  • I highly,highly recommend those :

--Graveyard of Honor Takashi Mike's remake,in an old classic yakuza movie. The main actor is great and really a badass, the music also.A view of jp society decay after バブル景気

--Still walking Dir.Hirokazu Koreeda A family story,Hiroshi Abe plays in that too.Not in a badass role..But a very moving story in slow pace.

sorry for my english i'm not a native english speaker.

  • Misfits ... my favorite band when growing up, skating in the 80's! Woot!

  • Yay! AKB48 reference! I'm gonna watch all of the movies asap. Loving the videos btw, keep it up :)

  • i believe caterpillar is a remake of an american movie from the 70s i think. i can't remember the title but the actor there was popular

  • Bought Confessions the other day and got round to watching it tonight. Such a great film! It explores a lot of issues of the human mind and left me unsure of the 'morally right' thing to do in such a situation. Thanks for the recommendation!

  • I watched confessions was amazing!

  • Btw thumbs up on the misfits shirt! I still have mine from like the 6th grade it's all faded but I still wear haha

  • Ahh dude sweet thanks!

  • Caterpillar sounds a bit like Johnny got his gun, kinda different stories but similar characters in a sense. Thnx for the recommendations. theres this dude on here, name does come to mind at this moment but he puts up these japanese horror movies and t.v.shows in eng subs, so i watch those a lot, theres this one show series called tales of terror from tokyo which is quite good. White eyes i didnt like. It was corny and obvious but like you said cool story.

  • @qu7aker that's the american movie i meant, yeah, it seems like caterpillar is a remake of 'johnny got his gun'.

  • @nenabunena to a certain extent yea.

  • thanks, will be watching kokuhaku tonight! also curious about shinya shokudou, do you know if it's available online somewhere streaming? i can't find much info about it anywhere, maybe i just suck at looking, haha.

  • thanks!

  • Am I experiencing some eyesight problem or your cam goes out of focus some times?

  • @mikekiske I noticed that too, I thought I was going blind.

  • @gamehead91 I got a little scared.

  • Man what can I say? You just kicked off with one of my all time favorite movie: Kokuhaku. No words!!

  • Kokuhaku was awesome, thanks for the tip :D

  • Animated Japanese movies is where its at! Sword of a stranger, Summer Wars, Karigurashi no Arrietty, Mind Game, Paprika, Tokyo Godfathers!

  • These all sound quite interesting. I watched おくりびと per your recommendation from a previous video and loved it. I have already seen 新参者 (love anything with 阿部寛 in it), but will check out 告白 and 深夜食堂.

Thank you for the terrific recommendations.

  • Good to see you back.

  • I really like your suggestions. These movies seem really good to me. Excactly the movies i like to see. Thanks unrested;]

  • CONFESSIONS WAS THE BEST GUYS !!

  • What are your thoughts on the series "Liar Game?" If you have yet to see it i recommend it. It's my favorite so far.

  • @ThisIsMyGoal mmm well the plot was a bit silly and I am always a bit disappointed when I see movies shot in the same video ratio as TV. on the plus side Kagawa Teruyuki played an amazing villain and always leaves me amazed at his level of acting.

  • Sadako popping out of nowhere scared me!

  • @somchay1851 huh i dont what you are talking about...oh well, hope the next 7 days of your life are good ones;)

  • @unrested Oh I was talking about at 12:41.

  • You should definitely do more vids like those!

  • In your opinion, Whats the best Japanese movie you've seen so far?

  • @iDiversitee have you seen Magic Hour? its a comedy but its the funniest movie i have ever seen. so good it bounds over any international barriers with grace and leaves you in stitches. absolutely insanely funny!

  • @unrested im going to check that out right now! thanks. I watched Toiretto and about to watch Kokuhaku. These movies are real interesting. The cool thing is that after 2 years i get to travel to Japan and check out their film industry. (im going to be a film major). Interesting stuff.

  • Do you know any good country sides of Japan? When i mean country- i mean people who have never seen a foreigner and surrounded by mountains or hills kinda thing...because I want to do that kind of thing. I keep researching and I can't find enough info. Perhaps you know?

  • @Poopyheadnumber1 iwate or maybe kanagawa

  • @unrested Thanks, I appreciate it!

  • Thank you for suggesting Shinzanmono to us, we've watched the first two episodes today and enjoyed it thoroughly. The main detective is a total badass like you said ~ every time he pops up somewhere just observing the suspect I can't help but giggle, he's like a friendly Sherlock Holmes :D

  • Hokuhaku- not available on Netflix. I hate you Netflix!!!

  • @jmg544 did you try confessions? if you still can't find it PM me. You are doing the right thing by trying to rent it but if you are at wits end I can get you a streaming link with subs for free.

  • Lol what happened to the metal music?

  • happy new year 2 hours an 30 minites..!!

  • This was a great movie review video. You've got a great taste. It's like dark things are interested, but in the sense that they allow to look at some things & situations in a unusual perspective so to speak. Yeah, I guess this unusualness is what I like in japanese creations. And cool conepts, psychological situations - that's awesome. Cheers!

  • Cool vid. I would have chose some different dramas to suggest, but this video was interesting. I may have to check out Shinzanmono now though. You have dark taste in movies/tv. It's funny, you have all these dark movies and then 2 animal dramas lol. You should check out some of the dramas in the comment section like Liar Game or Kaseifu no Mita. If you already haven't.

  • @KillerFaceification ive actually watched both. liar game...it was...well, some parts are ok. that guy who plays the villian always does an amazing job with his acting.

  • @unrested if you like the idea behind Shirome you should check out The Unidentified and The Mountain Incident, they were shot the same way.

  • Do you watch Boss or Liar Game?

  • @JayMiz91 I did and they were awesome! Unrested might like them too.

  • Nice video with great suggestions and reviews!!

  • I loved "Confessions". I tell all my friends to watch it, even the ones that are not interested in Japanese cinema.. I think it is a shame to miss this movie just because they don't like reading subtitles :)

  • You should check out Noira:The Curse. A great film to turn out the lights and freak yourself out.

  • @endomame39 it was good. did you see The Haunted? some places it is called the Haunted Apartments. you can see it on youtube for free. totally freaky!

  • @unrested I will now, thanks for the suggestion. Wishing you and your family a healthy and prosperous new year.

  • 告白はとてもいいだ

  • hahaha the intro xD loves it :D

  • I loved Confessions, I wish more people would know about it :/

  • what was that at 12:40

  • Very cool video, I hope you keep doing videos on this subject in the future.

  • that movie sounds like Jeniffer body. pop stars kill a girl to make a deal with the devil

  • Almost done with Kokuhaku right now. Definitely interesting thus far.

  • You forgot マルモのおきて www

  • @unrested Ahh.... you forgot to mention Sayonara Itsuka.. I know it's not new...

  • h ttp://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lwr34aVpK71qfivlao1_500.jpg ... hmmm this picture looks strangely familiar.. i swear i stumbled through this while watching this video xDDD

  • I will have to check out some of these, most sound quite appealing to me. I would say if anyone wants a very "Weird" film to watch, (and that is the only word to describe it) to check out "Funky Forest"

  • Great movie recommendations. I've recently gotten into Japanese horror films and manga so I'm going to try to give those all a watch.

  • you should add kaseifu no mita..

  • @ptima993 wow thats so weird. i almost added that and then decided not to in the end. just watched it too.

  • @ptima993 I second that!

  • Thank you good information!! I'll try some.

  • Nice Swag!

  • I'm glad you dropped the "m'kay" tick :d

  • @ovidiu890831 yeah i noticed i avoided it somehow in this vid. but i am sure it will be back.

  • Thanks for the summaries! Haven't seen a vid like this from other jvloggers, and I honestly wonder what Japanese movies / shows to watch all the time. This helps!

  • @TheMadPoppet remember you can always PM me for questions on anything japan!

  • @TheMadPoppet Check out Liar Game, Love Shuffle, Ninkyo Helper, Hana Kimi, and Kasiefu no Mita.

  • x3

  • Hay that's was a cool drama they do need to make a movie out of the show

  • hey...i have a question but its off topic - its that time of the year for me to decide if i stay in the same city or request a transfer... i was wondering if you had the choice what would you do? (stay in a small city in Iwate or transfer near Osaka) - my worry is having to start over again cos ive made some good friend here (both english and japanese)... it might sound silly but is it easy to meet people and make friend in osaka area. btw, i love movies and will download and watch some of these

  • @JeremyScottThompson imho i would move to osaka. i have been to iwate and could never live there myself (too much of a small town feel). But if its your thing i say stay. honestly though if you are interested in moving out here feel free to PM me on osaka

  • I loved Shinzanmono, as well as the SP they did. I've been wondering whether or not to check out Kokuhaku because I've heard some conflicting reviews about it, but after hearing your synopsis I'm going to check it out. Nice video, and have a happy new year.

  • @Kirarachu did you see the SP movie? i was a bit disappointed in it.

  • @unrested I saw the akai yubi one. I was disappointed mainly because we knew who the culprit was from the beginning, and that the 'reason' for killing the girl was weak as hell. I still enjoyed it though despite the flaws. I think most SP's rarely live up to the hype of the original series, I'm afraid. :/

  • Nices to know. funny intro as well.

  • I was actually looking into the Confessions and was on the fence, but now that you recommend it I guess I should see it. Thanks!

Just as a quick question: have you seen 2010 movie Cold Fish (冷たい熱帯魚, Tsumetai Nettaigyo)? If not I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't fazed really easily from some cruelty. I thought it was one of the best movies I have seen in a long time.

  • As for the first movie Confession, people in the US can watch it for free on mysoju(dot)com. They also have midnight diner season 1 and five episodes are up for midnight diner season 2. I'll try checking out the other films and dramas you mentioned.

  • @ komokiwi LOL at my miz voice: Really Really... Really ?

  • I have seen the movie shirome = white eyes, I did like it, I really did, my girlfreind wanted to see it and I thot ¨well, adlist will be making out in the slow parts¨, but it was a horror... and as you said the comcept was really good I give it a 7/10, not as gory as i like, but the story was good xD

  • awesome vid man.. ^^ im glad that your making like 14 minute vids.. try to do more....

@ idiversitee it depends on where your stayin.. for me im staying at shibuya which i hope it costs less but if not i have to save up some more :) but im sure unrested will tell you the exact answer... im about to save up around 50000 grand USD for example college expense, plane ticket , apartment etcc... so ya i know what im gonna do when i move here :) hope you plan ahead and start your dream..

  • 12:44 even the url was like,"FUAAAAAAAAAA, that scared me".

Other than that nice video, pretty interesting.

  • "The CHAMP is here, the CHAMP is here!" Cheers Unrested, that was an awesome video. Your cut and track montage needs some work, but you will do it. Start small and work up. Have you thought about doing a 'Ukiyoe' layer effect? That could be a cool intro too.

  • How expensive is the living cost in Japan? (average) like altogether (US Dollar)

  • @iDiversitee it's more expensive. I'm a student living in Yokohama from the U.S, and I can tell you first hand its more expensive...If you live like me you can eat on a min of 200- 300 yen a day by shopping only at the 100 yen store...but you wont do this all the time or you'll die from instant ramen poisoning :P...my rent is 35000 yen a month. you can do the math from that, or google more info yourself. (This all depends on where you live btw)

  • @OtacooI I assume you work? and if so what the average wage?

  • Interesting..

No action or martial art movies? >_o

  • @markshmily japan action movies = laughable

  • @ what time did u film the opening;i never saw tennoji so empty!?

  • @qchome are you being serious?

  • @unrested yes;i am part of the (less then) 1 % on youtube who has never bought a camera and have not seen a movie in more then 20 years.i had to look up photoshopped to see what it means.

  • @qchome i only ask cause the whole thing is just photoshoped. hey you gunna be at shitennoji again? make sure to say hi this time:)

  • Great faq definately going to check some movies out now. ;)

  • before you leave: Happy New year! Okay now i will go back to watching the video.

  • @weirdzfully lol thanks for the timely well wishing. i saw this moments after it was posted

  • uhhh i don't know why sadako shows up through this. i didn't edit it that way but whatever...

  • @unrested Dude. That scared the hell out of me, idk why. But awesome vid!

  • @unrested Hey I saw your video of your drawings I was wondering if you could give me advise on good drawing like that like any websites etc. thanks bye :3

  • @cupcakefail hmmm i really dont know any sites for it. honestly for practice i look for my favorite artists and copy their works on a daily basis. good luck with your art!

  • @unrested

mate, how popular is skyrim in japan?

  • @Mikeybetts not very popular FFxiii2 is the big one here. which imho sucks.

  • @unrested

LOL i'll never get the japanese taste in games XD

  • @Mikeybetts couldnt agree with you more. quick fact for you. fallout rpg came out in japan but with megaton city deleted from the game. wtf? i understand the sensitivity to nuclear bombs and all but why even release an rpg like that with such a huge chunk missing...am i right?

  • @unrested

yeah, megaton and i think the fat man was renamed or deleted from the game.

well, imagine if a game based in new york was made, and the 2 towers was still in it, and it constantly had planes flying around it, i guess americans would want that deleted as well and its kinda the same thing about nuclear bombs in japan.

  • @unrested honestly its really weird. i dont know what i did. it wigged me out too.

  • Excellent
