Totally engrossing and well ahead of it's time, as were the first and second ones. I wonder what happened to The Author? Good luck to him wherever ended up :)
I loved this game at the time. It looks pretty cold and clinical by today's standards but I loved the freedom it gave you to explore a solar system. Nice flexibility in methods too.
@eightninchpianist I never actually played Damocles :'-( but I played Mercenary III which I gather was technically similar, and yeah, while that may have been a little bare and clinical by modern standards, it was still a massive improvement on the original (8-bit design) Mercenary.
Agree that freedom to explore was fun (even if parts not important to the game were sparsely developed). That, combined with immersive "VR" feel due to lack of in-game loading and intermissions were what I loved.
but can you remember if you played this one, or mecenary escape from targ? To tell the truth I cant remember which one i played, although I think it was the first one! LOL
@pspuae If it was filled graphics like this one, it was Damocles or Mercenary III; if it was wireframe and more sparse, it was the original Mercenary: Escape from Targ.

I made a Celestia addon that allows you to explore the Gamma System! You'll find the link in a message in the Mercenary BBS.

Can you land on planets, walk around and enter buildings, in Infinity Universe?

@Juegosmmorpg Do you mean you can fly in space, land on planets, exit from your ship, walk around and enter buildings like in Damocles?

@DevilMaster yes

This game was a legend on the 8-bits. The coding was genius given the constraints of the 8 bit machines of the era. Glad it made it to PSP Format.
