Macbeth synthesisers are shit company, they are use arms manufacturers for some components.
Zot engineering and diatron. Not v nice really!!! Good to see a boycott. Although they are v expensive and have no patch memories. Arms companies for parts.........sad bastard he is. It's a musical instrument not a missile.
@leadfarmer13 These chords are just 1/4" mono-plug cables. The M5 is a semi modular analogue synthesizer. That means all the different modules in the synthesizer like sound-generators, amplifiers, filters, envelopes...are hard wired in a logical order. So you can use the M5 like a traditional analog synthesizer without using the patch cables. BUt if you want to connect the modules in another kind of way you can use these little chords. Therefore the modules offer different useful in and outputs.
Perfect for knob heads! If you like playing with big fat Knobs these things have more than a gay porn site! Invest in the price of a car and within mere months you too can be emulating the horrible sound of bag pipes, a Scottish tramp glugging buckfast and the sigh and thud of a Glaswegian smack head shooting up and hitting the floor!
Shame no more of these are going to be made. And the ones that were made are sold out. Ken Macbeth is now making modular modules and M3X synths. There is no mention of M5/N on his own website.
Divorce machine indeed. My wife hates me amping up the softsynths with ohmicide, she would run for the hills if i had one of these ! Very nice though.
SICK< SICK< SICK!!!!!!!! This is something Isao Tomita would use to create his music. My jaw just dropped down to the floor, I have never seen such modular in my life. This synth must be more powerful than a Caterpillar bulldozer, I bet you could plow a 100 acre field with this beast, no problem. Well done mate, cheers!
Not really more than a smaller analog synth. It's really a bunch of empty space in that box. The box acts like an acoustic space for that spring reverb.
Wow, even just watching this was an experience. I had never even heard of this synth until I happened upon it on another site, but that is some pretty wicked stuff . . . Thanks for the video.
God damn I wish I 6k to burn on the new M5n, I think analoguehaven still has at least one available---unfortunately I think If I had that kinda dough Id buy all the Dave Smith Instruments: Polyevolver, Prophet 08, and the forthcomming Boom Chick
If one would have the money for it. I have noting against the M5, but i would never burn $4000 for it, cause i think that it is simply too much for a bunch of non-polyphonic Synth containing standard ICs/Transistors/whatever. Even a GX-1 is no guarantee for a good production if one can't handle it. To me, to be honest, sounds the M5 like a Pulse, but with the price of approx. 1/10.
there are rather extreme feature on the Macbeth: Im of the understaning there are things like a switch that allows for standard ADSR times, or a flick of the switch well mack the envelopes go into like ranges of "minutes" instead of seconds. by "the Pulse" Im assuming you mean WALDORF-- iI personally am the hugest Waldorf fan.. I basically have everything theyve made in some fashion or another... but saying the M5 is like the PULSE is like me saying the Microwave XT is like an Emu Audity 2000
Sorry, but if you stood in front of an M5 you wouldn't say that. I tried one out and it's one of the best analogue synths I've ever tried (and if you check my videos, you'll see I have used and own a few) and I'm working out what to sell to get one!
It is extremely well put together and designed.
Give 2 designers the same tools and standard ICs/Transistors/whatever, and one will produce something ok. The other will create something exceptional.
Electrical circuits can be modeled in software to some extent. But I doubt you can duplicate the complex interactions of a bunch of modules completely.
Well, for one you can't really touch a softsynth like you can all other musical instruments. AND the sound quality of softsynths still has nowhere near the power of real analog, clearly. Softsynths have their place, but not as replacements for analog :-)
If you play one of the true analog monsters for a while you will understand.
Okay. I understand that there could be difficulties in emulating a particular synth just like that, and that some people won't accept that software synths are taking over, and blame the fact that the emulation isn't perfect on that - But apart from emulation, I really don't see how a software synth cannot do the same stuff as an analog synth can, if you accept that that nyquist sampling theorem is valid, which it is.
hey jerk... I meant you cant physically TOUCH software which is why analog is better.. you should read the comments in context before commenting yourself.
there is no doubt the M5 eats other synths for breakfast...and leave it to Dan to destroy every piece of gear around him with it! Holy hell, that gave me enough GAS to last a decade! Thank you Dan, and thank you Ken!!!!!!
