I'd say they were a bunch of ordinary (but very talented) guys. Much the same as is very prevalent in the modern independant scene. They wrote some very cool stuff and got noticed. As much as I love this era of music, there were a good number of groups that because they looked 'English', became popular with the teeny set and were just perfectly okay. There was a great thirst for them by the music business charlatans( labels and producers and such).
Why do people think that their favorite band needs to be in the HOF?! I mean I like The Blues Magoos, but let's be REAL here! They had one friggin' hit! They were a good band but were hardly groundbreaking. Wow, now I'm looking down and seeing a comment that they wrote better stuff than The Beatles?! What the hell is wrong with you people?!
@abbotskerswellpostie TOTALLY! I mean if we're gonna talk about putting The Blues Magoos in the RnRHOF, then whey don't they induct The Music Machine as well?! Or how about The Music Explosion? I mean COME ON! These guys and their peers were just really good garage bands....nothing more.
@MattHatter Rock and Roll was not about commercialism. The Blues Magoos had many hit songs. But, only one was commercially successful. Pipe Dream and its flip side were examples..
@lt1bird348 The Blues Magoos were a great band. I like The Blues Magoos. I have their first two albums and I like both of them. But they were not a groundbreaking band in any way. When people think of late '60s rock, The Blues Magoos are not one of the first bands they think of. Moby Grape was by far a more incredible band than The Blues Magoos ever were and you barely hear anything about them! The Blues Magoos were fine, but not enough to deserve a place in the RnRHOF.
these guys played at a shopping mall near my house when i was in the 8th grade in 1968, all my friends went but my mom wouldnt let me go. always remember that..

How can you possibly listen to this song and not feel amazing about life, high or not?. Blues Magoos wrote better shit then the Beatles in my personal opinion. This track has got to be one of the grooviest out of the 60s. Its a real mover and shaker.
one of my fav tracks from the guys, great vid and live vocals,i have noticed that more bands in america from this period where filmed in colour which is nice,in britain till 69 it was still more black and white, thanx for this!!
@rozoffaolcom Pretty much turning to crap. I pretty much feel the same way, although there is some good stuff from 1968 and 1969. I don't like the facial hair crap either or the "Classic Rock stuff, although some is good. It bores the hell out of me. I do like some Bubblegum but the music from 1964-1967 is my favorite stuff. Especially the obscure Garage group stuff. Last but not least, those great 1960's radio spots were fantastic! R & R Hall...lol What a joke it is sometimes.
@rozoffaolcom I agree. I was growing up during this era. I think that Abba was bubble gum in the worst way. I listened to them when I was stationed in East Anglia but would rather have had something like this instead.
@rozoffaolcom Abba gets nominated but the Blues Magoos are ignored proving that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a joke! Music was turning to crap in 1968 when everybody decided that music needed to carry a message of love. "Bubblegum" for better or worse, was nonsense and fun, like music is meant to be. For those who thought Bubblegum was crap, the worse was yet to come.
@littlemikey1954 I agree with your last sentence. But, Rock and Roll was rebellion. Not necessarily "fun". That was left for groups like the Beach Boys. The world was in turmoil and we could no longer trust anyone over 30.
Bubble Gum was put out by the record companies to formulate and control the industry.

Correct. Their show falls under the category of "Cultural Marxism". Many of the acts on their show promoted cultural filth in order to tear down Western society and pave the way for Communist revolution one day off in the future. Of course the Smothers Brothers themselves had no idea they were simply a cog in the wheel of the Jewish destruction of the West.
Click on my Youtube handle and watch the Kevin MacDonald interview to learn more.
@dullsvillain I remember watching the Smothers brothers and listening to my uncles talk about how the studio heads seemed to like harrassing the guys about the subject matter of their skits.
It's too bad that I didn't get the punch lines then. LOL
The other side of this single was also a hit, "There's A Chance We Can Make It". Both were from the "Electric Comic Book" album. Their first album, "Psychedelic Lollipop" was a very tough act to follow. But they pulled it off and the results are two of garage rock's definitive classics. God bless 'em!
FAROUT! SOOOO groovy! Where'd you dig these videos up? Always loved the liquid projections, Lesley speakers, and the go-go girls. To quote someone else- break out the time machine and pass the blotter.
I wish I still had my Blues Magoos fan club card! Their 2nd album originally came with an insert to join their fan club, as well as a way to order a lava lamp.Anyone else remember the electrified, lighted suits thst they performed in for a while, circa 1968?
I've always loved sixties garage band music since I was a kid and I still do today!!! If you happen to find the Clingers performance of "Good Time" could you post that?? I haven't seen that since sixth grade when it aired on E!
