Yeah, I wish White people nowadays could make music that was this good too. And Asians, and Latinos, and anyone who makes music. Let's not act like Black music is the only kind in decline now. We need some damn SOUL in our music.
"jungle boogie" While walking to the store to get a pack of Newports a dime bag and a 40 ounce and shots ring out you need to "get down" and think about all the people you were giving the mad face to all last week and pray you don't get capped.
I miss real music. All we got now is noise. Mind you there is some good pieces every now and then, but I really miss funk, jazz, rhythm and blues, and other big band sounds. Oh and I'm 22. Wasn't bored in the age of these bands, but I wish I was.
The same could be said of White Men, most of us just repress our agressive nature whereas More Black Men embrace it, which is fine when it's done with a strong set of disciplines and morales.
EX: Don't fight dirty dont hit a man when he's down don't use a weapon on an unnarmed Man, those kind of traits have faded out of society sadly.
Is it called "Jungle boogie" because black people are like violent animals and the ghetto is the jungle. I'm not racist, I like the fact that black people are cool and violent.
@golyg Sorry but that's so ignorant, there is a lot of good rap this is very similar to this type of music, you must be thinking of the stuff that is on the radio.
@golyg RAP dosent suck, the rap you've heard probably does, but that's jsut a testament to your poor taste on music over all, is like saying love sucks cuz you've been heartbroken once or twice :)
I keep looking at this video! The guy that does the spin, is keeping my attention! "Now shake it around" Get down, get down, get down...I'm dancing right now in my chair as I'm typing. Oh man! Think I might have a 70's and 80's party.
The singer is Don Boyce, he was with with them from 1973 through 1976. Kool and the Gang really didn't have a lead singer until they hired James(J.T.) Taylor and musically headed off in a new direction (not my favorite period). It's hard to believe now but in 1976 they were under a lot of pressure, disco was taking over, other bands were taking over (like Earth, Wind & Fire), and their latest album hadn't done well. Pity, this music has held up better.
This band and others of the time is the reason I learned to play tenor sax in high school and why I play bass guitar today. Really funky bass lines. As the for bigotry in some of comments, it has nothing to do with the music.
These guys made me learn to play a trumpet and damn they got the soul. Man I really miss the 70's and 80's they made you feel good. I wish todays music did that!!! Keep the FUNK IN YOU!!!!!!!
This is one of the hottest grooves looking back in the seventees. But, I don't think they thought it was that amazing as we do now. And I am not sure where the Soul Train went.
This was "Pre JT Era (James Taylor). Even though this was a mega hit for the band...I just couldn't "get into them" until JT arrived....with "Celebrate", "Joanna", "Get Down On It", "Cherish"........that's when Kool and the Gang began to roll (just my opinion). JT was "the voice".
To anyone musicologist worth his or her mothafuckin' salt, this band is one of the tighest, most imaginative ensembles ever. Crazy fuckin' melodies, rhythms, beats, grooves, hooks and lyrics!
