  • What A Sunday Goody

  • How can the music industry turn from something like this to something like Lil Wayne and Niki Minaj? Bitch, ho, slut, fuck, sex, money, club, dick, pussy, tits, those are the lyrics of today's music! I agree with maybrook1, I, we, were born in the wrong generation.

  • @Leinard04 You were born in the wrong generation when you have to resort to using bad language like that to describe your feelings about such a clean and classic song tbh. Your comment totally ruined for me.

  • I was also born too late also. I love this music. Thanks for sharing this wonderful melody.

  • Profundo, me lembra meus tempos incriveis

  • my father played drums for the platters with herb reed and toured europe with them.

  • Incredible performance!! Beautiful group with a phenomenal sound and impeccable class!!!

  • Wonderful voice and beautiful song. If we could only go back.

  • The Game:

    1) Discover the #1 single in your country of origin in the week you were born.

    2) Find it on YouTube.

    3) Post it on your FB page without shame

    this one was mine (1/18/59)

  • @kingskid4real mine too 1/22/59

  • @kingskid4real

I googled it and the no 1 song in US (unfortunately I couldn't find the no 1 song in my country) the week I was born was Guy Mitchell with "Heartaches by the number (15/12 1959)

  • @hancar never heard of him or it

  • @kingskid4real

Me neither! :) But it's fun to look up the songs that was popular around the time when you were born. I'm gonna get that song now!

  • 136 people are RACIST

  • Amazing ethereal quality in Tony Williams' voice. This reminds me of Mena House in Cairo where they play a similar version in a quartet in the Lounge.

  • A great recording

  • Dinah Washington's version is great too.

  • Damn!, Tiger Woods has a great voice!

  • I wish I was born in the 50's for so many reasons!!!

  • Beautiful memories spent in the company of friends in the 60s listening to this music.

  • "She was just so damn beautiful, you should've seen her."

  • One of my all time favorite groups and song.

  • FRANKIE LYMON BROUGHT ME HERE

  • Timeless!!! I heard this in my grandmas records way back in the early 70's...

  • I heard and danced to the band, way back in 1958!

  • Flocking righteous!!!!!!

  • Classic!!!!!!!

  • He has the voice of an angel. The Platters will always be timeless classics. They certainly don't make music like this anymore. These songs never get old for me.

  • How can someone possibly dislike this song?

  • @Brianpacker1224 I readily agree with you. Maybe the one who dislikes is jealous.

  • @fferocious ... lol you might just be right.

  • @Brianpacker1224 It's not the song. It's because the Platters are black. Same reason many people dislike President Obama. They use 'policies' as a smoke screen for their hate and ignorance.

  • @glorybra ... Yeah i have realised that by reading some of the comments on the stories in usatoday. Its a real shame there have to be people like that around.

  • @Brianpacker1224 stupid motherfuckers

  • @Brianpacker1224

There idiots this is great music. Some singers need computers and other gadgets to enhance their voices without it they sound terrible. All I can say is haters keep on hating.

  • fantastici e mitici !!!!!

  • awesome one of the most important songs in rock and roll music history

  • i love this song

great to see this stuff still out there and enjoyed

  • goose bumps and hair standing up ...that's how great that song is ...thank you ..merci merci..

  • Bet the lead singer will comes back alive if he listens to Justin Bieber from the graveyard!

  • @Vscounter maybe to bash his head in for polluting the minds of the current generations with his retarded, incoherent screeches.

  • @GuillermoSTD Totally agree. Hi there, since you had give a reply on my comment, would you recommended songs that are similar to this song? I am in my early 20's and I am not too familiar with music in the 50's-60's.

  • Musica que não se esquece nunca.

Foram sim senhor, grandes senhores da música que hoje se continua a ouvir.

    VM

  • 135 people are asleep!

  • Back when real men were (supposed to be) gentlemen and young women were (supposed to be) "ladies". Today... well... that level of elegance, class, and charm seem to be mostly absent in today's culture.

I mean, it's very noticeable in the music. And you may or may not believe it... but what you hear in the music actually proliferates in people's outward social behavior more often than not... even though some may argue that music reflects people's behavoir of the times they're living in...

  • gives me goosebumps eheheeheh

  • ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL

  • I hope someday I can actually know how this sing makes a man feel for his Love... Someday... : )

  • Wow! This brings back a flood of memories from the 50's! Love it!

  • Why did they cut of the song in the end? Right at the high note...... However, the singing is beautiful.

  • I was born in the wrong generation.

  • @maybrook1 Me too!! The 80's was not old enough!!

  • @maybrook1 Indeed.. same here.. :))

  • @maybrook1 me too!!!! fuck!

  • @maybrook1 Tell me about it...

  • So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed To think they could doubt my love Yet today my love has flown away I am without my love

Now laughing friends deride Tears I can not hide Oh, so I smile and say When a lovely flame dies Smoke gets in your eyes Smoke gets in your eyes

  • They asked me how I knew My true love was true Oh, I of course replied Something here inside cannot be denied

They said someday you'll find All who love are blind Oh, when your heart's on fire You must realize Smoke gets in your eyes

  • 134 people "dislike" this song. Are they actually human?

  • i 23years old and i love this songs so badly no matter what people saying

(smoke gets in yours eyes.....) hell ya i love this songs so much...

  • Played this on the evening me and the father off my daughter met......

  • Isn't it amazing how so many of these great singers were black? It's amazing, given that today we have RAP. What happened?!

  • why can´t they do this kind of music thesedays?? it´s a shame.(..cn´t get enough of the 50´s and 60´s..American Graffitti rules and everyone should see it!!

  • @mumintrollet68 How come they didn't do the classic music from the 20's-30's or the big band sound in the 50's or 60's?? Oh never mind. Anyway, great song by the Platters!!!

  • ok go listen to rap, and who is talking racism? the man singing is black, and the people who listen to this song are of many races. the same as rap singers they are all different races too

  • wow the racism is rediclous here

im only 19 this musicis fuckin incred

but this totally digustin racist bashing on rap music is nonsense

not all rap is bitches and hoes some is about politics some is pure urban poetry

  • Combien de jeunes filles, de femmes ai-je serrées dans mes bras en dansant ce slow, se terminant par un baiser langoureux, A real French Kiss ! It was so wonderfull, I was 17 y.o. but it's yesterday once more ! Que de souvenirs encore présents. Et les Platters jouèrent un grand rôle dans la connaissance de ces chansons.

  • Wake up, people. This is real music. ALSO.

WE NEED TO GET THIS TO 20 MILLION VIEWS.

    That is all.

  • "Crap," if you look - or listen - is mostly "rap."

  • this song is to enjoy with your wife and a good martini...rap is is to enjoy with your bitch hitin some crack rock

  • i love listening this every sunday i['m 21

  • hermosa esta cancion simplemente maravillosa!

  • How come the youth of my generation do not appreciate this kind of music? They don't have ears for good music...But I have :-)

  • this is one of the greatest songs of all time, what a beautiful voice this man had.

  • Doo wop at it's finest.

  • Simply beautiful. If I was so lucky to have a man serenade me with this song I'd be theres forever.

  • What a truly wonderful song. All of their songs shall remain endless classics remembered long, long after rap. In fact, one of the previous comments made said it best; Ladies, wouldn't you rather be romanced with this wonderful song or be serenated by an idiot calling you a "Ho or Bitch." If you prefer rap, hopefully your bank account can support many visits to a psychiatrist. I believe it's worth mentioning that the word "rap" is indicative of where it had to originate from "crap"

  • There is an element of sacredness with this song . God inspired.

  • Wish I could have grown up in this era.

  • My Grandfather (Tony Williams lead singer) had a wonderful voice!! So glad that The Platters music is still being played and is appreciated.

  • @DollfaceA3 He was one of the greatest singers.....ever ! He was before my time..but my Mom had the 45 records and it was so wonderful to discover his amazing voice ! Then I found his videos and he was so handsome as well as being talented ! What an incredible man ! You should be so proud ! Wasn't his sister Linda a great singer, as well ? Do you sing, also ? His music was magical and it is a pleasure to read your comment !

    *Mel*

  • @DollfaceA3 YEAH.. I LOVE DOLLFACE... SHE'S THE HOSTEST WITH THE MOSTEST.. LOL.. BOW CHICA BOW WOW.

  • @DollfaceA3 your grandfather is one of the best vocalists ever. Sending your family so much love. This is one of my favorite songs in the entire world.

  • @DollfaceA3 Not only did he have a great voice... He must have been a very special person without the big ego needs of some of singers. With many singers... they would have gone solo... or insisted that the group be called Tony Williams and the Platters... I have always loved his voice... and I have always loved that in spite of how he was so much the sound of the Platters that the group just stayed The Platters...

  • @DollfaceA3 Hello, it seems as though you have no conception of what an artist your Grand Father was. As someone who grew up listening to him sing--BETTER THAN ANYONE WE HAD EVER HEARD--it is important that you know. Have you, in your lifetime, heard another artist that had both a natural falsetto & a huge natural range, and could make them both blend so beautifully. Your grandfather was incredible, and I cherish the moments that I have shared listening to his musical genius.

  • The BEST male vocalist of the 50's right next to Nat King Cole.

  • i mis my dad very much. He used to play this beautiful music when he`s still alive.

  • BoA does this song better!

  • Wow!! does this song bring back the memories!!! All those summer nite dances, all those slow dances!! All the girls were dreamy eyed, and all the guys thought they were going to score!!!!! Most of the time the girls went home with their girl friends and the guys hung around and bragged about what happened!! MOSTLY NOTHING!!!! Great memories any way!!!!

  • why are those who are disliking this? =.= screw loose. this is a great song!

  • Anything you wnated to borrow Mom, with this song, she provided for sure... It was her drug... She passed away, but I can´t avoid to remember her with this master work... Thank you for sharing...

  • this is music, love it

  • how nice !!!! great song!!

  • so BEAUTIFUL!love the platters sooooo much

  • this played on benjamine button right? so sad song

  • C'est fabuleux ,j'adore !!

  • I am 49 years old and when I was growing up, I use to think this was pretty corny stuff but then again, that is because my father was close personal friends with Paul Robie and on occasion, he would step in as a replacement singer. When I saw this, it wasn't smoke in my eyes, but tears because Paul was a truly great man and unpretentious. In our home, he was "Uncle Paul" ... He was kind, friendly, and the epitome of class. May he rest in peace.

  • I like all the comments on here this is like one of the only video with zero hate in the comments

  • I am 16 years old and could not be more in love with The Platters. Their voices are freakishly beautiful and the songs.. OH MY GOD! <3
