  • very good information and thank you for that

  • thank you for posting. I have to try to remember to make a list of bad ingreedients to avoiad.

  • i really like this video but i wish the sound quality was better...please use an equalizer

  • FDA=EVIL

  • I created a shout-out for the newly opened Natural Grocers store in the NW Austin Area - specifically in Cedar Park, TX. I review the prices, some groceries we purchased and other natural shopping options for living in NW Austin suburbs. youtube.com/watch?v=qHAP6N5mGoA

  • thank you, this helped me so much i am writing my research paper on whether food preservatives and pesticides are more of a positive or a negavite on humans and this gave me a lot of information

  • yeah, they used to put cocaine in coke people!!! wake up!!!

  • Skip E numbers and from botulism

  • Does this guy seem a little overweight to be talking about the halmfull effects of additives?

  • mdlewisrd?? I think you are an owner of an additive or preservative company..There are lots of research done in this field and lots of evidence..If there are 100 healthy benefits and one harmful effect, that product shd be avoided..

  • Excellent vid

  • Nutritionist? Means very little. What this video does is just scare people Did you realize that beta carotene, you know the compound found in carrots that makes you see better, the precursor to it A, is classified as a food additive and is used as a food coloring for margarine? You know Vitamin E, that antioxidant that is found in healthy fats? It is a classified as a food additive, also. People are just not aware that there are thousands of additives. Many do you no harm and some help.

  • Very informative and easy to understand. Ty

  • This is unbelievable what our food has come down to. It's sooooo sad that not only do we have to be overly concerned about violence and moral decline, but also moral decline with our foods as well. AY! THanks so much for your outstanding information.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to make these videos. I really do appreciate the knowledge you're willing to pass on without the intentions of making a profit, and all the while saving lives. The FDA could learn a thing or two from you...

  • sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate forms benzene and a known carcinogen that causes cancer. sodium benzoate is found in many sodas and juices.

  • very good i did subscribe but dont know how to rate vids yet

  • no wonder i cant eat or drink diet food it makes my stomach go crazy:s

  • A brillent meaning of food additives! got a exam 2moz and have to get revision this is perfect!

  • WOW!!!!!

  • Jello>>> is bad???

  • How do industries get away with putting these additives in our food? I thought the country was a democracy controlled by the public in our interests.

  • Truth is, it goes deeper.

  • Its a conspiracy.

  • democracy is an illusion.

  • Unfortunatey, although as a dietitian, I wholly disagree with the scare tactics of this video, it is a democracy that also allows food manufacturers to create packaging that attracts you to buy the product. This has nothing to do with the health of the product as terms like "natural" and "healthy" have no definition according to the FDA. A registered dietitian is trained to help you tease out the truth from the falsehoods in advertising.

  • not true mdlewsrd, these doo doo ingredients cause a whole slew od dna mutations. Ever wonder why so many folks end up with weird cancers? The corporations need to be regulated to not be allowed to add this crap to food. They will not "on their own" have our safety in mind, unless its profitable.

  • thanks. very informative

  • Austin? Relative to Steve Austin?

  • He's from Austin, his name isn't Austin..

  • could you reccomend a brand of soy milk that doesn't contain carrageenan? Thanks! :)

  • Carrageenan is seaweed. It is used to thicken liquids like soymilk, fat free creamy salad dressings, etc. It will not hurt you. I am afraid this video is extremely misleading. Consult a registered dietitian who is trained to know these things.

  • Thanks. I am actually studying to be a dietitian and have become friends with my nutrition professor who is an RD and she told me a while back that they were questioning it's safety...I haven't really followed up with her on this but since then we have both been limiting it's presence in our diet. As vegans we thought it would be difficult, but its not really! :)

  • Great video, valuable information thank you.

  • drop the cheesy music and the 70s background and then its all good (y)

  • Can you do a pro and con video on all of the sugars/sweetners, and sugar alcohols like sorbitol, xylitol, corn syrup, maltodextrin, fructose, dextrose, cane sugar, honey, etc...?

  • Great video. High Fructose Corn Syrup, another BAD one.

  • My 'natural' toothpaste contains carrageenan. Should I boycott it?

  • When you eat raw living foods you don't need toothpaste at all. Our ancestors didn't brush their teeth and had no cavities. The industry sells us 99% products we don't need. If you insist, use water, baking soda, salt, or simply natural soap.

  • Yeah, actually they did get cavities and their teeth would fall out. Our ancestors lived to a maximum of what age 40 I think, and by they you could expect them to have little if any teeth left. Please brush your teeth!

  • I don't think you are correct. Major tooth decay only came about after high agriculture communities. Hunter gatherers still had great teeth. For example the Alpine man of 4000 years ago found frozen compared with post 1400queens of england usually overweight and with far less teeth than their ancestors. I don't think "Hemyola" meant not to brush you teeth but that it isn't necessary to use toothpaste. I agree and I have less cavities than anyone in my family. Eating habits it the major cause.

  • Where did you get that? I am not familiar with how many teeth our ancestors from 4,000 years ago had. Then again, our ancestors did not live to be as old as we do today.

My comment was a reply to someone saying people shouldn't brush their teeth NOW. Do you think our diet NOW is a little different than the one of the Alpine man of 4000 years ago? I can only imagine that it is worse than the post 1400 diet.

  • That could be a lie, our ancestors could have lived longer then us.

  • I have used toothpaste maybe once every two months if that. I agree with you - it is not needed especially if you eat properly. The only downfall is when I tell people I don't use it and they think the right thing to do is act like you are unsanitary.

  • No, I think that's taking it a little far. Just don't brush too hard so you don't have bleeding gums because then whatever you are brushing with goes directly into your bloodstream.

  • Carrageenan is seaweed. You see, there are food additives that are just regular old stuff. This video is misleading. Consult a registered dietitian who has the education to teach you these things.

  • @mdlewisrd Lambda carrageenan, which Does not gel and is used to thicken dairy & soy products, is used in animal models of inflammation to test analgesics, because dilute carrageenan solution (12%) injected subcutaneously causes swelling and pain. Additionally, there are studies that indicate carrageenan induces inflammation in human intestinal epithelial cells which may cause; ulcerations in the gastro-intestinal tract, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastro-intestinal cancer.

  • should be 1 to 2% not 12% YouTube removed the hyphen for some reason.

  • great videos you guys

  • Keep up the good work. Spread the message.

  • Certified Organic is the only way to go, the best are foods that are fresh and still "alive"

  • That was a very informative vid. I've often wondered just exactly what effect these additives had on our bodies. Fav + 5 stars. Mary

  • They add scent? that is going too far

  • Just wait until my next video on processed foods. I go all over that.

  • That was pretty good lecture you gave. There are a few dangerous food additives that you didn't go over, though, that I would have loved to see you do so on. Such as, MSG (Monosodium Glutamate), soy lecithin and other soy proteins (which all have glutamate and are genetically modified), aspartame and other arficial sweeteners (such as splenda), and things like all of that. I hope you do another lecture soon, but on all of those excitotoxins, their harms, and why they harm the way they do.

  • I am. I had to save some room for some others and I am actually going to go over many others. It is an interesting topic and I appreciate hearing what others are interested in.

  • Looking 4ward to more.Thanks

  • Just Don't Eat. Do Taichi. Use the ephemeral energy of the surrounding environment. Suck them into your body...

  • This is great info, but it gets kind of anoying hearing you say "ahhhh" too much.

  • I'll work on that.

  • So are all the chemicals that are in foods listed? Do they leave EVERYTHING out in a market like Whole Foods?

  • I knew a man who worked at a chemical plant that made additives for ice cream. He said enough of any one of these chemicals could kill you.... I don't eat ice cream.

  • all this modern processed food is engineered to be reinforcing to your nervous system, to taste good on the tongue and release cascades of rewarding pleasure chemicals throughout your brain.

junk food is more drug than food.

it is geared for pleasure, not nourishment.

i call it "FOOD AS DRUG".

if you want a burst of pleasurable sensations, get a big mac or candy bar or starbucks.

if you want to meet and fullfil the natural requirements of your body, youre going to have to avoid muchpoison

  • sleestack: we need smarter buyer who will totally boycott corporate chemical fast food and other unhealthy corporate chemical chains like starbucks.

im glad to see that whole foods market around here in new orleans is always busy and is becoming very trendy. a good sign.

i wouldnt give a penny to mcdonalds or stabucks or any of those others. im looking into growing some of my own stuff.

yes, it is hard to avoid "these things".

remember, your entire system is made of food, brain, nerves, all

  • Its hard to avoid these things. Who only eats vegetables and meat? There needs to be regulation from our government so we don't have to pay out the nose to get healthy food.

  • How about a video about Genetically Modified food and how to avoid it?

  • I'll get it done

  • I thought it was seaweed too

  • oi about carrageenen or however it's spelled i remember this one episode who wants to be a millionare, the question was what ingredient is in both toothpaste and ice cream... and it's carra..whatever. for some reason though since then i always thought carrag..whatever was a type of sea weed. idky though.. thanks for this vid!!

  • Thanks Austin, I like your approach and the way you simplfy and explain things.

  • great video, but was not fond of the transitional music

  • I am glad you posted this linzizzle I used a free song and spent more time on the backgrounds. I will put more attention on the music on the next one.

  • you listed a lot of good information but would it be possible to get a brief history of who or food companies started putting in these additives? I'd like some historical context of why people started tampering with food like this.

  • dogatron In my bleached flour video I give a little of the information you request. I will do a video on this to give you a historical context

  • From fiat money comes fiat people and fiat food.

  • what does fiat mean?

  • Fake/lie, material rather then spirit/nature. It is the debasing of that which is good so as to alter purpose, poison in lieu of nourish. We are to guard nature/Eden, GUARDEDEN/spirit. T/y for being of spirit/true purpose.

Fiat$ is an opinion/ego as is fiat people/actors, those who pretend, who've hidden purpose/intent, not w/truth/nature. Our air is debased, water, food and in turn our spirit. People live for material/debt and forsake spirit/nature for lies/ego's. Channel BankofSpirit

  • Thank you eye8one2 for explaining this to me.

  • When I went to England the meat had a lot less texture and really was more close to jello, is it just in America that we ruin our meat?

  • There are so many food additives to be wary of, and this video covered some of the big ones, so thank you very much for that.

Remember that the body can handle anything in moderation. I like the idea of a 90/10 diet, meaning I'm 90% organic whole foods, 10% junk food. One 12 oz coke won't give you diabetes, but one a day for a couple of years will put you at a much higher risk.

I'd like to see a video on acidic vs. alkaline body pH. Thanks again!

  • That is a great point ultratuba.

  • Thanks for the videos. Ever since your "Bleached flour" video I have been looking at labels to see what's what. I noticed that many of the smaller brands use unbleached flour in their white breads. I also wanted to let everyone know that Safeway/Von's/Tom Thumb has gone to unbleached flour in their bakeries for their french and sour dough breads that we bake from scratch in every store. (I'm a baker for Tom Thumb.)

  • That is great information to have. Thank you for watching and thanks for the heads up.

  • HE'S MISPRONOUNCING THESE ITEMS.

  • Please record a video response with the correct pronouncing of the items and I will know in the future. I got them from written text and carranagen is tough man.

  • Its no wonder people in the UK are dead against untested GMO Frankenstein foods being pushed down our throats by the US government who refuse to label the perverted muck and are using the WTO to force Europe to accept and swallow this wretched Frankenstein perversion, which could turn out in a few years to be a bigger disaster than Mad Cow.

  • Having seen a mother on BBC UK talking about finding justice for her 25yr old son who died from nvCJD (Mad Cow) most likely infected from eating beef as a child. And how everyone over 10yrs old in the UK has been exposed to nvCJD from eating beef and that how her 25yr old son died incapacitated and in terror in only a few months adding to the hundreds who have died from this man made greedy profit made disease. Who's likely cause was feeding 50% cow to vegetarian cows in the 80s.

  • stevia is a safe sweetner, it comes from a herb used for hundreds of years by natives...i cant remember the country. i cant tell if this video was negative about it, but since mentioned i thought i throw in my 2 cents.

  • I love stevia. I just mentioned it as a sweetner. I was hoping people would hear about it and go buy some. It is my favorite as it is an herb and not a man made substance

  • In the UK we have a very popular food product named 'Marmite',beloved by the health conscious/vegetarians,it's marketed as a health food.Marmite is 'yeast extract',yeast extract is a flavour enhancer and it contains MSG.Food manufacturers know most of us won't buy products containing MSG so they decieve us by 'hiding the bad stuff'. Hydrolized vegetable protein is another decoy MSG product, take a trip around you local wholefood/vegefood shop and you'll find most of this stuff ain't so healthy..

  • hey Joseph, good video. particular food additive hates of mine include - aspartame; artificial sweetener, in most soft drinks (including cordials) also to be found in deserts/yoghurts/confectionary/crisps etc. beware of anything that claims 'low fat/sugar' on the packaging, this is generally not a good sign.

  • What about the crap they put in vaccinations, what can one do before or after a vaccination to prevent ill health.

  • What a great channel this is!

  • Read that 700000 Americans dies from heart failure each year... serious need to tone down on the donuts.

  • thanks for the info

  • Could you do a video on the Organics please some super markets use there own brands and mark them Organic this is a sham ..thanks..

    cappo.

  • I have a organic food market very close to me, but I cant afford to shop at that particular store. Fresh greens and fruits are great!! Are fruit and veggie washes effective and are they safe to use? Thanks for the videos man.
