@jeffery19677 Hi -- Yeah, it's a crime what they charge for the cage kits. My husband has designed some outdoor pens he wants to build this summer to "float" over our garden beds. We're loving rabbit meat, so I don't see the meat rabbits leaving the homestead any time soon and probably going to be expanding our breeding stock. Thanks for tuning in!
Maybe you shouldn't give up on your tomatoes. Rather than pulling them out, why not leave them and see if they bounce back? My blighty tomatoes are producing like crazy and even the small green ones have ripened indoors on a steel shelving unit with cardboard in front of a south facing window.
We are going to have to tackle this issue with our four geese. Cannot keep them over the winter as 1) no room 2) expensive so they are for the chop. I would like our neighbour - an old lady who kills her chickens to do it in return for half a goose - however, think I will maybe have to do it. They are intelligent birds but, as you say, you cannot get fond of your animals...
Not the rabbits in the video-- they're my breeding stock -- but their children, yes, that is the plan. My husband says he can do the deed when necessary. I am skeptical, but giving him the benefit of the doubt. I'm going to have to ban the children from playing with (and getting attached to) the future babies. . . Now, who is going to do that for me? LOL
@ziggy2sound4u -- I try to be optimistic and say "If", but you're right, "when" is probably a lot more accurate to say. I ain't no spring chicken either (48 this month), but I sure don't feel "that" old. I think having young kids helps, makes me forget how old I really am, until, that is, I see the other Moms at school and realize I could easily be THEIR mothers. LOL.
@ziggy2sound4u -- I can't make videos on making goat milk ice cream, cooking goat meat, or making wood ash lye soap because I've never done any of those things! I only have books telling me how to. : )
Looks to me, that we may ALL need this information, for Obama's constant spending coupled with our debt(the Chinese has stopped buying our Treasury Bills) and the printing of U.S. dollars WILL cause hyperinflation.
I recommed placing cardboard covering 1/4 of the cage floor to keep their paws from getting raw on the bars (from experance we have had rabbits for 10+yrs. Keep em warm in winter too, they can catch cold and perish.
We have a wooden board (about 16" x 14") in each cage. I definitely don't want to be dealing with cage burn! Plus, I will be putting a nest box with straw in each one -- even the buck's pen as it gets cold here and I like to give them something to burrow into if they have to. It seems rabbits are more cold-hardy than heat hardy though. At least that's been my impression with our pet bunnies.
Well hi there! You're a ways north of us. Gorgeous area -- my parents retired to Baldwin and we'd often take 10 over to Ludington for the day. And YES -- I think we are going to have an early winter. I expect hard frosts yet this month and usually, we don't get them until October. Some trees are already turning down here!
Mounting a rabbit pin over a worm bin will allow the worms to feed off of the rabbit droppings. Kill two birds with one stone. Use the worm droppings in the garden and grow food for the rabbits. lol
It is a lot cheaper to build your own rabbit cages, and really easy. My 10 year old helped me build one and he built the next two alone.
Good luck with your rabbitry..

He's actually a Californian, or a cross

Yeah, I corrected myself in the annotations. He's a purebred Californian.

Yeah, that's the breed. Those and the lionheads are what EVERYONE is raising around here. The rabbit barn at the fair this year was full of those.

Are you going to eat these rabbits? They are still quite popular with smallholders in Poland!

@Michigansnowpony
You are aware, that your rabbits do not require fancy rabbit feed?
I have one, that the neighbor let loose, because he could no longer afford to buy the fancy rabbit feed.
I've been feeding my rabbit, bread, cracked corn, potato peelings, lettuce, celery, about to turn, and once in awhile, a carrot.
This rabbit has got along just fine, even put on weight!
Tame rabbit is about like eating chicken, if breaded and fried.

@ziggy2sound4u -- Yes, if poo poo hits the fan, I figure feeding the rabbits will be the easiest to manage.

@Michigansnowpony
I think its not IF the poo poo hits the fan, but when!
I just hope that I'm up to the task.
I'm no spring chicken any more.

Yep, prepare for the worst, and if it turns out to be not so bad(which I seriously doubt), then you're ahead of the game!
Good night and keep up the informational films!
Ever thought about one on cooking goat meat or goat milk icecream?
Perhaps soap making from lye ash?
Talk to you later, and God bless!

Yep, I know what you're saying!
Keep up the good informational videos!

Perhaps making wood ash lye soap!
You have yourself a good night!

I just hope I'm up to the task, as I'm no longer a "spring chicken", LOL!

My husband (fisherman) wants to do that, but I need the storage space under the pens for my bedding straw. I'm not letting him read this comment.
