Pietersen said he knicked it, but didn't walk. He doesn't have to walk, mind you. Ponting was just annoyed because hotspot showed a blemish at the bottom of the bat. The third umpire attributed that to the bat hitting pad. Quite clearly the bat did not hit the pad. That was his reasoning for disputing the decision. I think with these new laws you should be able to get clarification with the umpire, like in Rugby, otherwise it is just confusing.

I think Rick could have handled it better however.
