@fattyifalive nope, if you drop it in the middle you arent in neutral, rocking it from side to side after taking it out of gear puts you in neutral.

@strikerm70 Every manual car I've been around you just pull it OUT of any gear and you're in neutral.. Only reason to rock it side to side is just to 'make sure' your in neutral.

I figured I'd look videos like this up, about to teach my girl to drive my manual 1990 honda prelude lol.. She shouldn't have trouble though, she's rode dirt bikes with a clutch, just transferring that skill to her a FOOT! lol

@strikerm70 This is a Jetta, and my friend had one. You have to push down on the shifter and put it into 1st in order to put it in reverse, so in order to take it out you gotta put it in neutral. so she was right.

@strikerm70 reverse and first aren't synchronized together. They will grind, I'm on my 6 VW and every one would grind doing that.

Wrong, most cars wont allow you to shift from a forward gear to a reverse gear without dis-engaging into neutural, my car is a 5 speed and reverse is above 5th so it would be easy to go straight into reverse from 5th but it wont allow you to unless you put it into neutural first.
