Metal wasn't really a form of rock. Rock is derived from blues and R&B while metal in it's truest form is derived from classical music and in some places fast jazz music. Rock had to come before metal though because with rock came distorted electric guitars and fast beats.

@ibanezdudeck Symphonic metal and progressive metal are derived from classical. Thrash metal, death metal, black metal, etc. are not. Those genres mainly compete with eachother over who can play the heaviest and at the most breackneck speeds.

@ibanezdudeck how is metal not derived from blues? ever heard of black sabbath? even power metal has blues roots. most power metal bands have an influence somewhere along the line from either dio (black sabbath or rainbow), deep purple, or led zeppelin... can you think of more bluesy bands than that? yngwie malmsteen's biggest inspiration is hendrix... again bluesy as hell. it goes on.

@theZodiacDigital It's the scales. How many metal guitarists use dominant 7 #9 chords like Hendrix? How about pentatonic scales? Zakk Wylde. That's about it for people that use it in most of their songs. Harmonic minor scales are common in metal and not so much in blues. Hendrix and blues players brought about the idea of soloing and fast music, but the notes and scales in metal are closer to that of classical songs than blues songs

Yep, that's what it says. Roy Z is credited as the primary guitarist on the album but supposedly Gus and Roy are good friends so Gus might have had a bit of influence on the writing aspect.
