So instead of being locked into Verizon for 2 years, which you would probably stay in either way if you have a storm, but pay over $500 for a Blackberry storm.

What's wrong with a contract? If you like a companies service, then you're fine. If they do something unethical like price hikes, that's usually legal grounds to get out of your contract. But hey, let's just email each other instead for a monthly fee. Much different then a contract to say "our device does not have a function unless you pay." Sounds like a life-long contract to me.

The Peek would be a great Messaging device IF it was Smarter and Cheaper. $20 a month is too expensive for an email only device. If it can do Instant Messaging and Surf the Web with Flash. Then $20/mo. is a reasonable rate. But for email only $10 is the most people are probably willing to pay. If you this product to appeal to young kids. Put IM on a Peek. Kids would chat on this endlessly as a cheap alternative to texting.

Yes, contracts suck. If you don't like them then don't get one and buy the phone at full price. It'll be far more expensive, but those phones (ie. BB) are a lot better than what Peek offers.

This was stupid. The reason that phone companies (all phone companies) make you enter a contract is because they subsidize the actual cost of the phone to make it cheaper for the consumer to purchase. Through the life of the contract the company makes it's money back. I don't know about these dipshits but I prefer my wireless carrier to stay in business so they can continue to provide me service.
