I'm just a Canadian mutt, part Irish, part English, ...unlike Morrissey, my heart is Irish, and its English blood I have - but i still have massive respect for this song and repentance, shame, and shaking one's head at a tainted thing that should be so great. Its nice to see that there are people who are ashamed of their banner and see their country as something much more - as opposed to people who blindly stand behind it with a complete disregard for it's trespasses.

@Ballyhook I think you need to get your fucking google glasses out mate - Anglo refers to the Angles as in the tribe of Germanic peoples who, along with the Saxons and the Jutes, invaded Britain after the collapse of the Roman Empire and whose language and culture formed much of the basis for English culture. The word England derived from Anglo - Angleland - the land of the Angles. East Anglia effectively means East England. The Anglican church gets its name from being the English Church.

If you don't believe me type 'Anglo' into Wikipedia. It's pretty much fairly common knowledge and you should do some research before spouting your mouth off. Anglo refers to the Angles, the English tribe, who are all of German descent anyway, etc etc. It has nothing to do with being a Protestant - the phrase was coined well before the Reformation.
