  • my brother had 2 hamsters when he was about 8 - one was SPG and the other Cliff Richard

  • 0:08 hahaha

  • Thanks for this. Love the song, hate the series. Can't believe I watched the whole thing. (what was I thinking? Hope I don't get possessed by bad dirty knickers, corn flakes, lentils and Neil! Alka Seltzer please

  • Love this song

  • One of the best songs I ever saw on the Young Ones, so glad I found this here.

  • The 80s,great music, comedy, great live.Bring it back

  • ".... trying to change the light bulb !!" LOL

  • Brings back some good memories. I saw these on the Pyramid Stage on a glorious sunny day in Glastonbury in 1986 and they were great. My mate managed to get backstage and meet a few of the band after the gig

  • Great song thanx for sharing

    Peace

  • lush song, and very rare....oh and id love to smash er pasty

  • lush song, and very rare

  • allways loved this song

  • I've got a video of Amazulu playing this live in 1984 on my channel if you're interested.

  • thnx for showing this clip, Margo......I have enjoyed Amazulu ever since I saw the 'Excitible" video.....since then got to collected a few UK mags that featured the group..sad that they never made it big here in the USA

  • Good job Margo!!

I grew up on this show and who would have thought that the music was so ahead of its time!!

There is NOT a band on The Young Ones that sucks!!

  • My 2 daughters were brought up on Amazulu along with Tom Tom club, B52's, Bow wow wow etc. I'm so glad I educated them with great music & none of this x factor shite!

I wish Amazulu would get back together like most bands are these days & hit the road! Me & mine would be 1st in the queue!!

  • Ah'm a Glaswegian !!!

  • this is great, they need to get this out on single

  • great song, like an2wat i was looking for an original version too, margo, were you on nevermind the buzzcocks a few years ago

  • This version is brilliant and utterly irresistible! Is it available anywhere other than this video clip (which has numerous interruptions from various Young Ones)?

The version released as a single is different and nowhere near as good as this.

  • @TheLovePlums - Hi I don't think this version was ever commercially available. I think we recorded it especially for the Young Ones, and the single and 12" versions were a different production, and over-egged in my humble opinion. It was all a long time ago and the details are a bit hazy. Cheers

  • @bulkela Can we get this version from the BBC its so much better then the album version

  • @paddywishbone Sorry I don't know...I have it on a vhs tape, but have no means of transferring digitally. I'll have to look through my cassette (!) collection to see if I have a version good enough quality. I agree its better than the album version - 'produced' by Jerry Dammers (Specials), honestly I think we did a better job ourselves e.g. this one - I always preferred our demos to whatever the so-called producers that were foisted upon us did.

  • thank you for sharing this i remember seeing this show many years ago and the song stayed with me and i never remembered what the song was called or the artist. thanks to youtube others with similar interests found and posted the video.

  • I'm a Glaswegian....lol timeless quote from SPG!....lolol

  • Other than The Ace of Spades and House of Fun this was about the only song I enjoyed on the young ones.

Anyway love the young ones, one of the best old comedies around.

  • Amazulu

Ohh Is that right I'm a glaswegian.

    Classic, I love it.

  • Takes me back ! I have Excitable on 12" but this is far better!!!

Remember always thinking that the highlight of the Young Ones was the band!

    AMAZULU, NINE BELOW ZERO, etc

  • Margo why wasn't Amazulu labelled with the 2Tone/Ska revival as this song and your excellent 1983 'Cairo' was in that mould.

  • is their an actual song with out the young ones in it

  • this is our song baby lets dance

  • Thanks short haired guitarist.

I think I've ended up seeing Amazulu live more times than any other band. Always fun to watch - hope it was just as much fun for you to be in the band.

But more importantly ... did the lightbulb get changed?

  • Hey, Margot:

You were the cute one; you deserved more close-ups!

    Your sincere admirer,

    Max

  • Skanky little tune! Love that bit "Amazulu", "oh really I'm a Glaswegian"

  • Why dont they make shows of quality like this these days? Great actors with a love of life! I miss the Young Ones!

  • she reminds me alot of annabella lwin.

but i cant find this song anywhere. which album of theirs was this on???

  • Margot, the guitarist of the band wrote:

Buleke wrote (Dec. 26th 2008):The album was 'Amazulu' released by Island Records in the UK. The track Moonlight Romance was originally released as both a single and an extended 12" version in about 1984. I think the album was licensed to Mango and Putumayo in the USA, probably deleted by now!

  • any ideas as to where i could find it? i tried amazon and everything.

  • @Dutchmarc66 A VHS video compilation was also released at the same time as the album containing all vids to that point, bizarelly Too Good To Be Forgotton vid is only about 1 and a half minutes long though. Record company seemed to really screw Amazulu over later on, as I recall they were instrumental in insisting the band became a 3 piece (citing they couldnt afford the original line up). A long overdue CD re-release is surely overdue, Amazulu remain criminally overlooked!

  • Saw this one on tv a few days ago..haha..crazy uk basterds!

    ONELOVE!!

UK!! the best music, the best humor!

And the Dutch supply the best ganja and painthings!!

    Got so much love!!!!!

  • everybody knows that in these comedies the ordience is fake recorded :D

  • Great music this has always been a favorite song of mine, nice to see posted. Could you share your experiences shooting this episode with The Young Ones?

  • Racked up £135 phone bill in Paris last week on my iphone trying to remeber this record..

  • 80´s exotic, reminiscent band!

  • i cut her hair the other day the one with the sax lesley beaCH!

  • You rokk Margo!

  • I still have this on on video, I must say I love this song, cheers the soul up haha ^^ Thankyou so much for posting this - it makes my day XD

  • 1.36: 'amazulu! oh, is that right ? i'm a glaswegian!' hilarious!! LOL!!!!!!!!

  • i love vyv's dancing at the beginning :D

  • God, I remember this episode and this band!

  • Thanks for that. The house they filmed in was in 'Coddrington Road' in Bishopston, Bristol. The launderette they went to is still there, I believe and Bristol North Swimming baths was also the police station that Neil joined up in. Now and again, my mates and I used to bunk off school to watch it being filmed. We saw Madness do 'Our House'. But don't tell anyone though! The 'Keebab and Calculator' is called 'The Cock of the North' in Henleaze, still there too, I believe.

    Halcyon days!

  • Hehe

Woah it was really filmed in Bristol?

    :D

  • It certainly was. the house was in 'Codrington Road', not 'Coddrington'. My mistake! The latter 'Only Fools and Horses' were filmed in Bristol too. 'Nelson Mandela House' is on my fire stations ground!

  • I adore this song! Am I right in thinking it is called 'Moonlight Romance'?

'The Young Ones' was filmed in Bristol about ten minutes where I used to live, (my parents still live there), and in one episode you can see my house! (Tenuous link, I know!). The 'Fascist Pig Bank' they robbed in the final epsiode was a swimming pool I learnt to swim in. It has now closed, but still stands awaiting development.

    Happy days!!!

  • So do I! Yes, it's called Moonlight Romance. I fell in love with it (and the cute lead singer!--apparently her name is Anne-Marie Ruddock) the first time I saw this Young Ones episode on MTV in the 80's here in the States.

  • More justification that every band that appeared in The Young Ones were brilliant. Amazulu were certainly no exception.

  • Great song. It should have been a big hit.

  • I had forgot bout SPG, the hardest hamster in Scotland. Wish i could go back to then, life was good.

  • Really really love this song! Thanks for posting this!

  • The singer is Anne-Marie Ruddock

  • Your band brought a lot of joy to everyone. The 80's were a great time to be alive to enjoy the music and your talent was very much enjoyed. Thank You.....

  • My cat's name is Special Patrol Group.

  • Well, I think Special Patrol Group's a stupid name for a cat.

  • Why do people keep saying Basia is in the video? The woman does NOT look a thing like her! Jayzuz!

On another note, I always liked this song. I first heard it when I first saw the Young Ones series on MTV back in the late 80's.

  • Hi all. I am the short-haired guitarist and its DEFINITELY not Basia. (My name is Margo, fyi). We recorded this in 1984. I played with Amazulu from 1982 -1986, when the group split in half and became a three piece, without the drummer, bass player and me. Glad y'all like the track.

  • hi im a fan

i just wanted to know the album this song is in

  • The album was 'Amazulu' released by Island Records in the UK. The track Moonlight Romance was originally released as both a single and an extended 12" version in about 1984. I think the album was licensed to Mango and Putumayo in the USA, probably deleted by now!

  • I´ve always been a fan and here´s what we all want to know: what happened to all of you??

  • I am no longer in contact with all of the original band so can't be completely sure. Of the other 3 with whom I am still in touch, one way or t'other we are all still playing.

  • @bulkela i would love to get this version is it really not available???

  • SPG was a Glaswegian hamster? XD

  • It's not Basia, that's direct info. Sorry.

  • Of course it's not Basia singing. But check the musicians!

  • No, I meant that she's not in the video at all. At least a VERY reliable source said that, and she got that info direct.

  • i have heard the same from the same source. i can see why it is believed to be basia but the more i watch it the more i can see it isn't.

  • I'm not so sure that's Basia singing...different facial structure, on the digital blow-up. Anyone know for sure?

    Good song and performance...

  • oh fuck, i watched them so many times and i've never noticed she was there, nice

  • Crazy video but thanx for the clip especially of BASIA

    Mr. Chip's a fan since 1984 w/military in Germany

  • I wish they would re-air these on BBC America. Now all they play are episodes of "Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares" and "Cash in the Attic"; it sucks.

  • WOW theres a bbc in america? kool.

did they ever show only fools and horses over there?

  • What an honor! To be parodied! Too bad it amounted to nought. Basia needed a movie contract.

  • Neil "I'm the only one who does anything around here!"

Rik "Oh Really! And what about Amazulu??"

This song is great - I can't find it anywhere -

  • It's called "Moonlight Romance." It is on one of their 1984 albums. Can't remember the name but google the song title and you should be able to find it.

  • Actually I have the Album from the 80's it was called simply.... AMAZULU - but who has a record player anymore? :) I can't find it online to D/L or even get on CD - Actually, This young ones episode is where I first discovered Amazulu -

  • Same here. I even tried looking on Real Rhapsody, but they are blocked. Probably some kind of contract BS.

Glad to see others appreciate good, obscure music!!!!!

  • I discovered in exactly the same place! :)

  • me too! this song is super!!!

  • What's this got to do with Basia?

  • Basia is the one with the short hair playing the guitar behind the singer.

  • gosh, i remember this:)!. and i remember the good times for series like "TYO" on polish public tv...:(. kto by pomyślał, że wsród amazulek jest trzetrzelewska?

  • Amazulu! Oh, is that right, am a glasweigan

  • Lmao that is my favourite line to

  • Ah, YES!! THANKS for posting!!!

  • OMG I love this version of Moonlight Romance! Thanks for posting this.
