it's easy for people to watch it on youtube and say 'the singer sucks, it was so much better with layne'. i was at this festival, and they were really good. Yeh its not quite the same, but he is a good singer. Listen to the singers of some other bands live. Also, Layne wasn't the only good member of AIC! the other guys in the band are still there and are still awesome. I really enjoyed their whole set.

I saw them when they played in Sweden at Hultsfredfestivalen. I was also dissapointed in the singer, but hey.. i dont think anyone can replace Layne. I do think that DuValle does a good job and that the band still has fun.

Someone with a creepy, haunting quality to their voice, like Layne had. Duvall lacks that evil, sinister vibe necessary for AIC. Also, it would be nice if the singer had a powerful scream. Duvall struggles on any AIC tune that had screamy-vocals in it. When Duvall screams, he sounds like he's dying of constipation.

Layne was an awesome singer but his demons brought the band down. Drug addiction is an extremely selfish and evil disease. AIC barely even played a live show after 1993 because of it. They had to drag Layne kicking and screaming to contribute on Tripod and Unplugged.

Though this song sounds weird without Layne, AIC had to move on sooner or later.

Everyone saying that Alice shouldn't be touring anymore, and that Will isn't Layne need to stop their crying: No one's saying Will is Layne. I will be the first to agree that the songs were better with Layne at the helm, and that it was his voice that gave them such power and emotion; but Jerry wrote ALMOST ALL the music (INCLUDING LYRICS) that Alice is popular for. It's much more his than Layne's, and he has every right to play again.

Alice was something very special with Layne Staley. He was a fantastic singer (one of the best of all time in my opinion), and a super cool guy; but he decided that drugs were his path, and they did to him what was expected of them. This isn't the bands fault.. if the guys want to play songs that they wrote, all the power to them. Jerry Cantrell is amazing: I wish I could see him with Layne, but this can no longer be a reality, so we make due.

To compare: Layne didn't write the music, he didn't play guitar, and he split lyric duty with Jerry. THAT, is why you can't compare a Nirvana reunion to an Alice one. This is the only way you're going to hear these songs live again. The crowd doesn't seem to mind.
