  • @JamesJimmaHarding- my thoughts PRECISELY !! We almost NEVER get Thunderstorms in Tassie, it completely sucks. growl growl lol

  • That was impressive, especially when you consider how rare thunderstorms and hot days are in Tassie!

  • i also noticed the lightning was constantly hitting the same spot at times

  • @backyardstorms103

yes, it does look like they were hitting same spot - video was taken from a vast distance... storm cloud seem to be stationary... was unable to get some of the closer lightning or miss them as they happened.. it was a spectacular display, I must add....

  • I wish I wasn't working for the main show... I only caught the tail end of it but the strikes were still coming about about 1 every 10 seconds. Looks like you had a great view!

  • oh sounds like you were under the whole storm?

  • Wow, lightning put the fireworks to shame! I would have loved to be there!

  • i was wondering what appears on your footage at the 0.49 mark. Slow moving and lasting a few seconds. It's not a firework, and as it gets close to the ground it lights up the area pretty well. It's not a flare either.

  • thought it was one of those 'single' type fireworks lthat behaves like a flare?

  • Rokket, did you see this 'red' thingy over yr way that night?

  • I didn't see it but my partner did, I was inside at the time. A flare tends to fall in a downward motion not side ways and tends to flicker and leaves a smoke trail. There are not any fireworks to my knowledge that last that long in the sky and it appears to be way too high for either......you have captured something odd thats for sure. Very interesting.

  • h ah aha Do u believe in UFOs?

Well, don't think this one is... I have seen single flare type fireworks in the past.

Wonder if anyone else in Hobart or Eastern Shores seen it too especially those who were at Rosny Hill that night - lots of onlookers were there.

Hope someone watch this clip and comment too!

  • @DennisOnshaw its either ball lightning or a fireworks thing. but i do believe in ufos

  • @backyardstorms103 thanks for watching...

read my reply below written 6months ago...

  • @Rokket hihi, found out what that 'flare' is ... parashooters! They carry flares when doing night 'drops'!

  • nice guys :)

  • Hey Rokket & jlebesis, thanks for watching!

Yes it was amazing. a friend told me that one of the lightning started a fire in one of the northern suburbs - was put out fortunately.

The final bit of clip is the midnight firework display after the clock strikes. Happy 2010 to you both!

  • Hey Dennis, just as i turned the camera off to have a break from filming, we turned around to go inside just in time to see lightning strike in the back yard of a house...it was amazing....the brightest and loudest thing I have ever witnessed..!!

  • @Rokket

Pity, I couldn't film towards yr direction as there is a streetlamp outside my window! n hve not noticed that one!

Wow, what an experience for you!

  • Great Video, that was a crazy storm..!!

  • That was a beast of a storm! I was on the waterfront in Geelong, and we must have had the other end of it! Thanks for posting :)
