John Mayer just has that appeal, he's not playing anything revolutionary, it's basically what anyone who's been playing guitar since they were a kid can do all the licks he plays i've heard before, but don't think I don't think he's a really good guitar player cause he is. But Derek Trucks is a guitarist that will leave a lasting impression because he has his own unique style of blues fused with psychedelic rock,jazz,and pakistani music.

you mat423 are a fool. you tread in dangerous waters when you start ranking guitarists because each one has their unique style and that doesn't necessarily show their ability. Metal guitarists are probably the most skilled technical guitar players. Buckethead is much more skilled than mayer, but he doesn't have the appeal. Mayer and the guys he gets his style from use the pentatonic scale. And when you wanna talk about the best guitar players ever you have to go buy innovation.

If you ever learn to play guitar you will understand that buckethead is not a good guitarist overall. He shreds and thats it. I can make a synthesizer sound just like him, so why would I play guitar like him. A real musician will make you FEEL the music not just hear it and say "damn his fingers are moving fast"

The blues doesn't require faster finger moving but it is JUST as challenging and technically skillful as metal. I know from experience.
