  • "AMAZE THE NATIVES" !

  • lol i was guilty of attacking and ransacking villages and cities. LOL

  • Is there anyway to buy this game of even play it for free online somewhere? I loved this game. Couldn't remember the name for like 20 yrs...and then one day found it. Now I just can't find it at all.

  • Love this game. In fact, I'm going to play it right now on my C64 :D

  • I remember once, out of random searching I found the empire city or something like that. I walked very carefully to the chief and the game made a statement like "Congradulations you have found the empire city".

Yeah great I accidently bumped into him and the entire city turned on me. Shows what kind of conquistidor I would of made. LOL

  • oh my god i got lost when playing in the "new" new world, like NOT the real united states, froze up and unplugged our Atari XL1200 and went downstairs, crying telling my dad "i broke the computer dad cause i got lost!!" haha, good memories, i was 9 years old. :)

  • Does anyone have just the opening music anywhere?

  • @azuarc c64 DOT COM does, but you'll need a decent music player with chiptune support. Either [recommended] Foobar2000 with the SID Decoder component or WinAMP with the ChipAMP suite.

  • I don't remember how many times I played this - the "orignal" version was the best; there was some trick that I found where you could take over villages almost 100% of the time but I don't remember what it was. Something with a certain way to attack them...

  • Oh yeah, having at least one native bearer (hopefully many more!), you can pause walking and they'll tell you if something is nearby. There would never be more than one per "square" on the map. (I think they were 8x8.)

  • Anyone ever find any cities of gold in the game?

  • I remember I found at least one city back when I was a kid playing this, you end up with a giant cache of gold.

  • I found one today. Try looking for a single square island with a single mountain on it. Bring lots of men because you can only visit it once so carry as much as you can out! The natives are all white and gold colored, cool.

  • I remember having to pop in a 5 1/4 floppy to create a map disk. heh The magic of hard drives now.

  • I am Dan's daughter, Melanie and my brothers and I are finally to the place where we want to give dad's games a second shot. We are working on finding the right people to do the job. M.U.L.E. is likely to be our first release, but I've heard many people mention 7 Cities. I'm open to feedback and what you would like to see in a new release.

Thank you for your continued support in games that meant so much to my dad.

    Melanie Bunten

  • Many thanks to your father... his creativity and genius with Seven Cities and, especially, M.U.L.E is so appreciated. These games are a big part of my youth and make up some of my fondest memories of growing up in the 80's. Your father was ahead of his time. All the best to you now with your endeavors. I would welcome the opportunity to purchase and play a new version of these games. Again, all the best!

  • Melanie: MULE won't work these days. MULE was a communal game, and much of it is simply lost online, especially since MULE was elementary.

Seven Cities of Gold would be a far better choice to do a remake of.

  • @JAF1970

Mule is online availiable now. google for 'planet mule'. very good port/remake.

  • Greetings and thank you and your family for such a fine line of games. I spent literally house on end, playing Seven Cities of Gold.

I would love to see that re-created for Windows!

  • It is likely to be our second game out. We're currently working on MULE and I really hope the flash version will be ready by July.

    Thanks for the comment.

    Melanie

  • my favorite music from one of my favorite game from long ago......i had the atari 800 version though

  • game seems revolutionary for its time.

like the precursor to Sid Meier's Pirates!

Obvious now largely inspired by this game.

  • disc-swapping? omfg...

must've been hell back then to even play decent-sized games with complexities.

  • Ah,the memories! I played this game a lot on C-64.

  • I played this game when I was 5 and was good at it. At 30 YOA, I played it and found that there was no ending to this game. Anyone know of a site that has the entire world in a bitmap that shows all of the tribes/cities, rivers, gold mines, etc? I could not find all of the gold mines. I found all of the sites/land, river sources, emptied all of the cities of the gold, set up forts/missions, and maxed out the fleet. No end to this game but a great game by Dan Bunten none the less.

  • I like the 1993 DOS version better. 7CoG is one of the best games ever.

  • One of the greatest games ever!

  • I LOVED this game back in the days! I had the Atari 800 XL version and took me some weeks to figure out what this game was all about, you know, without a manual and pressing all the keyboard buttons every now and then to see if something new would happen.

When I finally got the hang of it I was hooked and spent long nights exploring the New World. I remember having one disk with my saved game with a lot accomplished but sadly my stupid brother erased it!

  • Recently I've tried to play the Amiga version with the WinUAE emulator but all the copies I've found on the web are crappy and won't let me start! Does anyone out there has a decent one?

  • Go to EmuAsylum and get yourself an Atari 800XL emulator and then all the roms (games) you want! Including this classic!

  • Oh yeah, I've played the Atari 800 XL version on Atari800WinPlus no prob, but now I want to try the Amiga version which has improved graphics; sadly there's not a lot info about that one on the web.

There's also a DOS remake out there, but the gameplay has suffered too many changes that it doesn't appeal me.

Fortunately WinUAE has improved a lot since the last time I played an Amiga game, so I guess soon I'll update my emulator and with a little luck I'll be able to finally play that version!

  • those where the days!

  • Oh man, I have always been so nostalgic about the theme song that I forgot how nostalgic I also get about the awesome sailing-the-vast-unfathomable ocean sound effects!! WOooooooo

  • Is this game available anywhere today? I really loved it back in the day.

  • You're supposed to offer the native gifts and befriend them!

    YDIW

  • But it's sooooo much easier to pacify them through violence and pillage their gold!

  • @matthewcobrien That's not how it really happened.

  • Memories... thanks!
