Brilliant! Thanks so much for this. My Dad Rabbi Max Newman came from Tottenham where he was born in 1913. He came to the US where he had a synagogue in a dying-out Orthodox community in Cincinnati, Ohio which he kept going by rounding up a minyan every day! G-d forbid the other Orthodox synagogues unite with theirs to get the tenth man.
This is based on a story about the Congregation of Jacob Synagogue, though was filmed at Sandy's Row due to restoration work at the time. If you would like to be our tenth man then please do visit us at 351 - 353 Commercial Road, London E1 2PS. We have a Shabbos morning service starting 910am. Thank you!
Very touching movie and so delighted it was about Sandys Row. My grandpa was a founder member of the shul. It was his heart and soul, and always an important place for my family even tho' we hardly ever visited. I still have my father's stories in my head of women throwing down sweets from the gallery at the end of barmitzvahs, and the chazan sending out for a pint of beer from the local pub as the Yom Kippur service was coming to an end!
If anyone is ready to sell a copy of the film... PLEASE contact me!
