Thank you for posting. Mark Knopfler is amazing. With Remembrance day coming, please check out my video 'Soldier Boy' (search Stu Aspinall). I wrote the song after being inspired by the story of a young soldier who suffered from PTSD before finally giving in to the disorder. I am donating proceeds from every itunes or cdbaby.com download of my song to support programs that help soldiers and their families try and deal with PTSD. Thanks for the support & to soldiers everywhere!! Lest we Forget!
If there's one man who knows how to translate words/feelings in a guitar/voice its... MARK!! And YES he also surely will be remembered!! for many many years.
Not only is Mark a great singer/songwriter/guitarist, he is also extremely good at arranging music. He makes songs like this one sound totally unique.
This song is sooooo ENGLISH. All the things he talks about are very English from folk traditions to playing cricket, the landscape with the local church and vicar.
@nacho1560 I do realize that he was born in Scotland. But like another favorite musician, Ian Anderson, he moved to England as a young boy and writes songs about both England and Scotland. Mark has written a lot of songs about the town in which he grew up, Newcastle (many Geordie references). This particular song references many things that are English and not Scottish, just as many other songs on the album talk about Scottish and not English subjects.
@davitt77 You've got to agree though he's becoming soul sticken towards his roots. Piper to the End, Before Gas and TV, Far From the Clyde, etc. are Scottish based.
Watched a Dunkirk remembrance video where an officer returned wounded to England and saw a game of cricket going on as he past. He saw it as returning from hell to heaven. Wondered if that inspired Mark.
I understand what you're saying. I'm an amateur musician and wouldn't like my stuff posted here. I must say that if I didn't already own this album, however, listening to this (and other similar videos) make me want to buy the music. And I do.
His compositions are just insane. I love the way he twines rythmics and soli. I love his melodies. Always close to flip over and fall in the ditch but keeping the balance on a razor thin edge.
So powerfull yet so nuanced.
I loved it !
All this doesn't minor MK's huge talent. That's just an other way. Both are enjoyable and I'm greatful to both masters.
The chorus is lovely. The band member's children are the back vocals: (Knopfler, Cummings, Fletcher,...) Would you imagine Ben Knopfler and his twin brother singing on Calling Elvis or Heavy fuel? haha Amazing...
Los coros son muy bonitos. Lo forman los hijos de la banda..Im-presionante..
there are alot of guitarist that do that, or at least were.... But yes He is awesome! I had the good fortune of seeing him live a few times from front row.
@JJFrancio6314 He's completely unique for me. He's over 60 now and still producing brilliant, original work when most of his peers haven't written anything decent for 30 years. For me he can paint a picture like no other musician. An amazing man.
Great Music

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Do you own this content? If I try to post an original video with this music as a soundtrack , it is removed.

It actually reminds me of Dire Straits' last album "On Every Street" which had quite a folky sound to it. A much underated album in my opinion.
