the Lich King.

^ this is from the wow developers chat on twitter well AFTER that book got released. Ner'zhul is not dead nor is he consumed, he is still alive.

Go to post #10 where a blizzard poster named Crygil states that Ner'zul has NOT been consumed and is still alive. That part of the book has been completely retconned.

Listen to my words! A death knight is, in fact, a fallen hero. All death knights are dead. In WC3, Arthas was a death knight hero, that was his class. The Lich King has to be a fallen hero. Thus, Arthas died, and is/was a "death knight."

Arthas, died. yes i said it. he was killed after killing his father, then he was raised from the grave as a death knight by the lich king. from there he killed the members of the silver hand (including uther) and then the story continues from there. seriously, go play warcraft 3 or stfu. that is all.

He is a death Knight. Blizzard first introduced a Death Knight in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, Arthas, first was a hardcore Paladin saving his people and helping the helpless no matter what the consequences were. Then he got to Northrend to hunt down Mal'Ganis. In Northrend he lost his mind and the empty space called "Emotions", got tainted with dark force. Then he became a Death Knight, slaughterd the rest of Eastern Kingdoms, returned to Northrend, and then Merged with Ner'Zhul.

A) Arthas Merged with Ner'Zhul, which was the greatest of Gul'dan's Death Knights, Arthas merged with Ner'Zhul... BING Death Knight
B) Warcraft 3 Heroes, Arthas was First a paladin, then during the Undead campaign he was a Death Knight, so saying Arthas wasnt a Death Knight is just like saying he wasnt a Paladin.

@metalgearsolidrulez nope, arthas never died. Frostmourne just corrupted his soul. It even said in the inscription before Arthas retreived the blade that it would "Scar the soul", so thats what happened to him. He didnt actually die in battle then get ressed

You clearly see that the teleporting magic summons him to Tichondrius at that point. Not the ressurection magic effect. And whats wrong with wowwiki, i think they know more about the game than just some guy, (whoever you are lol)
