CARMEL SHOULD HAVE WON!!!!!!!! THAT IS CRAP... WE STILL TALK ABOUT IT. BUT ON FIRDAY CARMEL BEAT WAREN PAY BACK. HARDEST TEAM OUT FOR THE SEASON. BOO YAAHH
@DetectiveJewhat He caught it out of bounds because the Carmel player got him while he was in the air and PUSHED him out of bounds. He would've landed in bounds had the Carmel player not tackled him.
@DetectiveJewhat I'm not sure honestly. All I know is at 0:09 the Carmel player wasn't looking for the ball at all.... He just went straight for the player, and when he jumped up to catch the ball, the Carmel player was already tackling him. He definitely would've caught that in bounds if the Carmel player hadn't got to him.
@DetectiveJewhat It's a tough call really. I mean, they can't go back and look at it, they have to make the call right there on the spot. Obviously, the referee thought that the Warren Central player could've made that catch in bounds.
This wasn't a controversial call. The thing with it is in those situations is if they are pushed out while in the air like he was its considered in bounds where he was taken out.
And who made it to state this year fellas, hmm not Carmel or Warren central :) the school that has only been here for 5 years the fishers tigers who beat Carmel in the 2nd round and Warren losin to lc in the 1st round lol, the hcc is comin back to run this state move over mic
i am a huge warren fan and yes the call was sketch but life has taught us that life is not fair. You pick yourself up off the ground dust off your cleets and get back out there and play the next play.
In closing i wanna say i was very upset when after the game all the Carmel faithfull just up and walked out the stadium and didnt stay and support thier team when they go thier awards. they played hard all year and sacrafised thier time and energy fir you all to walk out on them. For shame.
Ok as a Warren alum, fan, former player i was at the game. Was the call sketch? Yes
The carmel defender had his hand in Mcgee's face and was not looking at ball equaling to an eventual Pass Interfernce call in my eyes. Coach Mo and his staff let that Carmel team down by not calming down his player and getting them ready for the 2pt conv. They had every chance in the world to win the game in both OT's.
Now i know you say but the carmel player had been playing so hard that they had nothing left.
im glad carmel lost because BEFORE the mccutcehon-carmel game Clint thayer Mccutcehon qb said watch we will hit you in the mouth meaning watch we will suprise you so the bitch ass queer carmel coach in the pre game press confrence said mccutcehon sucks so badwe r brining in 40 freshman watch out thayer halftime 30-0 carmel mcc scores 16 unanswered point s
Well who gives a dang... warren central (my school) beat carmel by 12 points or something at the classic like 2 weeks ago. So yeah, crap call but warrens still better than carmel. Go Warriors!
How is peetzman from Warren but He reffers to carmel as "WE", lol just like a dumb Carmel Pice of shit.. He was hit before the reciver touched the ball, look at my page for the slo. mo
@youtap12 there is no force out rule in high school.. its a judgmental call but look at the way the momentum of the receivers body. he would of landed out
From that angle i guess the ref casn say he was forced out...... but it really doesnt look like the contact msade was enough to force the player out of bounds. I think its a judgement call and the ref in moy opinion made the incorrect call. Some could always argue he was pushed out but i disaggree
No matter wat he went out with his own enertia he wasn't pushed out he was already out then pushed. The reff got fired but that doesn't give us our title back, or our state ring back. That same reff called another bs call and that was the end of it for Carmel
Wrong. There is a force out rule in Indiana High School Football. Either way, there's also a pass interference rule, the receiver was impacted prior to the ball arriving. It's at least another play, at most a touchdown.
@BatmanINDY there is a forceout rule i established that, but only if he was going the opposite direction as the reciever, last time i checked, he was going the same direction
Incorrect. Read the rule book. It says nothing about opposite direction, it simply says that a receiver is forced out. By letter of the rule, this call was correct. By the spirit of the rule, it is probably not correct. Regardless, there was contact prior to the ball getting there. At least it's another play, at most it's a touchdown.
From a completely neutral fan at this game, I can say this call was terrible. It hurt Carmel, but did not cost them the game. Too bad for the call, because it was a spectacular game.
However, much like the previous state finals, Carmel's coaching did not "play all 4 quarters". Getting a lead only to try to run out the clock (prevent offense) is not a winning strategy.. imo. Play to your strengths. And play to win, don't play to NOT lose.. wtf. Carmel was scoring at will when trying to.
it took a real man to say something like that for real... I am a Lawrence Central Alum therefore I really don't care who won this game... However that was a terrible call, and I hope that ref is banned from refereeing any competitive sports for the rest of his life... Maybe peewee soccer or tee-ball could use an umpire... Congratulations Carmel... You guys had a hell of a season... If any Warrior wears that ring with pride... they are a fool... Good Job north side. But I still got love for LC...
It's that kind of honesty that makes me feel better about the situation. I have absolutely NO connection to either team, but I am a tremendous fan of high school football. This was a shame...an absolute embarrassment. These are supposed to be the "cream of the crop" officiating the state championship games, too!
@peetzaman521069 Im from warren and the call was right, this isn't the regular nfl rules, when a player gets forced out of bounds like he did and he lands with the ball in his hands it is ruled a touchdown.
@peetzaman521069 No one read the rules in this situation and obviously you didn't either. If the warren player would not of been forced out while he was in the AIR then it would of been out of bounds and Carmel would have won. This was just a situation of a hidden rule that everyone knows about they jsut act surprised because they know it shouldn't of happened.
force out rule means u still have to get at least one foot in bounds and if then u get shoved out then its a force out but theres no way he could of gotten that in bounds
Wrong. That's not what the rule means, but does it even matter? After watching the replay more than a dozen times, it is ridiculously obvious that the WR was jumping laterally and was definitely heading out of bounds. The DB really didn't even make that much body contact, either. Terrible, terrible, terrible call and it's a shame that it determined a state championship.
oh and the g thirteen no one thinks carmels rich just stuck up little pussys and u wanan talk botu winnign state in this decade witch isnt even over yet we have won 5 state championships 4 of them in a row and if i rememebr right u lost state last year to and warrens gonna win state again next year that makes 6 in one decade
You are the most ignorant fuck on this forum... I hope you're not one of those sorry ill mannered bastard kids that sat the sideline while all the real men that didn't boast and brag over winning a game that they really should have lost... Four of those championships were under Coach Massey, a descendent of my bloodline. and he would quickly teach you to shut your damn mouth and be a better man. I hope you are on the team and your coach makes you do bear crawls for hours... Wear your mouthpiece!
carmel stop beign bitches your crying like little babeis over this shit if u were so good then you should of been so far ahaed then that play wouldent of mattered and it went into voer tiem u had chances to win but you didnt and highschool rules state plays cant be reviewed also if a player is pushed and goes out of bounds it counts as a catch stop bitchin cuz warrens the best
If Warren was so damn good why were you down and need to go for two to take it into overtime... Why weren't you so far ahead if you're so much better than Carmel... You really are ignorant... Damn is Warren IPS now? Your whole argument went against your claim... I hope you are one of those students who plans on attaining a position in a career that doesn't require any type of serious education... I went to LC too partna... so don't think Im one of those pissed off rich kids whining about a loss
and from this angle it looks like its not a force out
but if you see the reply from a side view the Carmel player is pushing him out of bounds before he even has possession of the ball and when he catches it he lands out of bounds so I say it was a fair call
Remember the Pike vs Carmel game
remember when the ref gave them the touchdown when it clearly hit the ground before he caught it nobody bitched just kept playing
Oh, and by the way Carmel, the rest of the state doesn't hate you. They're not jealous of you. Frankly, we don't spend any more or less time thinking about you than we do any other suburb.
WC, congrats on the win. Were you helped by a questionable call? Yup. No doubt. But to your credit, you did win in overtime. The call didn't win the game for you; which is the point the Carmel fans all seem to be forgetting.
Hey Carmel fans, quit your whining. First of all, there's no way any of you can say where this kid would have landed. That's specifically why the push-out rule exists and as the rule reads, the right call was made. I'm not a WC fan or a Carmel fan. I've covered both teams in various capacities. I say congrats to both on a great year.
If he was pushed out then he still would be close to the inzone. I was there and saw it, and even the warren player who caught it said he was out. So overall the Greyhound had won the championship and that all the overtimes were a total waste of time and complete and utterly bullshit. Hopefully because of this call the referee who called it will be fired because of such a lousy call.
Actually, the player who caught it sayed he was in and was pushed out. Read the indy star. And no, the ref should not be fired just because he made one call that carmel didn't like. I was there too, and although I thought it was a horrible call at the time, I now see why he called it that way. I still think his own momentum would have forced him out, but it's impossible to tell without a review. Unfortunately, there's no review in HS, so lets let it go. BTW, I'm a HUGE Carmel fan.
lol. it's called a force out. obviously if they put in the rule nobody knew about it so i think it's a good call. plus it's carmel. they just don't know how to finish off a state run. back2back state runners up. congrats boys.
jamnitro, the rule doesn't say that the player must have otherwise landed in bounds, it just says if he's forced out of bounds, a plain text reading of the rules book shows that the correct call was made. At the very least it's a pass interference call, and warren would have had another opportunity at the score.
Pass interference? WTF? C'mon...get the emotion out of your assessment. The key word in deciphering this play is "MOMENTUM". The WR's momentum was clearly heading towards the sideline and the DB barely made any contact at all. The great thing about YouTube is that you can watch the play over and over again! It's so obvious it's sickening. I could care less about either program, but Carmel got absolutely ram-rodded. It's an utter shame.
wow this is crazy. but i now everyone hates carmel because were rich and stuff and were really not (basketball team sponsored by air jordan) but really everyone is just jealous of us because we have won state so much. I mean we have more championships then most highschools combined in Indiana .. so quit hating we just have better talent then you.
My dad's friend is a referee for high school football. they made a new rule just last year that force outs no longer exist. so this was a very bad call!
thats not true at all that rule is very relevant in high school play that is y the play was ruled a touchdown and is a touchdown and that is y Warren Central Is 2009 Indiana Football State Champions
Here is a partial quote for Bobby Cox, Assistant Commissioner of the IHSAA, "It's a judgment call and the official did not misapply the rule."
Pooper, This is why some officials (like your dad's friend) will continue to do nothing more than freshman level games. Just because one calls himself an official does not guarantee that he knows or applies all the rules correctly.
we didnt give up in overtime we came close to beating them but we got screwed in the second OT. There is no way that was offensive pass interference if anything it was Def. Pass interference
Very tacky and amature of the Carmel coach to run his mouth while he is upset. Ref called the call right away on the criteria he (and the teams) have to work with. Both teams had double over-time to win. The more Carmel whines, the sweeter it is for everyone else - grow up.
This video doesn't show the whole story. He was going out of bounds whether Seward (2) touched him or not. Even If he gave him a shove, his first foot landed two feet out of bounds. And this call is made by a ref who had been laughing and conversing with the Warren sideline and coaches all game long (illegal).
It was a terrific game from start to finish, with great playing by both teams. I think that the call was justifiable given the force-out rule in high school football, and it's a shame that so many Carmel fans, players, and coaches have decided that the game was "stolen" from them.
26W26 you want some cheeze with that whine. Carmel could have celebrated a whole year but they chose the 11 minutes 52 seconds of the fourth quarter instead. A real coach does not let this happen. Mabye if he was doing his job and not trying to do the refs. job he would have won. The rule does not leave room for judgement calls. The contact was made in the direction where the reciever came came down therefore it gets ruled a force out. Carmel had multiple chances to win, they choked. Coach too.
The rule in indiana is if the momentum is change by the contact then it can be ruled a force out. The player was going the same way the whole time. It was out of bounds. total bull crap call
I thought momentum also dealt with the speed someone is going and not just the direction. If the guy going for the ball is sped up by someone hitting him from behind, that's a change in momentum no matter if they were going the same direction or not. Am I wrong?
Even in that respect though, it's still a sketchy call. There might be a slight change here. But the ref called this one live so it's understandable he would assume that(if that was what he was looking for)
the only reason its controversial bc the ref didnt signal that he was pushed out..yes there is a push out rule in high school he just didnt signal it so everyone was pissed best game ive seen in a while congrats to both teams
I agree that warrens done for a long time.. Team to look out for next year is CG. D1 players and a hell of a coaching staff. Warren lost everyone similar to our 2008-09 cg team.. But wc doesn't have anyone left.. But il say I will give it to the Carmel program for how many state trips they've made..
and whats with this coach mo crap? He is the most humble guy ever...look at him after last year's defeat! He is a great leader and isnt affraid to call a win a steal..because he is the best in the business and KNOWS what he is talking about. and back to the $ comment....if we are so rich...then how come we arent sponsored by under armour and have fancy uniforms and stuff? hmmmm think about it
It's very encouraging to see some of the Carmel players exude more class than their coach.
The Carmel players were upset, but two of the Greyhounds' leaders -- quarterback Adam Shaffer and linebacker Brian East --refused to use it as an excuse.
"Obviously, we were all disappointed,'' said Shaffer, who was 17-for-31 for 248 yards and tied a state finals record with five touchdown passes. "But I'm not going to sit here and complain about the officials. Obviously, the chips fell where they did."
Added East: "My first thought was he was out, but the ref called it. Stuff like that happens. If we deserved the state championship, we would have fought through it.''
Kudos to the TRUE leaders of the Carmel football team. Hey Coach Mo, take a lesson from these guys!
are u joking me? warren is gonna win state like 10000 more times. they always have big players! carmel got cheated...even with the force out rule. his MOMENTUM carried him out of bounds. he caught the dang ball out of bounds...even if he was hit after the fact. An im SICK and TIRED of hearing carmel is rich and all this crap. NOT true ill show u plenty of poor people here anyday. this is ridiculous. warren, this shouldnt feel like a win to u.
Looks like carmel choked again. money cant buy a championship, The rough and tough boys from warren central are the best. your coach says they were cheated, tell him to read the rule book, you cant force out in high school. What was the excuse last year against the trojans. Get your noses out of the air and play 4 quarters of football and stop celebrating 12 minutes before the games over. There are 3-A teams that could beat carmel, carmels coaches actions after the game were pathetic, cry baby.
Sure it was a sketchy call, but if Carmel was REALLY a better team than Warren, they wouldn't have let them get a two point conversion and they wouldn't have let them beat them in 2 OT. so to all of you people and the Carmel coach who are crying about this YOU LOST! The correct phrase for this game is Carmel COULD'VE won not SHOULD'VE grow the hell up all of you.
if you don't believe me pause at the 6 seconds and look at the 5th "lineman" from the far left when he pops out of his stance he is a good yard behind the other 4 linemen on the line, my guess is he is an eligible tight end. and to be honest the carmel guys feet came in, in bounds so warrens guy probably could have too, there is a forceout rule in HS football, and its only 1 foot. Bad call? eh its debatable but WC defiantly deserves the win
ok people the formation is not illegal the four linemen on the left are on, the 5th is on his hip not on...the center = 5, and the eligible receiver next to him is 6 and then the receiver on the far right is 7...
im from center grove and even ill admit that carmel should have won, no doubt about it. and what happened in OT doesnt even matter because the game ended when warren missed the touchdown. carmel should have won.
Man excuses excuses. They still had a chance to win it in overtime... and didn't bottom line they lost. There won't be an * next to this win or loss no matter how you look at it.
Ok this goes for all of the carmel haters again, not even randy moss could of brought that ball back in play and to clarify on that force out rule and it goes if the PLAYER IS HIT FROM PUSHING HIM A DIFFERENT DIRECTION OF WHERE HE WAS JUMPING TOWARDS. so that was a bullshit call. and even the ref and IHSAA commissioner openly admitted the call was wrong! so CARMEL STATE CHAMPS 2009 28-20!
The ref, and the IHSAA did NOT admit the call was wrong, you're throwing things against the wall, and seeing it they stick. Your definition of the rule makes no sense-work on strengthening your excuse. Refresh my memory, what was Carmel's excuse last year vs Center Grove? Im sure there were some, I just can't remember.
Actually they both did, its in the IndyStar and the Chicago Tribune. And no carmel had no excuse last year we just choked but this year there was a bullshit call everyone knows it just warren wants to take the credit for something that they did jack shit for. so cwbitch, where did u get the information of them not admitting it? it was on the NEWS for one, and in those newspapers for two. anything else?
But in the short term, Bobby Cox said Saturday's officiating crew handled the situation properly. "It's clear in the video he (Magee) was inbounds when he left the ground," Cox said. "He's an eligible receiver. It's clear he was contacted by a defender. It's clear he caught the ball. It's clear he landed out of bounds. All of that is within the rule and it's the official's call (whether he would have come down inbounds without the contact).
"Now, we can argue based on what color jersey you were wearing or where you were sitting in the stadium if that was a good or bad call. But that doesn't matter. It's a judgment call and (Schneider) did not misapply the rule."
I don't see any admission that the call was incorrect. But then again, I'm reading it from a neutral viewpoint :-)
How can all you whiners say it shouldn't have been a catch. The Dback hit the receiver at the peak of his jump, and rode him out of bounds, the WC kid landed, in my estimate @16-18 inches (from tip of toe) out of bounds! So, let me get this right-the big, strong athletic Dback, couldn't have riden the receiver out of bounds that short distance, at the peak of the WR's jump...haha, come on! What if was Carmel who got the call? Refesh my memory-what was the excuse last year vs Center Grove?
no excuse....they lost cuz they gave up. i dont remember carmel blaming center grove. this is the only year they have been screwed. and check out the replay. im pretty sure he caught the ball out of bounds! so how in the name of pete is he gonna spin back inbouds? check ur reference bud
Glad to see that Coach Mo is still the biggest whiner in Indiana football. Hey Coach, you think that having the football 40% less than your opponent, gaining nearly 100 less yards in the game, letting your opponent go 8 for 8 in 4th down conversions, and being penalized for 70+ yards is going to win you many big games?
Any of those statistics you want to point to as to why you lost the game? Probably not. It's always someone else's fault.
excuse me? yes they did put up big numbers....sooo who freakin cares?
look at the odds. warren was poised to win just because they r soo much bigger. I give carmel props just for leading at the end of the game. so cheers to carmel. and coach mo is a humble man...but he also knows a bit about football and this my friend...was bull shit and u know it
This is awesome that this made the top videos for youtube. That was easily the worst call i have ever seen in high school football. He is standing right there and blatantly missed it. Warren doesn't deserve this title. I went to north central and we hate carmel but they got royally screwed on this call.
The force out rule shouldn't have been called on this play. That pass was thrown so far to the right that he didn't have control of the ball until he was out of bounds. Even if you think the player would have been in bounds, with only one foot touching, he would not have had control of the ball in bounds. That was a blown call which lead to an win for Warren which in the eyes of many will be seen as meaningless.
Nice seats! Then from where you were sitting, in relation to the receiver and defender, you were 'straightlined', meaning that you could not possibly have seen, if any, contact made to the receiver's back. The official's angle was such that he could 'see through' the players, which for an official in any sport, is the best angle to have.
I'm not saying if the call was right or wrong, just that the official had the best angle to MAKE the call and by NFHS rule, it was his judgement to make.
This play had a problem from the start. The last time I checked, there had to be 7 men on the LOS in any level of football, The team on offense had only 6. I have been an official at this level for 15 years. If I blow a call - everyone does, I NEVER make excuses. This gentleman didn't either. Don't be making excuses when one of us fouls up. That's on him. You make us all look bad when you make dumb excuses, Don't say anything poblicly.Only talk about it when you see him at your next meeting
'Straightlined' and 'seeing through the play' are terms you're familiar with I hope? They are TERMS, not excuses. Who, other than that official, had a better angle of the play in real time??? No one. That is my only point, sir. NFHS rule says it is his judgement.
If you are the wise ol' ref you say you are, you should know better than to question another official's judgement. Now 6 verses 7 on the LOS is different,no judgement involved there. FYI-I don't live in Indiana.
I did not question his judgement on the in/out call. Nobody threw one for the illegal formation. That's on the whole crew. Read my whole message again. My problem is with your grandstanding commentary.
PS - judging from your earlier comments about the coach, it sure seems like you have an Indiana connection.
Grandstanding = stating the facts. Illegal formation,ok. My problem is Coach Mo (or any coach) saying the game was stolen, when he needs to look in the mirror. Totally unprofessional. If Carmel played a perfect game, then fine, the game was stolen. But they were far from playing a perfect game. They lost the game because of the points I made. Stop blaming the refs.
If I were the Carmel AD, I'd be totally embarrassed by the coach's comments. NCAA coaches get fined for saying much less!!
The IHSAA states that a force out rule can only be considered when a player's direction is changed from the one he created with his own momentum. Obviously, this is not what happened on Saturday night.
The Carmel Greyhound won the football game Saturday night and ARE, WITHOUT DOUBT, the 2009 Class 5A State Champions.
Warren might have the trophy to gather dust in their school, but they know, as well as us, that they did not win that game.
There is a force out rule and it states that if the players momentum was carrying him out of bounds there should be no penalty. Its a shame such a hard fought game by two of the best teams in the state should end with a bad call. Hats off to Warren and Carmel
The IHSAA rules state that a force out can only be considered when a player's direction is changed from the one he created with his own momentum. Clearly his direction is not being changed. A force out is thus ruled irrelevant.
The offensive pass interference call in the 2nd OT was almost as this one.
dear carmel, it was ruled a force out. official press release: "Magee caught the ball in the air with a defender on him and landed just outside the right edge of the endzone. The official ruled he was forced out of bounds and would have come down in bounds." A force out is a touchdown.
That quarterbacks pass was a prayer. Catch even more amazing but he did land out of bounds in replay slow motion keep pressing start and stop on youtube bar. he land 7- 12 inches from line. Carmel defender appears to touch player a nano second before ball arrives. I think the ref need to explain his call. Interference would have been less controversial. I think a phd math/science professor needs to analyse the newtons law to determine how much force would have forced him out.
they both lost to cathedral who was by far the best team in the state this year any way, 4A was where it was at this year, the mic had a weak year this game was meaningless to begin with..and for all the carmel fans out there HAHAHA
Normally I would make the argument that the other team still had a chance to win the game after the bad call, but that had to be THE WORST call I have ever seen in the history of football. The receiver was 2 feet out of bounds for Christ sake!
Indiana...but who cares about this game? Both Carmel and Warren Central are huge, rich ass schools that bribe officials in basically all sports...rich snobs.
Yeah, nothing to see here folks. The receiver was pushed out and never had the chance the get his foot down. That is a completion. Nobody was robbed here.
People, here's the deal. IHSAA rules clearly indicate that the sideline official can rule a forceout if he feels the receiver had clear possession and he could have gotten a foot in bounds without the push. The Warren Central receiver CLEARLY would have gotten 1 foot in, which is all you need in Indiana HS football, and thus WC gets the TD. All the Carmel people who are crying and whining, you were out played in every facet of the game. First downs, total yards, time of poss. Get over it, u lost
Hey Kitchel 122.., They can't get over it, IT'S carmel, they have a sense of entitlement that is unmatched in the state, just listen to their coach after the game, no ownership of the loss, no pointing out what could've been done better, no praise to Warren Central...ooooh, life's simple pleasures!!
CARMEL SHOULD HAVE WON!!!!!!!! THAT IS CRAP... WE STILL TALK ABOUT IT. BUT ON FIRDAY CARMEL BEAT WAREN PAY BACK. HARDEST TEAM OUT FOR THE SEASON. BOO YAAHH

No, they weren't robbed.

@dxdude2004 it was obviously out of bounds. yes they did.
DetectiveJewhat 4 months ago
@DetectiveJewhat He caught it out of bounds because the Carmel player got him while he was in the air and PUSHED him out of bounds. He would've landed in bounds had the Carmel player not tackled him.
dxdude2004 4 months ago
@dxdude2004 which (im pretty sure) is a pass interference. i may be wrong. i see your point though.

DetectiveJewhat 4 months ago
@DetectiveJewhat It's a tough call really. I mean, they can't go back and look at it, they have to make the call right there on the spot. Obviously, the referee thought that the Warren Central player could've made that catch in bounds.
dxdude2004 4 months ago
This wasn't a controversial call. The thing with it is in those situations is if they are pushed out while in the air like he was its considered in bounds where he was taken out.

ohiostatejoeylogano 1 year ago
Incorrect.
BatmanINDY 1 year ago
Wrong. There is a force out rule in Indiana High School Football. Either way, there's also a pass interference rule, the receiver was impacted prior to the ball arriving. It's at least another play, at most a touchdown.
BatmanINDY 1 year ago
@BatmanINDY there is a forceout rule i established that, but only if he was going the opposite direction as the reciever, last time i checked, he was going the same direction
ohiostatejoeylogano 1 year ago
@ohiostatejoeylogano
BatmanINDY 1 year ago
even a member of the warren central coaching staff said it was a bad call.
incorrect idiot
nitrousKiNG09 1 year ago

I have absolutely NO connection to either team, but I am a tremendous fan of high school football. kleinwagon 1 year ago
@peetzaman521069 Im from warren and the call was right, this isn't the regular nfl rules, when a player gets forced out of bounds like he did and he lands with the ball in his hands it is ruled a touchdown.
live2win66 1 year ago
@peetzaman521069 No one read the rules in this situation and obviously you didn't either. If the warren player would not of been forced out while he was in the AIR then it would of been out of bounds and Carmel would have won. This was just a situation of a hidden rule that everyone knows about they jsut act surprised because they know it shouldn't of happened.

force out rule means u still have to get at least one foot in bounds and if then u get shoved out then its a force out but theres no way he could of gotten that in bounds
Indianapolisfootball 2 years ago

SkRiLLazZoo 2 years ago
Carmel needs to stop bitchin
and from this angle it looks like its not a force out
but if you see the reply from a side view the Carmel player is pushing him out of bounds before he even has possession of the ball and when he catches it he lands out of bounds so I say it was a fair call
Remember the Pike vs Carmel game
remember when the ref gave them the touchdown when it clearly hit the ground before he caught it nobody bitched just kept playing
Carmel bitches when they can't win at everything
Sillyapes56 2 years ago
Oh, and by the way Carmel, the rest of the state doesn't hate you. They're not jealous of you. Frankly, we don't spend any more or less time thinking about you than we do any other suburb.
WC, congrats on the win. Were you helped by a questionable call? Yup. No doubt. But to your credit, you did win in overtime. The call didn't win the game for you; which is the point the Carmel fans all seem to be forgetting.
rhettcochran 2 years ago
uh game wudnt hav gone to OT if that call was made right just saying so it kinda won tthem the game

BatmanINDY 2 years ago
Here's the thing though:
If he was pushed out then he still would be close to the inzone. I was there and saw it, and even the warren player who caught it said he was out. So overall the Greyhound had won the championship and that all the overtimes were a total waste of time and complete and utterly bullshit. Hopefully because of this call the referee who called it will be fired because of such a lousy call.
eggy46032 2 years ago 2
Actually, the player who caught it sayed he was in and was pushed out. Read the indy star. And no, the ref should not be fired just because he made one call that carmel didn't like. I was there too, and although I thought it was a horrible call at the time, I now see why he called it that way. I still think his own momentum would have forced him out, but it's impossible to tell without a review. Unfortunately, there's no review in HS, so lets let it go. BTW, I'm a HUGE Carmel fan.
parkranger15 2 years ago
lol. it's called a force out. obviously if they put in the rule nobody knew about it so i think it's a good call. plus it's carmel. they just don't know how to finish off a state run. back2back state runners up. congrats boys.
awest231110 2 years ago
your a moron...there is no way he lands in bounds. Warren Central will always no they didnt win the game.
jamnitro 2 years ago
jamnitro, the rule doesn't say that the player must have otherwise landed in bounds, it just says if he's forced out of bounds, a plain text reading of the rules book shows that the correct call was made. At the very least it's a pass interference call, and warren would have had another opportunity at the score.
BatmanINDY 2 years ago
Pass interference? WTF? C'mon...get the emotion out of your assessment. The key word in deciphering this play is "MOMENTUM". The WR's momentum was clearly heading towards the sideline and the DB barely made any contact at all. The great thing about YouTube is that you can watch the play over and over again! It's so obvious it's sickening. I could care less about either program, but Carmel got absolutely ram-rodded. It's an utter shame.

You have just given us a perfect example of that.
washref 2 years ago
we didnt give up in overtime we came close to beating them but we got screwed in the second OT.

It was a terrific game from start to finish, with great playing by both teams. I think that the call was justifiable given the force-out rule in high school football, and it's a shame that so many Carmel fans, players, and coaches have decided that the game was "stolen" from them.
D3m0crat 2 years ago
26W26 you want some cheeze with that whine. Carmel could have celebrated a whole year but they chose the 11 minutes 52 seconds of the fourth quarter instead. A real coach does not let this happen. Mabye if he was doing his job and not trying to do the refs. job he would have won. The rule does not leave room for judgement calls. The contact was made in the direction where the reciever came came down therefore it gets ruled a force out. Carmel had multiple chances to win, they choked. Coach too.
2005ball 2 years ago 2
The rule in indiana is if the momentum is change by the contact then it can be ruled a force out. The player was going the same way the whole time. It was out of bounds. total bull crap call
65Hog 2 years ago
I thought momentum also dealt with the speed someone is going and not just the direction. If the guy going for the ball is sped up by someone hitting him from behind, that's a change in momentum no matter if they were going the same direction or not. Am I wrong?
Even in that respect though, it's still a sketchy call. There might be a slight change here. But the ref called this one live so it's understandable he would assume that(if that was what he was looking for)
poogawoog 2 years ago

The26w26 2 years ago
It's very encouraging to see some of the Carmel players exude more class than their coach.
The Carmel players were upset, but two of the Greyhounds' leaders -- quarterback Adam Shaffer and linebacker Brian East --refused to use it as an excuse.
"Obviously, we were all disappointed,'' said Shaffer, who was 17-for-31 for 248 yards and tied a state finals record with five touchdown passes. "But I'm not going to sit here and complain about the officials. Obviously, the chips fell where they did."
washref 2 years ago
continued quote...
Added East: "My first thought was he was out, but the ref called it. Stuff like that happens. If we deserved the state championship, we would have fought through it.''
Kudos to the TRUE leaders of the Carmel football team. Hey Coach Mo, take a lesson from these guys!

The correct phrase for this game is Carmel COULD'VE won not SHOULD'VE grow the hell up all of you.
poogawoog 2 years ago
if you don't believe me pause at the 6 seconds and look at the 5th "lineman" from the far left when he pops out of his stance he is a good yard behind the other 4 linemen on the line, my guess is he is an eligible tight end. and to be honest the carmel guys feet came in, in bounds so warrens guy probably could have too, there is a forceout rule in HS football, and its only 1 foot. Bad call? eh its debatable but WC defiantly deserves the win
chitwnballer23 2 years ago
ok people the formation is not illegal the four linemen on the left are on, the 5th is on his hip not on...the center = 5, and the eligible receiver next to him is 6 and then the receiver on the far right is 7...

footballstud5079 2 years ago
The ref, and the IHSAA did NOT admit the call was wrong, you're throwing things against the wall, and seeing it they stick. cwbchuck 2 years ago
Actually they both did, its in the IndyStar and the Chicago Tribune. And no carmel had no excuse last year we just choked but this year there was a bullshit call everyone knows it just warren wants to take the credit for something that they did jack shit for. so cwbitch, where did u get the information of them not admitting it? it was on the NEWS for one, and in those newspapers for two. anything else?
footballstud5079 2 years ago
Hey studless,
Here's your quote from the IndyStar..
All of that is within the rule and it's the official's call (whether he would have come down inbounds without the contact).
washref 2 years ago 2
continued quote.....

Refesh my memory-what was the excuse last year vs Center Grove?
cwbchuck 2 years ago
no excuse....they lost cuz they gave up. i dont remember carmel blaming center grove. this is the only year they have been screwed. and check out the replay. im pretty sure he caught the ball out of bounds! so how in the name of pete is he gonna spin back inbouds? check ur reference bud

PurduePete20 2 years ago 2
And you know this because you had a better angle than that official 10 ft. from the play had.
Stop the armchair quarterbacking, and get back to your mascot duties.......
washref 2 years ago
Actually I was at the game, no more than a stones throw from the endzone, standing in the sits a few rows behind the Freeney banner on the sidelines.
PurduePete20 2 years ago
Nice seats! Then from where you were sitting, in relation to the receiver and defender, you were 'straightlined', meaning that you could not possibly have seen, if any, contact made to the receiver's back. The official's angle was such that he could 'see through' the players, which for an official in any sport, is the best angle to have.
I'm not saying if the call was right or wrong, just that the official had the best angle to MAKE the call and by NFHS rule, it was his judgement to make.
washref 2 years ago
This play had a problem from the start. The last time I checked, there had to be 7 men on the LOS in any level of football, The team on offense had only 6. I have been an official at this level for 15 years. If I blow a call - everyone does, I NEVER make excuses. This gentleman didn't either. Don't be making excuses when one of us fouls up. That's on him. You make us all look bad when you make dumb excuses, Don't say anything poblicly.Only talk about it when you see him at your next meeting
snrmike 2 years ago
Senor Mike,
'Straightlined' and 'seeing through the play' are terms you're familiar with I hope? They are TERMS, not excuses. Who, other than that official, had a better angle of the play in real time??? No one. That is my only point, sir. NFHS rule says it is his judgement.
If you are the wise ol' ref you say you are, you should know better than to question another official's judgement. Now 6 verses 7 on the LOS is different,no judgement involved there. FYI-I don't live in Indiana.
washref 2 years ago
If this is a duplicate - sorry...
I did not question his judgement on the in/out call. Nobody threw one for the illegal formation. That's on the whole crew. Read my whole message again. My problem is with your grandstanding commentary.
PS - judging from your earlier comments about the coach, it sure seems like you have an Indiana connection.
snrmike 2 years ago
Grandstanding = stating the facts. Illegal formation,ok. My problem is Coach Mo (or any coach) saying the game was stolen, when he needs to look in the mirror. Totally unprofessional. If Carmel played a perfect game, then fine, the game was stolen. But they were far from playing a perfect game. They lost the game because of the points I made. Stop blaming the refs.
If I were the Carmel AD, I'd be totally embarrassed by the coach's comments. NCAA coaches get fined for saying much less!!
washref 2 years ago

Carmel is the real 2009 State Champion.

dear carmel, it was ruled a force out. official press release: "Magee caught the ball in the air with a defender on him and landed just outside the right edge of the endzone. The official ruled he was forced out of bounds and would have come down in bounds." A force out is a touchdown.
jr1290 2 years ago
uh also read the part about magee talkin with the ref...the ref was gonna give it to him anyway. he wanted warren to win
The26w26 2 years ago
That quarterbacks pass was a prayer. Catch even more amazing but he did land out of bounds in replay slow motion keep pressing start and stop on youtube bar. he land 7- 12 inches from line. Carmel defender appears to touch player a nano second before ball arrives. I think the ref need to explain his call. Interference would have been less controversial. I think a phd math/science professor needs to analyse the newtons law to determine how much force would have forced him out.

I don't know if there is a push out rule but it seems he was pushed and also pass interference

It all depends on whether that High School League has a force out rule or not.

This video is kind of shaky, but this is the worst call I have ever seen decide a game. Totally blown call.

Obviously youv'e not seen much SEC this year.

He was pushed out of bounds while in the air... that's why the call could be made.
That being said, you can't tell from this angle if he was in bounds when he gained full possession of the ball.
patrioticheart 2 years ago
Normally I would make the argument that the other team still had a chance to win the game after the bad call, but that had to be THE WORST call I have ever seen in the history of football. The receiver was 2 feet out of bounds for Christ sake!

Indiana...but who cares about this game? Both Carmel and Warren Central are huge, rich ass schools that bribe officials in basically all sports...rich snobs.

Okay...their high school championship is in an NFL stadium, and our 5A championship was at BSU.

Yeah, nothing to see here folks. The receiver was pushed out and never had the chance the get his foot down. That is a completion. Nobody was robbed here.
JahRage 2 years ago
Doesn't matter. Needs to get at least one foot down. changed the rule doesnt matter if his foot was down. incomplete.

yep, there is no more force out for catches, its either you got it, or you dont, and that call was BS

Get over it, u lost
kitchel22130 2 years ago
Hey Kitchel 122.., They can't get over it, IT'S carmel, they have a sense of entitlement that is unmatched in the state, just listen to their coach after the game, no ownership of the loss, no pointing out what could've been done better, no praise to Warren Central...ooooh, life's simple pleasures!!
