I have to ask, I'm a combat medic, and we were taught to only tie in the knot three times. Is it standard procedure in a hospital setting to pull the knot through five loops? I understand I was taught to work as fast as possible, due to the circumstances under which I work, but is it more secure with the five knots as opposed to three? Thanks.
@LegionLives Completely depends on the the suture type. Monofilament prolene should be tied more, up to 6 knots. Silk and braided vicryl, less; 3 should suffice.
Great explanation!!

LegionLives, number of knots depends on suturing material. silk needs only three knots, but vicril or prolene needs from 5 to 7
