  • More like this and KatG would be one of my favorite bands. But they went pop. :( Good pop, but not like this.

  • For anyone who came for Eric B and Rakim, the sample is at 2:07 and then 2:24

  • James, Fred, Maeo, Jimmy Nolen: Eat your hearts out.

  • Feeling the music

  • gang starr also sampled this on their first album, "now what you hear is not a test!"

  • Hahaha i love the old school funky letters on the album, that always, makes me, feal good [:

  • K. C. and the Sunshine Band did a better version of the song!

  • Eric B and Rakim also sampled this for 'Don't sweat the Technique'.

  • Kool & The Gang were the best!

  • @N15man No Kool and the Gang ARE the best !

  • they used to be really good... before the 80's IMO... but hey, the ladies love the disco tunes, so full respect to Kool and the Gang, despite the cheesy disco tunes :-) btw, FAT BREAK!!! Can imagine this in a Kool Herc set from the late 70's...

  • great =) (=

  • Many Thanks For The Post

  • Uptown - "dope on plastic"...then a thousand more!!

  • Yeahhhhh Funk baby

  • The break at 1:41 has been sampled by a lot of artists like:

A Tribe Called Quest - "Scenario"

    Beastie Boys - "Professor Booty"

    NWA -" Real Niggaz"

MC Brains - "Everybody's Talkin' about MC Brains"

    X-Clan - "Shaft's Big Score"

    and so on...

  • @MystroMusicMan the one :49 to 56 was used by Amerie too.

  • @djkaneck1 I though she might've sampled for "1 Thing" but, not sure. Someone said "Hate 2 Love You" but upon 1st listen I didn't catch any of this song there either.

  • ~VERY NICE~VERY CUTE~VERY COOL~

  • So did Eric B. and Rakim!

  • @317and88 Don't Sweat The Technique.

  • Gangstarr sampled this!

  • Jersey City Stand Up!

  • dope music 100%

  • Funky as hell!

  • one of kool and the gang's most sampled tunes.

  • questi sono i veri kool the gang, funk stile james brown yehaaaaa!!!

  • don't sweat the technique

  • This album is still OOP, very hard to find :s

  • Jersey City Represent

  • Sho' Nuff!! Like a m##$#erf^$ker. Vintage!!

  • No Doubt!!! 201!!!!!

  • @Kindelan Before Snooki!

  • Amerie!!!

  • UPtown samples this also that dope on plastic song

  • Oh this song is soo sick!!! Used by GangStarr and Eric B & Rakim.....whew!!!! Crazy!!

  • Hey let me know the song that Gangstarr did when they sampled this. I know EricB & Rakim did it with 'Don't Sweat the Technique'.

  • GangStarr's "Take a Rest" off the Step in the Arena album. Hip Hop still lives family.......

  • Also sampled by Organized Konfusion from their first record on the song called "Intro", which incidentally also has the line "wack mcs, your time is up", sampled by Del on his second album.

This is probably my favorite Kool and The Gang track, Good Times being a close second. The early Kool and The Gang and Earth, Wind and Fire records were incredible!

  • You are so right there. I loved the early 'Kool' stuff and have this album. Early EWF awesome too with 'Keep your head to the Sky'. Nothing like this stuff today. All these groups are sampling because, sadly, they lack originality.

  • that made me make the funk face

  • Good..I'm happy to know that someone mentioned "Take A Rest" by Gang Starr ..However, what about the famous, "Don't Sweat The Technique? [horns & drums]

  • I love Kool & The Gang?

Have you heard Amerie's Hate2LoveU? She samples this song.

  • No, I haven't had the pleasure.

  • Ditto!!

  • the breakbeat got sampled alot for early 90s rave.

  • Gotcha! It's amazing how a whole generation relates to songs by it's sample taken for another song. Mad Crazy. I should be mad but art and expression is eclectic so I just wonder and appreciate in my way and respect others for their way.

  • @vegunited06 Don't forget Eric B and Rakim.

  • Thanks, I had been checking out the Ohio Players before I played some Kool & the Gang,

got a little cofused, guess I need a little more sleep..

  • A little Jazz and funk, the Ohio Players got it together. Rukuloe obviously has no taste

and sophistication when it comes to great music. The smooth sounds of the Ohio Players

will live on for ever. Thank you for posting.

  • I agree that the Ohio Players were great, but what you are hearing now is Kool and the Gang, "Give It UP" 1969 debut lp.

  • this originally appeared on K&TG's debut self-titled lp.

  • Thank You! I think you are right. I was trying to go off memory, 38 years is a long time. I do remember Roberta Flack promoting them to get the word out about this group of young men from North Jersey.

  • Ieww YAAACK this idiot music is terrible

  • Don't comment if you don't get it. Didn't your parents teach you if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything, Ohh that's right, you were not in line when they were passing out home training.

  • So many hip hop samples were taken from this hit, Gangstar, Take a rest was one of them

  • I'm a big Gangstar fan. True hiphop of the 90's. Nothin' like the original
