  • Due persone che hanno guardato questo video non amano il funky

  • Disregard females;

    Disregard currency;

    Acquire boogie.

  • I miss real music. All we got now is noise. Mind you there is some good pieces every now and then, but I really miss funk, jazz, rhythm and blues, and other big band sounds. Oh and I'm 22. Wasn't bored in the age of these bands, but I wish I was.

  • Everyone just wishes they were this fucking groovy.

  • This is myfavorite Kool and the Gang song. The lead singer of this song is their roadie Donald Boyce

  • It's like a sea of questloves!

  • yeah no, it's not live

  • Pulp Fiction anybody?

  • DAMN! Black people have SOUL and always have great rhythm for music...

  • weren't all the performances on soul train lip-synced with the recorded version?

  • The same could be said of White Men, most of us just repress our agressive nature whereas More Black Men embrace it, which is fine when it's done with a strong set of disciplines and morales.

EX: Don't fight dirty dont hit a man when he's down don't use a weapon on an unnarmed Man, those kind of traits have faded out of society sadly.

  • Is it called "Jungle boogie" because black people are like violent animals and the ghetto is the jungle. I'm not racist, I like the fact that black people are cool and violent.

  • if you hate this, why waste your time commenting... Kool and the Gang is one of the best Groups from my Generation.

  • 1:21 epic motorboating

  • @golyg

    you are one racist motherfaka.

    ~KKK

  • @golyg Sorry but that's so ignorant, there is a lot of good rap this is very similar to this type of music, you must be thinking of the stuff that is on the radio.

  • @monstaslaya You need to put name of those "similar types of music" so you dont look like a fkin stupid

  • @tiburcio9999 Search "New Jack Swing" it's a sub-genre of rap.

  • @golyg I'm black and i approve of Golyg's message!

  • @megiddragon im black and i approve of golyg's messege too! and i want more afros

  • @golyg( i'm white)......miss the old days!

  • @golyg RAP dosent suck, the rap you've heard probably does, but that's jsut a testament to your poor taste on music over all, is like saying love sucks cuz you've been heartbroken once or twice :)

  • i liked the part with the black guy

  • I keep looking at this video! The guy that does the spin, is keeping my attention! "Now shake it around" Get down, get down, get down...I'm dancing right now in my chair as I'm typing. Oh man! Think I might have a 70's and 80's party.

  • @isittootight can i come...has to be lots of fun with this kindof music

  • @lovethemusicmore1 Sure! Are you in Atlanta, GA?

  • sorry to say but this not live. Its lip synced, which was common on soul train at that time.

  • One the real, the lead singer/performer is my idol...

That motha is really GETTIN' DOWN!

Kool and The Gang were great...

  • i wish i was born in this ERA!

  • The singer is Don Boyce, he was with with them from 1973 through 1976. Kool and the Gang really didn't have a lead singer until they hired James(J.T.) Taylor and musically headed off in a new direction (not my favorite period). It's hard to believe now but in 1976 they were under a lot of pressure, disco was taking over, other bands were taking over (like Earth, Wind & Fire), and their latest album hadn't done well. Pity, this music has held up better.

  • I feel it never

  • I was born 20yrs too late........

  • This guy is so god damn funky. The dude with the deep voice. So good! He is seriously gigging. Hahahahaha awesome!

  • so many afros

  • The guy with the deep voice is the coolest mothafucker ever lol

  • @Casideee Sounds like the dude from the movie Shaft.

  • @Casideee Think that's why his name is "Kool!"

  • @BlikeNave

    Oh shi- ur right! lol

    Mind = blown

  • @Casideee : YES HE IS!!!!

  • Me gusta el ritmo de esta cancion. yeah baby!

  • cool!!!

  • This band and others of the time is the reason I learned to play tenor sax in high school and why I play bass guitar today. Really funky bass lines. As the for bigotry in some of comments, it has nothing to do with the music.

  • monkeys colection zoooooooooo lol

  • That guy in oranje in the front is really boogie'n it

  • @MariusLio Well they breed 'em like that

  • These guys made me learn to play a trumpet and damn they got the soul. Man I really miss the 70's and 80's they made you feel good. I wish todays music did that!!! Keep the FUNK IN YOU!!!!!!!

  • The freakin' BASSLINE gives me chills everytime...wowzers.

  • I have to sing the low part to this on friday... And watching this i'm starting to realise that guy has more flow than i could ever hope to have..

  • those niggas goin crazy!

  • get your frickin email address off the screen!!

  • jungle boogie...this is some gangsta shit right here

  • Wtf, is it a playback? Must be?!

  • Bad ass.

  • i love the soul train in the end :D this song is a classic and it will NEVER get old!

  • OH SHIT was i just jammin? YES

  • GANGSTA!!!!!

  • looks like usher with a beard

  • Sooooooooooooooooooooul Train!!!!!

  • how did Kool and the Gang go from bad-ass songs like this one to the pussy-ass shit like "Fresh"?

  • This is one of the hottest grooves looking back in the seventees. But, I don't think they thought it was that amazing as we do now. And I am not sure where the Soul Train went.

  • This was "Pre JT Era (James Taylor). Even though this was a mega hit for the band...I just couldn't "get into them" until JT arrived....with "Celebrate", "Joanna", "Get Down On It", "Cherish"........that's when Kool and the Gang began to roll (just my opinion). JT was "the voice".

  • Haha, ck one the only one!

  • This was my favorite song when I graduated elementary school in 1974!!

  • Holy crap! GREAT! Not sure it is disco though....more funk than disco

  • Holy crap! GREAT!

  • To anyone musicologist worth his or her mothafuckin' salt, this band is one of the tighest, most imaginative ensembles ever. Crazy fuckin' melodies, rhythms, beats, grooves, hooks and lyrics!

  • Sad that their lip syncing thing, @ 1:34 you can see and hear him say "Woooh!" but it doesn't go through the mic.

  • What's the name of that keyboard?

  • 1 person is in the clearcut, it seems.

  • i can shove my nose in a classy review and read about Mahler, Einstein and Picasso as pinnacles of civilisation..and i can dig it but unsung heroes of the funk like these dudes are up there with the best.. Grace, humour, musicianship and the baddestass dancin'. The absolutest shit!

  • Love it! Soul Brothers!

  • George Funky Brown was the best ever on the drums. No one did it like him. Do yall hear that beat. Omg

  • @mrpower328 I'm with you a 100% especially the last few minutes when he's doing all those super cool flams around the set, killer shit. Soul Train performances sucked because bands always lip synced. Check this live performance out on Midnight Special, George is getting after it 20 seconds in, very different groove, much faster. It is killer. Search for: Midnight Special-Kool & The Gang "Jungle Boogie"

  • This brother is so cool, I bet he doesn't even break a sweat.

  • SOUL TRAIN 4EVER;

  • cool but fonogram

  • the name of the singer?

  • amk liselisi

  • man, what a great video archive!! LOL!!

  • When Kool and the Gang was really cool. Not the watered down pop group that put out dreck in the 80s.

  • Donald Boyce and the REAL Kool and the Gang.

Greatest funk classic of all time.

  • Cooler than the Antarctic.. Get ur pimp on...

  • :D Buenas noches!

  • that dude singing is having the most fun ever.

  • @gooseandsmokes Why not? He's wearing the baddest suit ever...

  • is this playback?¿ ..........

  • Awesome, totally awesome.....

  • music back in the day was the greatest

  • This is awesome!!

However.... being a musician I must admit.....

I think the group is "faking" it or lip syncing.

The horn section is faking it. Real musicians don't puff their cheeks like the trumpet player. The "trumpet" player is actually holding a flueghorn which sounds NOTHING like a trumpet (the music that you hear). Also the bass voice guy can't do those "effects" in a microphone from the 1970's on live TV.

    I'm just sayin'....

This song is still the epitome of funk!!!!

  • @hardbopsax

They lip synced on Soul Train. One of my best friend's older brother was a Soul Train dancer in this era and I knew a few more dancers well into the 1990s.

As for the checks, well teachers tell you not to it but the lesson never stuck with the immortal Dizzy Gillespie and many of his less noteworthy horn playing brothers.

  • @hardbopsax Not necessarly true because Dizzie Gillespie had puffed cheeks but that was poor embisure. The fluegelhorn can be used in place of a trumpet. Also I can copy the voice effects without help of the mic.

  • @hardbopsax i love this song! i think you might be right though. sometimes his vocals line up with the video and sometimes not....dont know about the trumpet, but this sounds exactly like the cd version while other live versions of this song ive heard may be played faster or have a different feel to them. i saw one live version where he played a horn that was alot smaller than this one too. great song non the less. also at .37 sec look at the keyboard players lips move way out of sync.

  • get down, get down!!!

  • this seems to have better vocals than the other records, if this isn't truly live

  • "One memorable trademark was that he distended his cheeks while playing. Some may believe this was due to poor technique, but this is not the case and is in fact a result of muscle tissue damage."

-Kaye, Bernard I.(1982) of the Orbicularis Oris in Trumpet Players (Satchmo's Syndrome) (Discussion). Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, The American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons.

While many serious tpt players play flugelhorn, they are two different inst. w/diff sounds & uses.
