i saw him this summer and he is just like me,i'm slowin'down.not so many rapid licks anymore and i went on line to find some info.it appears he has some trouble playing the early stuff because it causes wrist problems.i can't only imagine playing the strings this hard for so many years.my guitar hero.
Saw him at Philadelphia Spectrum in '75. He was one of the opening acts for Linda Rondstedt (I did actually go to see him). Previously had only heard him on tapes. I was blown away. Saw him again in Cleveland around '84 at the old Agora. He could still blow people away with the sound he generated picking that 12 string.
Kottke is one of those involuted virtuosos whose ability to play is paramount. his taste in music is just that, his taste. but as a player: has anyone ever heard anyone who can match him? saw him in late 70s in Ann Arbor. close your eyes and you would swear two or three players were on the stage.
HOT DAMN HE IS FLIPPIN' GOOD!!!!!! Rmember seeing him at Alice Tully Hall, in NYC, when he opened for John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Now THAT'S dichotomy for ya!!!!!!
What a f'in genius. He really is probably one of the best finger style guitarist out there. I'm gonna see his in three weeks for the annual Thanksgiving show at the Minneapolis State Theatre. Always an awesome concert.

Probably around the time he 'came out.' Apparently he and Elton and Freddie Mercury had quite the torrid triad for awhile; then he got passed over to Lou Reed...
I am a huge Kottke fan, but I really can't support this comment. I would suggest that both Les Paul and Chet Atkins have had more influence in the world of guitar musicianship than Leo.
I used to always listen to "Morning is The Long Way Home" back in the 70's (from what I actually remember of the 70's! Pretty hazy days back then!). It's great to see Leo Kottke videos being posted and appreciated here on youtube. The man is a true talent.

fave comment from one of his album covers:
"Leo probably made as many people put down the guitar out of shame as he inspired to pick it up"!

Kottkee is a fag?
Whatever.
He is a talent to be remembered. For a long time to come.
Thanks for this post, even though the Bass was a bit much.

I've had the pleasure of seeing him live - Truly one of the greatest musicians on Earth... He also has a wicked sense of humour.

I took a girl to see Leo Kotke in Park City in what would have been around 1978-79. She was bored--that was it for her.
